so, first of all thank you for all your testing and everything you've done for this hobby, it helped me (and probably a gazillion other people) with making our builds fly the best. and another quick question, what kinda fpv cam would you recommend for a 690mm hexacopter? (aka money, size, weight doesn't matter)
Bob RE: The range on CrazyBee boards. Solder one a high gain 2.4ghz antenna(one with the copper counterpoise you see on many 5.8ghz antennas) it will double your range at a minimum. Cheers !
For the park patrol, you could make a transmitter that looks like a book that has a screen on it, and wear bifocals that zoom your vision into just the screen embedded the book. Wear an old sweater and some brown slacks, and a grey hair wig. After they make FPV illegal, and cops know what to look for... this'll be necessary, lol.
You probably know that by now, but the Emax charger used for the tinyhawk series can charge 2/3 2s lipo directly though theri balance lead. Works perfekt with a xt30 on the Main power leads :)
Man I use 16ga and xt30 on a 1s build with 0706 15000kv and it's a pretty big improvement as well. The jst or 2mm molex are only good for about 5amps or so and at 10 amps or higher they really start to limit the power delivery. These motors can pull upwards of 4-5 amps a piece on full throttle even on 1s. Something I would recommend to try is the king kong 48mm tri and quad blade props the 48mm tri is by far my favorite prop they have much better recovery and control than bi-blades. I have yet to find a 1s battery that can deliver what this setup needs the gnb 450 is the best I've tried but, they get pretty warm and have quite a bit of voltage sag. Hobbyking has some nano techs with a high c rating but 600mah seems like the best option in those, they are the only 1s battery I've ever seen with an xt30 though so if that's anything to go off they're probably pretty decent. I was sad to see the toothpick frame doesn't support the 6.5mm bolt pattern of the 0706 motors those are my favorite for 1s builds. Looks like I'm sticking with the bat-100 frames it's a shame I could have saved a gram or two using an all in one board and got below 40 grams all up.
Hi, just run 2xXT30.. the difference is about 2.5g. I swap the connector of the no wire ph2 batteries (GNB 260) and glue the connector with epoxy directly to lipo). Then i just have 6 ph2 to XT30 reductions on my happy model charger. Each cell is charged individually. Works great on my Mobula 7!
The problem with the 2S charger you showed (which I own), is that it does not charge HV LiPos to 4.35V, but only to 4.25. I'm not even sure it goes to 4.25V, as it says charging is complete when the display still shows 4.20V!
Don't ever charge anything to 4.35v unless you're okay with the battery only lasting about a dozen cycles before it's performance tanks. Lihv is a scam
@@Kabab Ok... But I was really just addressing the fact that it's advertised as charging to 4.35V (for those who wish to do so), but it doesn't do it. :)

Hey! thank you for sharing. I just went to take a look and they seem really interesting. 1.5mm shaft and two KVs are available, 7100 and 11900....weird numbers, maybe actual measured values? They are even a bit less expensive than the replacement motors for a Mobula 7.
@@yannickg6904 Not that I know of, dude... I hope some will show up soon. About Racerstars motors, don't do that, they're horrible! 😕 For my 2.5" build I bought the SunnySky 1106 5500kv (to run with 3s batteries). And, dude... They are amazing!!!
@@MCsCreations Are they really that bad? I guess the collaboration with T-Motor did'nt do anything. That's a bummer, I thought they looked really nice. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not surprised that power is being bottle necked by small guage power wire. I'm always curious how people+ expect to get 90 amps out of the battery through 22 or 24 guage wire without losing a bunch of energy to heat.?

Word I’m happy now that I bought the King Kong 90gt which came with 7800kv 1103 is what it came with. lol need new motors tho but it was a monster on 2s when she did fly. I’ve only flown Los with it but can’t wait to get fpv’en soon. Props I’ve used were neon yellow 2in 4blqde. Worked good but newer props out now are way better. My frame limits me to the 1.5 inch but I’d just move the motors out on the arms using only two screws. Snapable on impact tho. Always do the xt30 swap out it’s a must when comes to the power input.
