We need either Aldi or Lidl in Canada to bring some competition to the monopoly that Loblaws and Sobeys have on the grocery industry here. Just love shopping in both stores in Europe and Aldi in the US.

I have an Aldi right around the corner, about 1.5 mile from the house. I shop there pretty much exclusively now. Mine has a limited selection compared to the one you visited, but I've been able to find about 95% of the foods I like and the rest I do without. The savings are significant compared to other grocers in the area.

I checked on google maps and there is an Aldi on Arsenal st. in Watertown, NY. So that will be a nice reason for a day-trip! Pretty soon we will be free to do more travelling as my wife, who is a teacher, will soon be joining me in retirement this July. Can’t wait. I have been catching up on all your retirement tips that you have made over the years. Thanks.- Mike from Ottawa

Hi Tina and Norm. I have an Aldi about 3 miles from my house. I go there once in a while for cheese, meat, shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico as all the others around here come from farms in China and Latin America. Irish butter is my favorite butter. The fruits are good and so are the veggies. I also like to go there for the different goodies from overseas. I have noticed that some customers fill out their cart. 🤔 I don't think I could survive on Aldi alone. I usually go to Publix, Walmart and King that have food from different places in the world. Take care. 🥂

Hey , you guys! As you probably know, we have both Aldi and Lidl in Ireland. Gamechangers here, for the same reasons as everywhere else. Not just price, but for the exceptional range and variety of foods. All other supermarkets are measured against the German discounters, these days. At least your underwhelming visit to Myrtle Beach afforded you the opportunity to visit Aldi! Every cloud.....Loved this video and commentary. That middle aisle.......dangerous to linger there!!!

From Germany I can only tell you that you won't know until it happens. The Aldi family (3rd generation) who also own Trader Joe's in the US is living a very private life and also their business decisions do not leak before the announcement. You don't get any news from them except they pass the lead to the next generation or one of them dies. There are no fancy yachts, scandals, excesses, nothing. We often don't even have recent photos. But we have all reason to believe they are decent people.

Fun Fact. Aldi is German, created by 2 German brothers, they split up bc of an argument and one got the North and created Aldi Nord (North in German), the other the South and created Aldi Süd (South in German). The Aldi u have in the US is Aldi Süd and Trader Joes is a subsidiary of Aldi Nord. Btw Lidl is also a German Discounter (that is what the type of store is called, its actually in the Name of Aldi because this is the abbreviation for AL-brecht (name of the brothers) DI-scount)) :)

Hi guys from east coast Canada. The prices you were featuring on this Aldi shop were quite amazing . A gallon of milk for such a price. Bought 4 l of milk yesterday for $6.88. That is the cheapest priced milk in Atlantic Canada. Cheapest available eggs at $5.99. And mass grocery store bread is at least $3.79 for a small loaf. GF bread for a very small loaf of frozen bread is $8.99. Costs certainly vary a lot with location.

We do regularly go there, but mainly for holiday season's shopping of German Chocolates, especially Marzipan, Gingerbreads, Speklulatius cookies. Aldi's subsidiary - Trader's Joes is another option, but pricier than Aldi. Aldi, LIDL and Continental are our favorites stores in Portugal as well. I have been to Aldi in Portugal, Spain and the UK. I didn't know they were moving into the Americas. I must admit I don't often shop in either Aldi or Lidl, because they never have the range I seek, and so I always end up having to go somewhere else to get the full basket. I have also got used to having my groceries delivered because again it saves time walking around a supermarket with miles of aisles. That said, having seen some of those prices I may give it another try just out of curiosity. I can't believe the eggs at $1.17. In the UK I pay £2.95 for 12 large eggs and that is an own brand. I also pay £2.25 for Kerrygold butter. They always have quirky gadgets in the middle of the shop. The best thing I bought was a UV meter with alarm and thermometer which I always take on holiday to give me the room temperature and the UV reading which is amazingly accurate.

I spent several weeks in the summer of 1980 with a friend staying at a Motel at Lauderdale by the Sea on the A1A and there was a Winn Dixxie advert on the tv all the time we used to imitate. No Frills grocery store requires a one dollar coin to use a cart. We do refer to Canada as that is our nationality and prices don’t vary that much because we have national monopolies in food, such as the Egg Farmers Of Canada, Canadian Wheat Board and Milk prices are regulated, so the milk price is Provincial but doesn’t have true competition. Aldi had been a supermarket chain in the Netherlands since 1973 - the Lidl 1996. They brought some stiff competition to the long standing supermarket chains. I feel they have closed the margins quite a bit and though popular, not as money saving as in the past. I don't actually shop there even though there is one not far from my home- walking distance in fact, or from bus stop outside our door to one outside the store, as I like to get my groceries all in one spot. Saves time AND money. I was surprised to see Irish butter in the Aldi. The has traveled some distance to get to those shelves I have to say. Hmmmm, I'm more a "buy local" but each to their own. Aldis are popping up all over the world. As far as Down Under in fact. Happy shopping to al shoppers no matter what their chosen supermarket is called. 👌🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿👜

Interesting to see that you enjoyed your visit to an Aldi Store in USA. As a German I am used to visit this super market chain for over 30 years now. For me it is a love hate relationship. To phrase this politically correctly, I am not the one that HAS to buy from Aldi, however, from time to time I go there nevertheless because it has a special aura. This includes the beggar outside who longs for the Euro coin that is in my shopping cart. Anyways, It is always a good price-performance ratio. I usually buy my everyday essentials from Aldi and everything else from other retailers. Have a fantastic Xmas season! Greets from Meerbusch!

We have not gone ever again because day insurance at our age now is ridicules expensive ! With the money you safe with buying there , you make it more expensive with added on the insurance ! By the way Norm , many things you showed us were cheaper here at Costco ! But the choice and quantities you have there are fabulous! We live next door to them but we get the end of the stick ! I see it at Home Sense and Winners ! We get half the stuff they have ! It is endless in the U.S. of A for sure !! Thank you Tina and Norm , you are always a pleasure to see on You Tube !
