He's such a friendly looking Cthulhu, waving "hello" and everything.
Lol. My 4 year old plays with this and the Star Spawn, calls them daddy and baby monsters and they play with her dolls
This is still my fav. Video of painting from this game. I like using the Contrasts when and where I can to get things out fast. You’ve shown how great they can be used and combined w/ regular techniques. Also Grimoire Purple has become one of my fav. Purples thanks to you!!
Oh that’s ace. Thanks for dropping the comment man!
I saw your work on the Nemesis minis and I think it is amazing, your attention to detail is impressive. Keep the great work
Thanks man. Appreciate the comment!!
Looks unreal!
I’m thiiiiiiiiiis close to just buying the full contrast range.
I keep having to buy a new one every week :-D I must nearly have the whole set by now
Really nice work, going to have to look into this one. The minis alone are insane!
I've found some primers the contrast paint doesn't stick to as well like glossy ones but works great with the vallejo sprays
Oooh! Thanks for the heads up :)
I'm torn over what to do with the bases, myself! I was toying with the idea of some dark, corrupted stone floor for the bad guys, and maybe simple stone tiles for the heroes? It feels somehow wrong to just give these minis the traditional black base.
Great video, though! I can't wait to see how you do more of these DMD minis!
I’m with you, I really wanted to do a fancy base but I like my minis to match the game and I’m not sure how to achieve that currently :-( maybe after a few games I’ll have a feel for it :-)
Fetid water?
I would ether go for a base that matches the gameboard (floor tiles maybe?) or an abstract approach (galaxy like or an elder / ritual sign on the base). Definitely not the usal sand and grass base. But it would heavily depend on the amount of bases and the given space. Rebasing for a boardgame is always a little to much, at least for me.
this almost unknown game has amazing sculptured mini .. no doubt this game will be a classic for collectors.
Yeah there’s loads of great minis in this gsme
This game is very well known. It's on a lot of online reviewer's top 10 lists and sits comfortably just outside the top 100 games of all time on BGG. CMON is also a very well known company with some hugely popular games. I do agree on the amazing sculpts though :)
Will you do a video like this with other miniatures from this game?
That’s the plan! Tends to depend on if the video is popular enough or supporters on patreon ask me to do them :-) but my plan is to do a fair few - time permitting.
@@WatchItPaintIt Do you have access to the "Megathulu" that 3ft+ tall statue
Justin Lincoln sadly not :D
@@WatchItPaintIt Dang! I have it and really need to figure out my painting plan XD
i really love your way to paint them . the star spawn is really one of my favorite mini of this game with the black goat of the woods. i hope you will do a video on this one .
Using this guide, to do mine now, i primed with army painters necrotic flesh on the body and skeleton bone on the wings. Hopefully it turns out as good (or nearly as good) as yours. Ill be using army painter washes rather than the contrast paints, again I hope that doesn't mess things up.
Awesome! Tag us in on Instagram if you can. Would love to see when you’re done! Happy painting!!!
Georgous as always!!
Thank you!
Really looking forward to this series!
Me too! I want to paint more already
@@WatchItPaintIt so have you painted more?
Yep, there’s two other videos on the channel and I’ll do some more when I have time
@@WatchItPaintIt I haven't found them yet
I ordered this game from amazon and wasnt planning to waste my time painting it until I watched this video! Now in definitely painting the miniatures! I've never painted game miniatures before, anyone have any tips or links for good supplies?
Yay. Glad it made you want to paint! I have links in my videos normally for where and what I buy and they are often affiliate links that support the channel. We have a discord channel (but requires a minimum $1 patreon pledge for lifetime access) with loads of painters who can help all day every day :-)
The color on the card look a little bit more yellow in the skin highlights to me. Not sure if it would have been worth it to add some yellow to the contrast paint when putting it on to get closer. Still looks good. The bigger-than-a-baby version only took about 3 hours for me to finish when it came in, so don't knock the really big minis. They're fun with an airbrush and some creativity. It now haunts my closet.
Nice! That’s very fast! But I guess the airbrush helps with speed. Think you’re right. A a splash of yellow or maybe a light dry brush would make it look sweet!
Wow. Probably some of your best work. They look awesome. Gonna apply that to zombicide aliens. The base was disappointing. Felt you could have done more.
Thanks man! Very little effort too! Definitely could do the base better. But I’m at a loss for how to do them, doing them black doesn’t cost very much and I can easily change them in the future. Would be sad to delay the video weeks while I think of how to do them! :-)
So is primer needed to use contrast paints? I have no experience but want to start learning, i have plenty of unpainted mini games lol. Love the look the contrast paint achieves though.