Get goggles any googles box or expensive ones. Made a world of difference for me. I beat the crap out of a rodeo 150 because I was cheap. I missed the whole experience of fpv for a summer. Heres to a whole new experience.
Betafpv 450mah 2s xt30 is pretty much a clone of the GNB so either of them will do. I have the betafpv ones. I will post my toothpick build this week. My FC is on its way :) Thanks kabab!
just make a converter cable from the balance lead to two jst ph connectors (the balance lead can handle the 0.6A from your charger) . you can only charge three lipos at the same time but whatever.
This is great! Can't wait to see what is coming next from this design! Any chance you can make a video on how to transform 2 1s batteries into a 2s? Cheers!!
I might but it's really really easy. You can just look up a 2S lipo schematic. Should answer all your questions. Just don't cut the metal tabs on the battery. Desolder them. If you cut them you can no longer solder to them.
hold out a little bit longer. Things should be available to purchase by the beginning of next month and the performance has increased drastically from what has been seen so far. I do not even understand how it keeps getting better and better.
Yes 2s is powerful. I have a similar setup on the Bat-100 frame. The motors spun up to full throttle while I was holding the little guy. Long story short, I was cut so badly I needed 4 stitches
what motors are you running? I have been trying to get my bat running for about a year now and i still cant find a good motor for it, especially snice Bob has order all the amax motors now.
I have Bat-100 frames set up on 56mm Ladybird props with (1) 0705 12kv Racestars running 2s (not very efficient, but really fast) (2) 0802 16kv Happymodels on 2s (really efficient & OK fast) (3) 0804 Tachyons on 1s (3min flights on 1s 450mAh & quick enough around people) I think FlexRC also has some super frames for this class of motor/ prop combo.
Nice progress, i saw a similar design a year ago as a happymodel DIY 1S drone. But anyway, it is a step forward! QUESTIONS: Do you think, it is possible to use it as a long range "whoop"/micro? Do you think a proper li-ion could power it? 18650 is probably to heavy, but a high quality cell could handle the drawn current. So a smaller li-ion, which is lighter, but can handle the current might work? Compared to a 1S setup with a ~450mAh Lipo, a 1XXXmAh Li-Ion could enter a new long range hype? I am looking forward to your thoughts :)
I have that 2s charger not bad so far. Only issue with it is when charging the bigger 1s batteries you can only charge 2 at a time because how close they put the plugs in the center it won’t fit. You can solve this by using an extension wire for those plugs buts it’s just annoying for 1s.
So I see your cam recommendation is the us65 one. I was wondering if the trashcan vtx and camera would be a better choice as they can do up to 200mw (I know they are heavier but 25mw just isn't quite powerful enough for me.
Trashcan vtx is fine. It's just a bit heavy. The TBS nano V2 is the best option but expensive. The low cost version is the eachine vtx03 but it's a bit bigger which is the issue. This thing is really little
@@Kabab well looks like the trashcan vtx is 1.5g heavier than the TBS one. I already ordered it so I guess I'll just see how it works out. How about cameras. What do you suggest? I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of weight for a really good picture. The view is King for me!
@@Kabab mount is no problem. I have a 3d printer and moderate fusion 360 skill. This is going to be fun! This is the first time I've been able to justify building a quad rather than just buying one. I'm really enjoying the little guys. Don't get me wrong 80mph in my 5" is great but there's just something about the small ones that I really like. Thanks for all the great info!
I was thinking that maybe you can try using propellors from a toy drone like hs150, there are a lot of 2 inch propellors from toy drones that you can try.
Well then you surely missed the two crashes at the beginning. That same quad is still flying great. Just a minor dent on a motor bell. 1103 is not weak. In fact 1105 is at more risk to break...

I know I ask a lot of questions, but in your opinion, does a separate camera like a Sparrow 2 or similar and separate vtx make a big enough difference on something small like the toothpick to justify the price rather than a simple aio camera? What about something in between like a small, cheap camera like the Caxxax eos 2 found on the trashcan? AKA, what would be your setup provided you had the frame to support it?
U wouldn't say the price is significant enough to matter. It's the physical size and need to me. It'll carry a full size micro just fine but cramming the vtx in there with a separate Rx as well is not gonna be simple and easy.

