    I just got a job as the Security Systems Specialist at Pfizer NY. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. Good to know I'm not alone in all this.

    I don't think anyone really doesn't want to switch to OSDP but upgrading isn't that simple in most cases. It's super simple to say upgrade....but another thing to do it in practice. If someone pays $$$$ for it I can upgrade all day lol.
    1. Cost of switching out working hardware for brand new hardware.
    2. ACS capabilities with OSDP. If your ACS doesn't support it at the moment (but they are working towards it) do you do a full sale swap of everything??? Not cost effective if you need to do this on a big scale.
    3. OSDP is only one part of the puzzle. Having layered security approach is the best option. So I can trigger alarms off of scans that don't match up with your actual movements.

    [question] how would one (if he wants implement HID) for home use do it?
    I would need:
    1. HID reader / keypad (x amount)
    2. HID Access Controller (for at last two readers)
    3. ... ??
    4. everything controlling over home server / internet / phone
    Is that feasible?

    • @theinsidetrack
      @theinsidetrack  3 роки тому

      yes, it is feasible but with commercial grade access control products it may be a bit of overkill. You are probably better off with something like an August Smart Lock or some of Apple's new Home Kit capable devices.

    With all the benefits of OSDP at the moment it seems like it's just sales and marketing by HID.
    I guess many would prefer that there are competing brands that offer OSDP enabled readers and panels.
    Because it's security that doesn't mean that their aren't price limits.
    Business decisions are not solely based on security.
    However, I notice that physical access/security isn't stressed much and that's the first layer!

    • @theinsidetrack
      @theinsidetrack  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed. However, at this point in time the price of a panel and read that support OSDP is the same as Wiegand, so price really shouldn't be a factor any more.

      What brand names that are available currently?
      I would appreciate a list.
      I'm looking to price panels for after your videos on OSDP, I'm all in for that communication 'technology'.
      It reminds of ONVIF for interoperability regardless of manufacture/brand.
      Actually, I don't know of any part of Access Control that is standardized - which is a good move!
      In Structured Cabling/Wiring everything is standardized!
      A layered approach to Access Control is the future to achieve what what the OSI Reference Model offers to Ethernet data communications.

    How do you properly identify yourself on an enterprise level only using mobile? You will still need a visual ID badge to show you belong, otherwise you can have people walk around acting like they belong when really they don't. Many times piggybacking or trailgate into facility if they look like they belong. HID Mobile creds has its place but I don't think it can be used in a large company or multi-tenant buildings where you need to see the visual of someone's badge around their neck visually showing you at a glance that they belong.

    Hi Phil, why or do I need to upgrade my license to download the latest greatest SC 10?

    • @theinsidetrack
      @theinsidetrack  3 роки тому

      So long as everything is working as intended you don’t HAVE to upgrade. But if you’re paying for Genetec Advantage and you can upgrade then I think you should. At least to 5.9.

      @theinsidetrack  Місяць тому

      OSDP is a new wiring standard for access control and allows for secure communications and less wires

    Why is the security industry way behind technology ?

  • @williammcfarlane6153
    @williammcfarlane6153 3 роки тому +1

    The knee-jerk I have with using cell phones for Access Control badging is how many people screw up their phones and if an app isn't working then it becomes an ITS administrative overhead...

    • @theinsidetrack

      That's a great point and something that should be considered for sure! Just like any other security program, training is the key component (no pun intended). Physical cards or fobs could be used as a back-up plan for those unable or incapable.

    Don't buy ProxCards but did not explain why? I'm new in this business and all I buy is Prox, no clue why he said that tid bit comment with no explanation only lasted watching 6 minutes of the video.

      Hi There, this episode is very long. Bottom line, Prox Cards are extremely easy to duplicate and are therefore no better than a brass key.