Yep! I’d say the primer is kore necessary with contrast that normal painting. You don’t *have* to use the contrast primers - any light colour will work but I use the contrast primers as they are good and only cost a little more
I don't have those new contrast paints. I've heard mixed things about them, but I'm a novice painter and don't have a load of time, so maybe I should look into getting them.
I am painting the "jumbo" 500mm tall one from the game - wish I had seen this first. I need a direct line of credit from the bank to pay for all the paint he needs 😁
Oh god, the mold lines. MY EYES!!!!
:-D I have no idea what you’re talking about roll 👀
I've used you color scheme and painting as a guide to my model. I like it a lot. Have you done any more minitures from this game? Thanks.
Glad you liked it! Did you see I streamed done a few more miniatures? The recordings are on UA-cam :-) I’ll also do some more when I have time!
I only have the basic color set from vallejo and some citadel shades. Can you get the same result with those? Like thining the colors down and use them like contrast colors?
Hey Sascha - you CAN use normal paint like contrast paint, but really only if you do a zenithal prime first (See our Nemesis Intruder Speed Paint as an example). If you don't want to do that, then your best bet is to paint the model with your preferred colors, then use a dark wash (preferably brown) over the entire model. Since this model is very textured, you can then do a drybrush over the model with your original colors (maybe add a bit of white to it to get a slightly brighter highlight color). I hope that helps!
@@WatchItPaintIt it does, thanks mate! Actually I am using zenithal priming. ;)
Very Nice word
I love your work and this video. I was planning on fully it pretty close. I did a black and wraithbone prime for this and the skeleton horde has backfired big time. Wondering whether I reprime in wraithbone only, or buy a grey.
This is like Eldritch Art Attack.
If only I was Neil Buchanan :-D
Great work !!! Are you going to paint Hastur? I really hope so!
I’m thinking so, I want to try out the contrast yellow on it! But I’m always worried I’ll ruin things with contrast :-D high risk, high reward
@@WatchItPaintIt I HATE painting yellow usually, but I get all excited when I have a chance to use the Contrast yellow on something. I've got Hastur and his disciples on deck, waiting for me to have an idea how I want to do the more grobbly and tentacle-y parts of Hastur.
i don't have the Pale Flesh because I only have a Citadel Peinture what Can I use ?
This is really nicely done. Great job. Will those contrast paints work with other mediums like Sculpey clay projects?
So did you use a base coat or just painted the "mini" as it came in the box?
Hey - Mike here! Ben forgot to mention it, but he primed the miniature with a white spray primer first. Contrast paints won't go over bare plastic.
[Ben] As Mike said, yep they will have been primed with Wraith Bone primer, a slightly off white primer from citadel. Hope this helps!
Great work! Can you tell me pls where can i find full list of paints you used for it?
Glad you enjoyed it. Sadly I don’t write them down anymore, I show every colour in an overlay during the video. I used to add a list to the description but it was an arduous task that just added to the huge workload of making content. I decided to try and relieve that work by (sadly) making you guys check the video for the list. Sorry :-(
Is the Color Militarum Green you use from Contrast straight from the bottle? Or does it have some other component?
I have the same paint color, but it doesn't have the green tone that I see in your video at all. Mine is darker!
Because I have used some similar colors, but the Constrast Base bought the same.
And the green in Base Contrast is nowhere near the same. 😿😿
______
What color contrast primer did you use? Also did you do any dry brushing after the primer? If so what colors did you use?
Wraith bone primer and no dry brushing
@@WatchItPaintIt awesome! Thanks for the super fast response. I was intimidated about painting my set for this game but your tutorial Is really good and it gives me hope
Nice!! Wish I could buy just this mini!
Anyone selling theirs on eBay?
You can, there's ebay sellers just selling the individual old ones
Wow! I really need to get that game.
Thanks dude. I’ve not played it yet, but I’m hearing it’s really good :-O
Which primer is this?
Any sites where people will paint your minis for you? lol
:-D hehe, I use Scott the Machine in the UK and our very own Austin does commissions in the US now :-)
witch color did you used as primer ???
Citadel’s Wraith Bone
Do I need to put on a primer first before I paint?
Yep! Especially so If you’re using contrast paints
@@WatchItPaintIt thank you!
Is it a miniature because of the size, dude it is a 1/64 of actual monster!!!!!
Loooool :D