@@Kabab no worries here, Sir. Was just curious on the ETA. Thank you for the response. So damn excited! :-D
Those gnb 450mah 2s lipos are really good, i used to buy ones with that weird white connector and than just swap the connector with the wires for xt30 because they where so much cheaper (like 5$ for one) but still they are great batts
Have you looked into mounting the split board on the back of the camera to keep it out of the rest of the stack? Might be an option for cramming it all in that frame.
Yeah unfortunately those boards are enormous compared to the rest of the quad 😅
That was kinda my plan. High kv 1103 on 1s. Then later as I get the new batteries, scale up to 2s xt30.
Excited.
JST connectors have thicker, longer pins and handle 3A+, they don't heat up at all on 2s, get rid of the resistance without adding so much weight.
I've tested many connectors since this video. JST is not suitable for this application. Most of them are rated to just 5A or below.
I hope you work out a design for the split or turtle. I have retro fitted 4 quads so far with the turtle V2 and I can't imagine building anything without HD.
the racerstar prop was not only out of balance , they were drilled off centre lol
1103 and up needs xt30 no matter what , even a mild build can pull 10+ amps easily.i wish we had something in between like an xt15
The King Kong props aren't perfect but they're alright. Still waiting on gemfan to fix up a prop variant for me.
I'm already enjoying 0802 12kkv on day one - yes xt30 and direct solder motors with racewire. Thanks for this awesome project it is so fun. One thing I found is the racewire does give a little flat spot for the rubberband battery mount. Oh and crossfire nano RX is highly suggested
10:49 - how to charge 2S batteries in the field - I'm working on it, I've ordered those isolated DC-DC transformers from China to modify one of those six 1S chargers to be able to charge 2S packs (and document how). But it's Chinese New Year so it's weeks of wait for the parts :(
Was that the park police that booted you out of there?
Yeah. Annoying state park patrol
@@Kabab wtf. The park was totally empty. Yeesh
bravo!!! thank you for being here and doing this!
so, first of all thank you for all your testing and everything you've done for this hobby, it helped me (and probably a gazillion other people) with making our builds fly the best.
and another quick question, what kinda fpv cam would you recommend for a 690mm hexacopter? (aka money, size, weight doesn't matter)
Micro Eagle is the best cam by far Imo. By farrrrrr
Bob RE: The range on CrazyBee boards. Solder one a high gain 2.4ghz antenna(one with the copper counterpoise you see on many 5.8ghz antennas) it will double your range at a minimum. Cheers !
Yeah that's what I have listed on my build log for the frame but it's still not that great unfortunately
😮 I had no idea at all.
WOW! This is the futur of fpv quad
Got mine ordered, this thing looks awesome, cant wait till I get it built
So just to get things straight do you just take the motor connectors off the FC and then solder the motors on?
Correct
I'm so excited! I dunt mind waiting until after the holiday though.
for vibrations, best is 4 holes for motors. 2 and 3 holes more noise.
Because you have no wire and no ballance lead on the lipo the weight might be even less.
Can't wait to get my parts and start building!
Dude... Please, don't discontinue the 1s frame! I couldn't buy it yet (my houses aren't rent(?) yet, so I'm only spending and receiving nothing right now)... And I want one! 😃
BTW, just found a 0804 from 3BHobby (former BBB) on Banggood!
Hey! thank you for sharing. I just went to take a look and they seem really interesting. 1.5mm shaft and two KVs are available, 7100 and 11900....weird numbers, maybe actual measured values? They are even a bit less expensive than the replacement motors for a Mobula 7.
@@yannickg6904 Exactly! 😃
I found the numbers odd too, but... They look nice anyway. 😊
@@MCsCreations I was planning to order the 8pcs Racerstar RT11 bundle for my 2.5", I guess I'll add those as well. Any reviews out yet?
@@yannickg6904 Not that I know of, dude... I hope some will show up soon.
About Racerstars motors, don't do that, they're horrible! 😕
For my 2.5" build I bought the SunnySky 1106 5500kv (to run with 3s batteries). And, dude... They are amazing!!!
@@MCsCreations Are they really that bad? I guess the collaboration with T-Motor did'nt do anything. That's a bummer, I thought they looked really nice. Thanks for the heads up.
