Thank you so much! We had the same issue w our Volvo X90. You were easy to listen to and to the point! Thank you
The first free fix on this darn X3! I’ve had my 2006 X3 for 4 years and assumed a sweaty smelly man lived in it before me, but with the Seattle rain I finally discovered the smell was clogged drains. I don’t think they’ve ever been cleared (sunroof and corresponding drains under the car). A long zip tie did the trick to clear the holes on top and gunk/sludge on the bottom. No more wet floors! Thank you :)
I had a leak and it was the door seal. Them things aren't cheap.
Subbed most logical explanation of such a common issue thanks so much man, would this apply to an X5 as well? I’m having similar issues with my front passenger side getting soaked
Just press hard all around the door panel, that should fix the water seal inside that has detached from sticking to the door frame. I did that when my rear left door on my 5 series was leaking causing the rear floor all wet from rain water. That fixed the issue without taking the panel off.
Was that on one side. I have it front drivers footwell and drivers side rear footwell.
No watermarks on door sill as in video so not sure it’s vapour barrier. Sat in car and hose pipes it no water ingress? Where could it be from?
Thanks so much! Great video. I unclogged the nipples on the front of the car (hoses from the sunroof) but how can I reach the ones in the back?
this was so helpfull & helped solve our mystery wet footwell, panoramic sunroof!...we were clueless!! Thanku
Thank ya sir, any particular glue you reccomend? And what if my door panel on passenger rear is just a little loose do you think that maybe means I need to replace the door panel?
No, just reglue the door panel together, butel tape for the vapor barrier.
Perfect! Thanks! My 2007 x3 is taking in water like titanic did over 100 years ago...
Dude! A++++ for the video!
Yes good advice in video but try this first. On old cars the rubber seal around the glass sunroof can perish slightly allowing water to seep in and collect in the drain basin sitting underneath the perimeter of the sunroof housing.
I had an internal floor saturation problem and brought car to main dealer. All they wanted was to charge me big bucks to have a look. They gave me the impression they had fixed the issue but recently in heavy rain the carpeting became saturated again. I discovered that the front left drainage duct of the sunroof basin was blocked because there was pooling in that corner when the car was parked on a slope in that direction when the leak occurred. Normally the car is parked outside house with slope in direction of right side duct and so it is not usually a problem. The front ducts have a right angle bend and it's difficult to feed a flexy wire into the openings. Having thought about how to clear the blockage an idea came to me to use air pressure to release it. I bought a bicycle tube with a compatible car tube valve and cut the valve off leaving a rubber margin circle of about an inch diameter. I went to the local service station and used the tyre inflator pump to push air through the duct using the compatible bicycle tube valve as a facing against the duct entrance hole to allow air to flow through it. I tested the process by pouring water into the sunroof basin and water flowed down the duct with the evidence of water on the ground underneath the car. This is the best way to ensure these ducts are serviceable and can be done so easily without any significant cost. It's no harm to push air through all 4 corner ducts to avoid potential blockage on an annual basis particularly if prone to debris collection while sunroof open.
I’ve got leaks in footwells drivers side. No sunroof but how can it be vapour barrier. Not wet under door panel. No water marks via sill as he shows. No water marks or wetness above pedals so does that mean it’s not under brake booster bin via wind screen /bonnet
Great vid. So the problem I am having on my 2013 BMW X5 is it gets wet behind the driver side seat on the floor. I had sunroof drains cleared and car was out in the rain after they did it and it was fine. But on the next downpour the rear floor was soaked again. I don’t get the sand like he shows it clean. And the car was parked when it got wet. Could it be rear sunroof drains that separated? Any advice would help thanks.
I really appreciate your insights (and close-ups). Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Please explain how the door vapor barrier deflect water when its about 2-3" from the edge of the door? doesn't the door have holes at the bottom of the door? Does the water travel within the door card to leak inside? I am having the same issue with my E61 rear passenger floor being wet but can't seem to understand how that vapor barrier has anything to do with it leaking inside?
Yes, it does - It slides down the vapor barrier. On the way to the bottom. If the vapor barrier is not attached some will come inside as the rain travel to the bottom of the door.
@@JohnSmith-oj3uu So then you would see seepage where the door card edge meets the metal door panel. This doesn’t happen and no evidence of water marks yet carpets are wet and so are sides leading to floor. It’s as if water jumps onto the floor.
2001 bmw 740il, getting wet on driver and passenger side any idea how do I fix that?
Thanks! Looks like it's the rear, driver's side sunroof drain for me. I'll have to take care of that after this thunderstorm passes over.
Great video!!
Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
would you have to get a rain gutter?
Great video.
I just discovered on my F10 BMW that the rear carpets are wet just like the way you advertise in your video I'm pretty sure I have to get the seals reglued as you mentioned a lot of videos are saying the same thing my question to you sir is what about the water that's already there should we just dry it out or is there anything that we need to worry about with the existing water that's in the carpets already?
I had the same thing depending on the amount of water you may need to check under the carpet. I had a slight odder, so I pulled up the rug, I found standing water. But the top was dry. X3 has a thick pad on the back of the carpet. Once the water gets past that pad, you will need to dry under the carpet as well. Good thing you can get under the carpet without to much trouble in the rear seat area. On the seal, I used 3m 4200. I hope I do not have to get that panel ever!
** I have not found a place to buy a full carpet set yet for the X3 does anyone?
@@JohnSmith-oj3uu how did you lift the carpet? I have a bmw x5 and I just fixed this door panel. I am having some battery drain and my scanner suggests its in the rear seat that has a fault. I suspect it's because of this flooding so want to know how to remove the carpet and check. Thanks!
How do I remove water that has settle in my 2018 BMW X3. Also stop my passenger carpet from getting wet?
Hey I am The same problem in my 2008 bmw 335i e93 but getting water in my backseat do you know what’s making doing that ?
I have actualy the same problem one week ago i smelling shit in my car. what the hack is this i am checking the back seat carpit and its full whit water holly molly.
I have a diesel engine. There is no way i can look freely at the drains like you do. :(
Did you ever fix?? I think I have the last issue n it's been raining crazy here in Cali which it never does 😔🤣
Bro.....clean yo damn bmw 🤣 great video tho keep it up👍
We were on a 3,500 mile East coast road trip with kiddos. :)
Ahhh I hear that, the struggle is real
Great video help me unclog my nieces 2010 x3
Millertimebmw very informative video. New sub earned👍 thanks
I have had that rear door leak for two years and could not figure out where the rain was getting in. I am going to the garage now to recitfy it. I just changed the thermostat housing (horrible job on a 2007 X3) and have to now fix my shorted out seat heater that tried to ignite my leg. Any ideas on fixing the seat heater elememt?
I think the X3 has some really common issues, leaks and seat heaters are most likely a common issue. And the passenger occupancy sensor too! Good work doing your own repairs though!
Anyone have a video on how to fix that vapor barrier?
I liked your video it was direct and to the point without a lot of fluff.
Thanks for watching, it's at 200,000 miles now!
Thank you for the video
Can you show where the rear drains are? I any find them for the life of me! 😂
Thank you for the video and explanation. It was a pretty easy fix.
Happy to hear!
Hi I have 2008 X3 and I’ve got water coming in to the rear carpets only. But I’ve seen water leaking from the rubber seals around the doors. How do I fix? Do I still have to take off the panels? Or do I go under the car and look for the overflow valves under the car?
Take of dor panels
Thank you very much!
Thank you from Decatur GA!
How to clean the back of sunroof drains
thank you very good video
Hey I have a M54 X3 but the fuel consumption is high. How can I resolve this? And what's the best way to flash the engine if you notice sludge?
I don't drive a x3 but nice shirt ;)
Oppa Wolfgang Danke Opa
I would like to thank you for this video. I woke up Monday morning and there was a puddle of water on the drivers side floor . Again, thank you for the video.
good video . i have a problem with my e46 ,in front of the car ,under the hood,in that space where the batery should be,its empty because the baterry is in the back of the car ,but in that spot i have a lot of dirt and water after it rains . how does the water gets there ????
I had the same problem with my BMW I guess it was clogged for so long that the water started leaking into the battery component
Very good tips! Thanks. I'm having a leak in the back right (drivers side) behind that removable panel where you showed that rear roof drain tubing. I just spent about 2 hours getting to that area and drilling in 3 holes to drain the roughly 2" of water that has accumulated. Is that a rear sunroof drain that's clogged?
It's a 2007 x3 by the way
I wouldn't imagine it not being clogged. Do you have access to use compressed air to blow out the blockage?
Thank you so much, i got a insight about that car. i had same problem, driver seat floor is wet when it rains. i want to know how to open the door fannel to check inside vapor barrier and also want to know which tool need it. please let me know.
I think mine is the door panel. I wouldn't notice but my friend left a jacket on my truck and got wet I hide it from my girlfriend on the back seat and I knew I didn't left the window open
Great video! Thanks for sharing
2014 328d x flooded in passenger rear thanks for vid
VERY INFORMATIVE!!
Thank you!!!
