    There are a few details I think were not mentioned or at least not entirely understandable.
    13:32 executive exchange of chemicals: not mentioned now or later, the new chemical (the one that you gain by the exchange) is not stored in your lab, but instantly used so you do not need the matching color storage spot.
    23:13. It is mentioned that the first round is an exception for placement but the exception itself was not explained. The exception is, on the first round, only the black placement spots are available (the middle one and the right one) in each area so the leftmost, white "combo spots" are not. On top of that, the first placement during the first round in each area must go in the middle spot and not the right most spot. A later player may use the rightmost spot but it also means that at most two players may go to the same area in the first round.
    45:02: It is mentioned that each machine part for the experiment action must come from one line on the player's lab. But there is a rule not mentioned: each machine part on that line must be discarded, not only the ones you use. So if there is an unused, excess not matching (let's say white) cogwheel on the line, that extra white cogweheel must be discarded without getting point for it. Although this is a penalty for a disorganized, overcrowded houskeep, it happens rarely because you can always evacuate the excess cogwheels (or swap with bots) if you have free space on other lines.

    Very excited for new EG games and for you guys, you're great! Also, I'll point out that while there is a Nobel Prize for peace, it's more likely that you'd be getting the Nobel Prize for Chemistry or Physics.

    I still liked it better when you took the player pieces, shook them up in your hands and said "OK worst to first" and dropped one out at a time. I adopted that method for games with random turn order.

    At 2:14:20 when Derek takes his turn he uses his subsidy tile to take an action which gives him the snow research token. Then uses the the snow research token immediately in his row to publish a paper. I'm looking for clarity on whether or not this was a mis-sequence. Are you able to assign research tokens you get on your turn at any time, or only at step 4 of the player turn.

    • @texascpa
      @texascpa 2 роки тому

      You only place it in Step 4 unless you get a gray one from participating in the lab experiments during Phase B. Those get placed immediately.

    • @classikdan7124
      @classikdan7124 2 роки тому

      Yes, I believe that is indeed a mistake. The research tokens are placed during step 4 of a turn, unless they are aquired during Phase B when the weather machine is run.

  • @mastersrybnik
    @mastersrybnik 2 роки тому

    So many mistakes were made due to taking shortcuts. A number of times the moving of the person tokens on the lanes were missed when doing the 1st pre step (cashing the black tokens) is insane.
    It was a pleasure to watch thanks guys.

    At the game end all three experiments will run (if there are bots, instead of only running the current one like you guys did).

    I am watching this now because this might be our next game at the table on our regular game night, but oh man I am shocked at how complex this is. I have played a few Lacerda's and have Kanban EV, The Gallerist and Escape Plan in my collection. But here I see seasoned veterans at heavy games constantly forgetting actions, back tracking etc. I don't blame them, it's hard and certainly when managing a live stream as well, but it makes me nervous and afraid for my upcoming play. I might be wrong and I don't wanna judge having never played the game, but there is so much rules overhead it seems like it needed some extra polish or an extra round of development. Maybe I will change my mind after actually playing this one. I think this will be the first Lacerda game out of my league in terms of complexity.

      Ultimately did your group try it? I'm coming back to you comment because I was actually in the same spot last week and thought I would have a way harder time to understand all the actions and the interactions, + tying all that with careful planning. I too thought I'd reached my limit.
      We played it yesterday for the first time with friends, and it is truly easier with the board in person. I spent a lot of time trying to learn the rules with videos, but it really became clear, with the thing, in front of me; The teach took 45 minutes and really gave me the time to get the symbology and understand how everything clicks together, though it feels a bit less cohesive than On Mars. Afterwards, it's a matter of pulling a lever and understanding how everything moves and evolves in reaction to it. First few turns are a bit long because you're figuring out where to go, last few turns are long because you want to be sure you processed everything well to take the actions you wanted to get the points you wanted. But it's actually as simple as Vital says it is, once actions and symbols on the boards are assimilated: On your turn you place you worker and you take the action. Also, it ended up being quite a short game (2h30 at 3 (experienced) players), it even dragged a little bit because of AP, but never because of rules clarity. We referred to the rulebook maybe once or twice, because the player-aid is quite thorough and well made. For that first game, my real limit was hit with the objective tiles, and I think we should have gone over those before we played the game, (even though it would have made the teach a bit longer) because I made stupid misreadings that led me to lose the game, but that would be dealt with on a following game. It was a bit the same with Concordia (the first time I played, discovering contemporary boardgames) with how disconnected in the beginning the scoring feels on your first play.
      Interestingly enough, its heaviness rating is lower than On Mars, though I find On Mars to be actually quite clear and lean, in comparison to Weather Machine. You do end up taking less actions overall in Weather Machine, but the number of consequences to one actions are sometimes a lot to parse at first glance. Anyway I'm really looking forward to play it again, because as with On Mars, once the thing is assimilated, it is a loooot of fun.

      Try checking "Before You Play". Their channel completed, IMO, a much comprehensive, condensed (as much as possible) and thougtful run through of all Lacerda's major designs including Weather Machine (not Man btw). They gave their inputs as to where it places among Vital's 7 preceding titles. Consideing the amount of experience they had for Vital's games, they kind of nailed the nooks and crannies of this game.

    Lovely playthrough. One thing I found super irritating regarding iconography is the colored machine parts in the weather machine/lab. What’s the point? All you ever do there is place a bot, spend a chemical and get rewarded later when the machine runs. But what is the significance of the colored machine parts in all those spots? I get why the same they matter in R&D (since you need to spend parts of THAT color for breakthroughs) but I don’t understand why machine parts are also depicted in the weather machine spots itself? What am I missing?

    • @mechasduo004
      @mechasduo004 3 роки тому

      Consistency with the art/look of the game and "at a glance" viewing the color of the required chemical for people around the table who dont want to telegraph what they're planning.

      It’s a way to say you are upset with what happened while staying family friendly. So if someone just took the spot you were going to go to and ruined your plans, you could say “glory to rome” instead of 🤬.
      In a more literal sense, glory to rome is a way to tell someone to go fornicate with yourself.