Sunnyskys have always been a solid choice from personnal experience, I might also give the larger Amax Innos a try. European reviewers often use them as references when testing other brands.
Dude I just can`t wait when I put my hands on this frame, already got all the electronics and AMAX motors !! I`ll go crazy if I won`t get it soon, .... :)

keep up good job
The next batch is coming once china gets back to service.
@@Kabab Ahh yeah , Chinese New Year , forgot about that,... Sorry , no more pressure ;)
I tried the rotorx rx 2535 two bladed props on the toothpick and they are awesome very smooth and also very quit... 😁👍
Thank you for all your work on micros. This is a very exciting area of quads that can fly almost anywhere and do it well. Thank you again
I'm not surprised that power is being bottle necked by small guage power wire. I'm always curious how people+ expect to get 90 amps out of the battery through 22 or 24 guage wire without losing a bunch of energy to heat.?
As always a great and interesting update. Liked the music on the full flight video. Can you tell already when you will have more stuff available in your store? Cancelled my trashcan pre-order on banggood. Going to buy all the stuff you sell (and the missing parts from banggood then) soonish!
You took my recommendation to put the HD cam on the toothpick on Instagram finally!!! :)))))))))
Hey man awesome work! I would love to try this build with a naked gopro hero5 session which only weighs 20grams.
Yeah that would be incredible! But not sustainable in a crash :-/
Love that floss on that power line ❤️
just make a converter cable from the balance lead to two jst ph connectors (the balance lead can handle the 0.6A from your charger) .
you can only charge three lipos at the same time but whatever.
I cannot for the reasons I stated in the video in the charging segment.
barrel connectors on your homemade 2s.
so you can disconnect them & charge individual cells
Yep
This is great! Can't wait to see what is coming next from this design! Any chance you can make a video on how to transform 2 1s batteries into a 2s? Cheers!!
I might but it's really really easy. You can just look up a 2S lipo schematic. Should answer all your questions. Just don't cut the metal tabs on the battery. Desolder them. If you cut them you can no longer solder to them.
I’ve got 1103 15000kv motors running 2s 65mm props. Only get about 3.5 min flight time tho
Just now seeing this vid (thanks UA-cam) and I have to say words can not convay my excitement
Still waiting for your final design...decided to build another 5 inch while I wait
hold out a little bit longer. Things should be available to purchase by the beginning of next month and the performance has increased drastically from what has been seen so far. I do not even understand how it keeps getting better and better.
I truly hope you make this in a bind and fly
Yes 2s is powerful. I have a similar setup on the Bat-100 frame. The motors spun up to full throttle while I was holding the little guy. Long story short, I was cut so badly I needed 4 stitches
Ouch! Sorry to hear
what motors are you running? I have been trying to get my bat running for about a year now and i still cant find a good motor for it, especially snice Bob has order all the amax motors now.
I have Bat-100 frames set up on 56mm Ladybird props with
(1) 0705 12kv Racestars running 2s (not very efficient, but really fast)
(2) 0802 16kv Happymodels on 2s (really efficient & OK fast)
(3) 0804 Tachyons on 1s (3min flights on 1s 450mAh & quick enough around people)
I think FlexRC also has some super frames for this class of motor/ prop combo.
Nice progress, i saw a similar design a year ago as a happymodel DIY 1S drone. But anyway, it is a step forward!
QUESTIONS:
Do you think, it is possible to use it as a long range "whoop"/micro? Do you think a proper li-ion could power it? 18650 is probably to heavy, but a high quality cell could handle the drawn current. So a smaller li-ion, which is lighter, but can handle the current might work? Compared to a 1S setup with a ~450mAh Lipo, a 1XXXmAh Li-Ion could enter a new long range hype?
I am looking forward to your thoughts :)
Interesting idea. Maybe a smaller lithium ion cell so you can run 2S would actually work out since these things are very low amp draw.
When do you estimate you will have a split version? I am interested in one, are you planing on selling a kit ready to build and extra batteries?
Probably 2-3mo is a comfortable estimation. I still work full time
@@Kabab thank you, I will try to save some money
I wonder if a 1.45mm reamer would leave a better hole and preserve the prop balance.
