    This is one of the best ear training videos I've found. Stephanie, you clearly have some teaching gifts. The pacing, the clarity, and the explanations within each section are outstanding. Thanks so much!

    I've never practiced ear training before, but came across this vid just before a walk and decided listen while out on it, and it was incredibly helpful! Was getting quality right about 70% of the time and even started getting some of the inversions right towards the end. Thanks so much, will be checking out your other vids.

    It's so interesting that you think the major 7 is so distinctive. I confuse major and minor 7ths SO much, they sound so incredibly similar to me.

    I really love what you have put out into the world and listen while I walk. I'm a fan of Johnny Marr, Wes Montgomery and The Aristocrats.

    Here it is, 2022, and yes, ear training is still an issue. I plan to come back and drill this every day, until I can identify those pesky 7ths perfectly. Thanks so much for putting this resource out for struggling Ear Training I students :)

    Fully agree with other comments: this is the best ear training video on UA-cam that I can use on the go!
    Question for others: I wonder if everyone finds singing all the individual notes on your own without hearing the arpeggiated notes is harder than identifying the chord quality itself? That's been my experience, so I'm not able to identify the inversions without hearing the individual notes played.

    OMG, the 2nd half helped so much i perfected it for first try (exclude the inversions) im so amazed. Just feeling the tension of the notes is like an instinct hssdjkfhskjdfh amazing! thank you very much. Will practice more!

    I have problems with minor seventh chords and half-diminished seventh chords. Fully diminished chords are easy--they're the "Snidley Whiplash" chords.

    Great stuff! Thanks a bunch. (Audio quality is so-so, but that’s obviously a secondary consideration.)
    I took the usual Freshman and Sophomore Theory and Ear Straining 🤪 waaay back in the mid-‘80s. After decades of work-work-work, I’ve recently checked back on my ear-training level, and it was utterly humiliating!
    Nevertheless, on these particular exercises, I did much much better than I expected!

      Oh my god that’s me and I’m stressing about it haha, I went online to take a practice exam and every single Minor I got incorrect for putting Major, and vise versa. I can differentiate the difference in the notes but I can’t pinpoint a M and m :(

      The 1st inversion of M7 corresponds to a minor6 in root position and 1st inversion of m7 corresponds to a major6 in root position. Adding the 7 ‘flips’ the expected quality of major/minor

    • @StephanieDouglassMusic
      @StephanieDouglassMusic  2 роки тому

      That's a tricky one! For me it's the crunch between the root and the 7th in the M7 chord. They tend to feel "floaty" to me.

    • @StephanieDouglassMusic

      Nope! If you stack a major 3rd on an augmented triad, it will be the same as the root of the chord.
