this song remembers me of my dad. my strongest memory that i have with him was when i had only 4 years and he arrived home at night and gave me a plush. my first plush and my favourite toy. I just want to see him again.
So my grandpa died long before I was born and we don’t talk to my grandparents on the other side, but when my grandma was first diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, we would sit down and she would tell me all about her childhood and my grandpa while I would brush her hair. I have never longed for someone as much as my grandpa, but when I get sad about him, everyone says I never even knew the man and shouldn’t be so sad. I have several of his old things like his guitar, a few of his shirts, and his military stuff, but I would trade all of it just to meet him for one day. This song always made me think of him and every year on the anniversary of his death, I listen to it. Nobody really knows about how much I want to meet this man, but I do so much and I wish someone would just understand.
You remind myself exactly like me the day my grandmother's funeral was. After a while at the funeral, I went outside to find people a bit upset, looking at my grandfather's urn. I don't remember him at all since he died when I was around a toddler. I looked at my cousin and asked, "What was he like?" And she told me, alright. She told me he was the life of the party and would make sure everyone would have a beer in hand when he walked in the room. And once she'd explained, I felt my eyes water. Sure, I barely knew him. But hearing how great of a man he was made me guilty that I could never meet him..
From what I hear, my granddad was the sweetest guy. I don’t exactly have the best family situation and I feel like he’s that person I could’ve confided in. The one that could’ve made the trip to see the rest of my family worth it, but he’s not here anymore. He died a couple years ago, and I can’t even remember his voice. I feel so sad about it. Sometimes I just wish I could go back in time and hear him laugh or eat his favorite candy with him. I can’t, but he’s there, in my heart, and so is yours. I might not be able to comprehend how much you want to meet him but I understand that you do and it’s completely valid that you want to meet him. In a way, you’re not alone. I just wanted you to know that. Im deeply sorry for your loss.
POV: You are growing up, happy home, happy life and happy Family. Then your dad and mom start to show less and less signs that they love each other, they start getting into arguments here and their. One day on your birthday you were excited to see if you would have a birthday party, just go hear more yelling and see you dad leave the house with bags and all his stuff, you ask him where he is going and he just leaves. You here your mom cry in the other room and ask her if she is ok, she just tells you to get out. Years pass and she got worse by drinking and you never heard from you dad since your birthday from years ago. You became less happy, started sm0k1ng and doing terrible in school. Your come home one day to find you mom has a surprise for you , you see your dad in the door way. You wanted to cry from the anger and sadness built up from when he left. “Hey kiddo! Your grown up-“ but you just cut him off “WHY DID YOU LEAVE US!! WHY DID YOU MAKE MY LIFE MISERABLE!!!” As you started to run out the door crying, as you ran to the road your heard honking and a bright light headed towards you. “That’s how I remember my life” you say to your younger self you has died years ago, staring down at your parents crying at your funeral. “Welp it’s been a good run”