It's possible but I am trying to work on getting the correct props made
@@Kabab well I got 40 of the 1.0mm props so I guess I'll be dealing with vibes for a while:)
It's not a big deal. The vibes are really small. I only realized they were there after I tried a prop with the correct size hole.
@@Kabab cool well I have a drill press and have already 3d printed a jig to hold the prop straight so it should be ok.
I have that 2s charger not bad so far. Only issue with it is when charging the bigger 1s batteries you can only charge 2 at a time because how close they put the plugs in the center it won’t fit. You can solve this by using an extension wire for those plugs buts it’s just annoying for 1s.
Good to hear it works alright. It's literally the only option.
So I see your cam recommendation is the us65 one. I was wondering if the trashcan vtx and camera would be a better choice as they can do up to 200mw (I know they are heavier but 25mw just isn't quite powerful enough for me.
I guess we will find out. I ordered the trashcan vtx. Now I need to decide what camera to use. Any suggestions?
Trashcan vtx is fine. It's just a bit heavy. The TBS nano V2 is the best option but expensive. The low cost version is the eachine vtx03 but it's a bit bigger which is the issue. This thing is really little
@@Kabab well looks like the trashcan vtx is 1.5g heavier than the TBS one. I already ordered it so I guess I'll just see how it works out. How about cameras. What do you suggest? I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of weight for a really good picture. The view is King for me!
@@DoRC if you're running 2s with an XT30 it'll definitely carry a micro cam but it would require a mount be made for it
@@Kabab mount is no problem.
I saw one of these questions below, and it made me think... Would you rather unlimited range or perfect HD video feed? 🤔
Perfect HD 😁
I was thinking that maybe you can try using propellors from a toy drone like hs150, there are a lot of 2 inch propellors from toy drones that you can try.
The ones I'm using are from a toy. Rolling spider.
1105 is my pick over the 1103s delicateness 1103 were also the first naked bottoms that were on the market if I can remember correctly
Well then you surely missed the two crashes at the beginning. That same quad is still flying great. Just a minor dent on a motor bell. 1103 is not weak. In fact 1105 is at more risk to break...
What are you using to drill out the shafts with? I'm using a cutting torch finger drill I got from local tractor supply.i really hope they get them correct because it is the most agravarting thing to do is drill props

Oh and the props , they are basicly bullnose wouldnt be a tipped prop better? I mean Theres still some space to make the prop a lil bit longer
yep but this prop works so darn well why bother trying to improve. More likely it'll get worse than better
Dig the lil top plate, baby floss :) color standoffs will look cool. Can't wait. I like the look of the triblades, curious if they will improve and manufacturer them? I know I ask a lot of questions, but in your opinion, does a separate camera like a Sparrow 2 or similar and separate vtx make a big enough difference on something small like the toothpick to justify the price rather than a simple aio camera? What about something in between like a small, cheap camera like the Caxxax eos 2 found on the trashcan? AKA, what would be your setup provided you had the frame to support it?
U wouldn't say the price is significant enough to matter. It's the physical size and need to me. It'll carry a full size micro just fine but cramming the vtx in there with a separate Rx as well is not gonna be simple and easy.
if you want to get that Charger quick ... TBS got it in they Store ;)
BNF toothpick please!
In time when I get some time to develop that chain
Hi! First of all thanks for this sweet video! I've designed my own 5inch frame, 3d printed it and tested it. It works really well and I want to make a carbon version of it. Could you tell me where you get your frames cut(and the average cost, maybe)?
Thank you very much!
I have a manufacturer that cuts it for me. I use multiple. There are many. Not hard to find.
When will I need to get my order in by to ensure I get in on the next batch of frames?
I'm getting a LOT this next batch so it should be no issue
I know the 1s toothpick days have past but I just made my first 1s toothpick build and I love it. I'm wondering if you know what's the current most powerful 1s motor. Currently using the 9000kv happymodel 1102 because I had some lying around but I'm curious about the 13500 kv version. You think that would work well on 1s? Thanks.
Around 11000-12000kv seems to be optimal for 1s
