I've always treated range touch spellcasting as if it was similar to range melee with shooting. Outside of melee it's still shooting with TN 4 to activate. Within Melee it's a TN 4 to shoot but Parry to hit (as I'm now close enough to sidestep or duck behind (Block and other such edges do effect this). I always treated touch spells the same way. TN 4 to activate but must beat parry to hit. Not because the spell doesn't happen. With a 4 or better roll it does. It just doesn't hit because the target isn't static and is actively trying to get away and avoids the spell (bolt for example) by sidestepping or ducking or dodging in some way.
As for Teleport I still use that as Touch Attack then opposed role to cast Foes away. I do this because I treat it as if I must stop their movement and control their ability to avoid me. Basically I treat it as more as a Grapple. Before I can Teleport him.
The first type is just me shooting my weapon (spell) in melee range, The second is me actually stopping their ability to avoid me and then inflicting magic they don't want to remove them from the area.

From experience, there’s a huge difference between “touching to strike” and “touching to make contact in any way possible.” Attacks for striking are subject to being blocked and parried but touches to make contact can use the opponent’s block and parry against them to make contact easier.
Edit: I feel the Fantasy Companion way is more realistic because in combat a trained fighter’s muscle memory response to block/parry incoming attacks will work against them.

I think I am coming around on the Arcane skill roll vs parry. Just need to get over my tendency to lean towards certain simulation ideas.

"There's no downside (except for having to be within melee range)..."
    That's quite a downside, though.

That is fair. I have had a lot more time to dwell on this question and coming around more so on the fantasy companion way of doing things.

If there's only one place it's called out, it's an exception to the standard. Multiple rolls are not fast, furious, or fun.

Not sure why they went to all that trouble. Touch is range limitation. To cast a touch spell you need to be in melee. This is limiting enough without adding extra rolls. The mage isn't literally touching the enemy, they are just casting the spell from a very close range.

Saying "Cast + Touch is more realistic" is like saying "Cast + Shooting is more realistic". Sure that's true, but also it's not Fast, Furious, or Fun. The Fantasy setting made a good change here.

Yeah. I have come around to casting vs parry these days.

How about using the one roll option but the caster has to use the lesser skill to hit.

I do like this option as an alternative to what is in the FC. I don't know if I like it more, but I like it anyways.