Most likely going to be buying the diy walnut blasting kit for my n54 intake this summer. Located in northeastern pa. Maybe you want to come lend a hand.
Thanks
🙏🏽
great video! i checked the 3 corners I could get to and all were clean (4th obscured by the performance muffler. Q: what about the D-shaped seal between the two glass roof panels? I don't see a BMW part number for it but half of it has dropped below the glass and let some leaves in. I only see this part: 54137127565
- Rear sliding/lifting roof cover gasket. thoughts?
send me the last 7 of your vin please and I'll find it!
My backseat of my 528i is getting wet, I replaced the back window weather seal. The front driver and passenger seat floors are dry but my left passenger behind the driver seat keep getting flooded. please advise.
It sounds like you might hace a vapor barrier seal that needs to be re attached. Check around the door to see if any signs of water getting in or even taking the dorr panel off. Good luck
Cream puff
I got a wet dkoor area on the driver side of my 2004 BMW X5. I didn't see a drain underneath the cabin filter. I saw a drain on the sun roof driver side. Do you have a video on how to clear that drain?
Not at this time for the E53 X5
Man I love BMW! But how in the hell do they get away with selling these cars with these interior leaking problems like this! I'm having the same problem with my 328i!
You're so right.even 19 60s cars don't have such a problem.. it's a big shame..
SUPER MEN
Just got one of these. Thank you!!
Very informative - thank you very much, kept it short and sweet. I have BMW E39 and E38 and they both leak. E39 collects water in the trunk, the E38 in the trunk and the passenger front side - mats were all wet in last rain. Can you tell me where the drains for those cars are? I have not been able to find a video specifically for the E38 and E39 bodies (2000 and 2001 respectively). Thank you very much in advance
It's a problem all over the place with these. Check this link out!

Great video - thanks bud!!
Glad you liked it!
I have a 2008 X5 and there is water at the rear passengers only at 1 side. So I should open that door panel then? Right? Thanks
It would be my first stop.
hello millertimebmw, in my E83, i have water in the driver´s side floor, i´ve cheked the door seal, and the drainer too, i think it is from the windshield seal in the left, cause i can see a bit of water around the fuse spot, any advice?
I have seen the window sealant fail over time, especially if it has been replaced at any point in time. It may be worth asking a "safelite" or other window repair place the cost to "re seal" the winfield and check for rust around the perimeter of the windshield. Good luck!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. My rear door vapor barrier was not sealed all the way, and my rear floor carpet was wet!
Was it difficult to pop open the door cover and fix?
Thank you
Thank you! I like the detail
1:01 THE FUCK is that mirror
Very likely for the trailer.
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
did you remove the carpet to dry and see what wires were shorted or at fault? thanks!
I didn't on this attempt, Shop Vac, Windows Open in the Sun, Then use "Damp Rid" until no more water is collected. Good Luck!
Thanks you so much man!
Thanks men! Big help!
Very informative! Big help. Dude your car looks well lived it!
Cross country road trip with small children. A lot of crumbs and toys!
Where did you get those extensions to the side mirrors? I want them
Here -> amzn.to/2DRz0R9 They worked great, and no vibration while on the highway.
Thank you
Very helpful this. I’ve cleared one sunroof drain and two drains under hood and under front foot wells. My rears are fine. I still have water in front passenger footwell and back left passenger footwell. Any other ideas? Looks like water coming in from under car if that’s even possible?
I have a BMW X3 2009
Great to hear! I just spent the day using some butyl tape to re-do my vapor barriers also!
@@millertimebmw any other areas that affect the foot wells
@@joshuawaldron7110 Pop-off your door panels and check the vapor barrier. It's quite easy to do. Aside from that, you may have a bad windshield seal. and lastly, pour water in your open sunroof to make sure water is making it's way thru. -Z
Nice tip, I have an E53 X5, I'm sure it has something similar, going to check it out.
vmoutsop same here. Did you have any luck?
Thank you!!
What about the water already in the carpet ? Is there a drain that will get that out over time once you seal the vapour barrier?
No, unfortunately not. You will need to let the car air out, vacuum the water out and an ideal situation is to raise the carpet to allow air underneath the carpet to dry out fully ( and not have a mildew smell).
@@millertimebmw Hey great video, I am having a similar problem I have vaccumed out the water that was soaked into the car carpet and air dried it. Could that same water have caused issues with the car starting? My car has had trouble starting since this water was discovered
@@marzuwqbholai178 possibly, what year and model ?
Is there a rear drainage location ?
Watch at 1:13 onward
What kind of glue for vapor barrier ?
