You think rappers don't do the same songs for a while when they perform at different venues. Comedians do the same jokes to create a set for festivals, specials, or headlining performances. Yes, every now and then comedians need new material, but they use same jokes to find out what works and how to tweak them every now and then.

Yup. They create and master a few bits (ex: if my girl get slapped, she just got slapped) then put the best bits together for the perfect set. Take that set on the road and tweak wherever necessary. While creating new bits in the process. The best sets become specials, or what we see on Netflix, HBO, Comedy Central, etc... It took Kev 11 years to craft his perfect set, "I'm a Grown Little Man" (2008). GRIND!
