I love it. Her voice is like cold electricity, I can't explain it, but it's just so piercing. Her "Touch me" from when she's singing 'Memory' always does that to me too.
Ah! I absolutely love her voice. I've had singers I adored before but never someone's voice I wanted to steal as much as Betty Buckley's. Her control is absolutely freaking amazing. Every time I listen to her singing this, it makes me realise just how far I have yet to go since my performance in this show at my high school. It is very inspiring though. :)
Okay. 1986. Me and my pal, saw Drood and then second acted many times to hear and see Betty rock it! 😍This gives me life! #theultimatebuild #freakout 💯✌❤
one of the most exciting "betty" performances for sure! i got to see her sing this live in Drood and we "second acted" it more than a few times! LOL LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!!!
That you for exposing me to awesome broadway songs that i TOTALLY would NEVER have listened to. You should do some kind of segment like great songs you've probably never heard, i dont know.
WOWEE WOW WOW! That is incredible! Seth, I used to listen to you on your tv/radio (?) station...when I had tv! =o) Thanks for broadening my broadway experience!
It was called "Don't Quit While You're Ahead." The video is here on youtube somewhere. Always loved that they made a video of it. Quite humorous, whereas the "murder victim" in the video is none other than Rupert Holmes, the composer of Edwin Drood. Sadly, George Rose was murdered shortly after that was filmed if I recall.
Who is this Rupert Holmes? Writer of pop songs like "Escape" by day and writer of this amazing, sophisticated song by night. Does he have a split personality or what this is just incredible music. Sadly the singer in this production, George Rose, was savagely tortured and murdered in the Dominican Republic
FineGuyUK: YOU'RE depressed? I was supposed to meet Betty after her last show at Six Flags but didn't go for reasons I can't say here. Took six months to set it up, then I blew it. She was only 17. I was too ashamed of myself to try again. That night remains the biggest regret of my life to this day, the top thing I wish I could do over. I don't remember who set us up by I remember asking, "She's seen me and still wants to go out?" Wasn't too self-confident, I guess. :)
You apparently dont know Betty played on Broadway 8 years prior to EIE and sang a glorious rendition of "He Plays The Violin" in the show "1776." Already a great voice and actor by the time she was cast as "Abby" Bradford.
It’s very easy to hear her without ranting. The song is available on CD and on Spotify. If you want to hear my ranting, you can go to her social media accounts where she has posted the video of me ranting about her. It’s so great to have options!

So amazing...Buckley is one of the fiercest Broadway divas ever.

i am so glad he did a segment on her and this song particularly. this is simply brilliant in every way he described.

This guy is HYSTERICAL !!! He is EXACTLY like JACK on WILL&GRACE when he is 'teaching' his 'acting class'
Seth Rudetsky casually being the best, most passionate music appreciation teacher ever… I love listening to him speak about music.
thank you so much
Simply amazing~
I couldn't agree more, Seth!!
You and Betty are a winning combination......

What song from Drood was in heavy rotation on VH-1 back in the 1980s? Seemed like they played it once an hour.
WOW! I just voided! In a good way!

i heard you kind of deconstruct this on your sirius show... i like this version better!

Who would've thunk the step mom from 8 is Enough could sing like that. LOL Thanks for the video.
She did sing once on the show in an episode titled "Who's on First." You can find it on Dailymotion.com.
Its s sweet little lullaby she wrote the lyrics to.

In case you're curious as to what my own personal circle of hell is, it's having this video cut out at 4:45...which is currently happening to me.
How nice it would have been to her her voice without his constant ranting messing up the audio!
