Excellent rivalry at the time. 2 great defenses of the decade facing off was always must-see TV, especially during the playoffs. Lewis, Suggs, Reed, Ngata on one side and Farrior, Harrison, Polamalu, Woodley on the other side. Talk about smash mouth football 🤘

@Ron Edward • not exactly a lot. A combined 6 players (Polamalu, Ward, Roethlisberger, Reed, Lewis, Suggs). You also can throw in Jonathan Ogden and Alan Faneca which would make it 8 combined....4 each. Now if you want to see a rivalry with numerous HOF players, look up the Steelers-Raiders from 1974-76. The Raiders had 10 players (Ray Guy, George Blanda, Kenny Stabler, Fred Biletnikoff, Dave Casper, Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto, Ted Hendricks, Willie Brown), plus Al Davis and John Madden. Steelers also had 10 players (Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Mike Webster, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Donnie Shell), plus Art Rooney Sr, Chuck Noll and Dan Rooney. That's 25 HOF's combined.
Every game that season was intense. All 3 games. As a ravens fan it was hard to swallow but this rivalry and these defenses from both teams made each team better. From this date both teams were in Superbowls and afc championship games for next 5 years.
Fun to watch, but we were watching people take years off their life at the same time. There was a study done in 2015 that showed 87 out of 91 deceased former NFL players had all tested positive for CTE. I don't wish all sorts of mental health problems + progressive dementia on anyone.

No 2 teams in the NFL play as hard as these 2 teams when facing each other. Without a doubt the very best rivalry in the NFL. Each game plated is almost like watching the Super Bowl !!!!
Sunday officially marks the end of an Era. It is the first Ravens-Steelers game since 2003 to not feature Ben Roethlisberger or Joe Flacco. Here’s to Lamar Jackson and Mason Rudolph carrying the torch.
The rivalry started in 2000 when Shannon Sharpe called out Bill Cowher after the Steelers got shut out in the opening game. This game launched it to new heights though.
@@goldenraven2046 The media didn't really market Baltimore-Pittsburgh as a big rivalry until Harbaugh and Flacco got there. Instead they still treated Cleveland-Pittsburgh as the main rivalry. That's why the Browns and Steelers played each other in 5 primetime games between 2003-2009. I made a video about this on my channel actually.
@@RamenRobbie Yea cuz 2008 was really the start of the Ravens run as an elite team. I realize the won the SB in 2000, but that was really a lightning in the bottle type situation. From 2008 on, both teams were top 5 teams in the NFL pretty much and the game always had huge implications. Even in the years post SB 47 when the Ravens started missing the playoffs, they had a big game against Pittsburgh at the end of seasons. Losing close games to the Steelers cost them playoff births in 2016 and 2017.
Great game that set the tone for the future. Little did we know at the time this would be not only the best rivalry in the NFL for the next few years, but one of the best rivalries in sports history. 2008 to 2012 was such an awesome run, and it was refreshing to see two defensive powerhouses in an era that was shifting more and more towards offensive domination. I wish my 49ers had one of these defenses now.

Yes you can die but football is football it is meant to be physical, in boxing someone can die but they don't say "punches are shoulder and beneath" because boxing is also suoot to be physical
I’ll never forget this game. It was our first anniversary (second trip to Heinz Field) and the Steelers offense stunk up the joint in the first half. I’ll never forget Troy flying across the field to break up that pass, Mendenhall getting hurt, that strip fumble td, Santonio’s TD, Mewelde’s big 3rd down catch and run, and the final kick. Also Le’Ron McClain could gain 3 yards at any moment just by pushing into the pile.
James Harrison used to OWN the Ravens. Troy on those blitzes too. I was at the Ravens-Steelers game in Baltimore I can't remember if it was that year or the next when Troy hit Flacco on a blitz and set up the game winning score. He won Pittsburgh that game.
I remember this game. Being a Steelers fan I have to say that Baltimore & Ray Lewis was always the toughest. Great games on the edge of my seat almost every time. Both teams have been blessed with multitudes of talent.
First year I started watching football. I haven't seen this game in 13 years but I remember every play that was going to happen. Good memories for sure
Ravens fan here everytime we played the steelers you could feel the intensity like it was a playoff game...you always knew it was going to be a great game
I’m proud to be a fan in this rivalry, and no matter how bad the ravens or us are, it will still be a tough game ALWAYS. The game is never over 7+ points difference. The only time I’ve seen it was the last game of the season.
I remember how significant this game was for the Steelers. The 2 prior games they played, they scored only 1 TD (W 10-6 vs Browns, L 15-6 vs Eagles). At the half time of this game, the crowd was booing, seeing how anemic their offense was. Whatever was said in the locker room worked. That Santonio Holmes TD was the necessary shot in the arm. The fumble on Flacco was the icing on the cake.

These were the best NFL games Id ever seen. For 3 or 4 years these were the best games. Didnt hurt that the Steelers edged em almost everytime in these days.
This rivalry, at its peak, this was one of the best, toughest rivalries in football. During it's main run: - For a time, it was the closest rivalry in NFL history point-wise. For several years, games were decided by 3 or fewer points more often than not. - Of the 7 times in history a division has sent 3 teams to the playoffs, 2 of those times these teams were involved. - It is one of the only storied rivalries (other than KC/LA) to have one team beat the other three times in one season, and do so during the peak of the rivalry. - 4 superbowls wins in 6 appearances between the two teams over 20 years, depending on when you start the rivalry. - 10 (to date and still counting) Hall of Famers - 12 All decade players - Pro-bowlers left and right. I stopped counting but it is a ton. - Both teams are in the discussion of the greatest defenses in history, with the 90's Blitzburg passing the torch to a Ravens defense that somehow made Trent Dilfer a superbowl champion, and then back and forth again. There was so much excellence that the rivalry almost cooled because of itself. What started as a rivalry of hate, has turned into one of fierceness but respect. It will probably cool off even more now that the teams seem to be going different directions, and we may never see it be as great as it was. Other rivalries may have longevity, crazier home-town fan hatred (though a true rivalry this does not always make), and other things to back their claim; but no other rivalry in the post modern era has produced more intense, close, and quality football than these two teams.
This is back when faux-MNF was still fooling everyone that it was the real MNF. Not fooling anyone anymore, MNF is now the bottom feeder of the NFL in both schedule and production value.

These were the best NFL games Id ever seen. For 3 or 4 years these were the best games. Didnt hurt that the Steelers edged em almost everytime in these days.
I miss this Steelers team !!! Had alot of respect for that Ravens team too, they were tough as well. This was just all around great football !
These Defenses were insane
This rivalry, at its peak, this was one of the best, toughest rivalries in football. During it's main run:
- For a time, it was the closest rivalry in NFL history point-wise.
- 10 (to date and still counting) Hall of Famers
- 12 All decade players
- Pro-bowlers left and right.
Football just ain’t the same no more 🥺🥺 I remember watching this game with my pops & I remember when Ray Lewis broke Mendenhall shoulder at 5:42
Better than the Super Bowl. Anytime these two teams meet it's a battle.
This is back when faux-MNF was still fooling everyone that it was the real MNF. Not fooling anyone anymore, MNF is now the bottom feeder of the NFL in both schedule and production value.

I actually really liked those 2-3 years when Ron Jaworski was in the booth with Jon Gruden. They had great chemistry & complimentary insights.
@@CrysisOwnsHalo i always liked gruden in the booth. he brought coaching insight with the ability to translate it to general audiences. and he kept it real. sad when he left
It was nice growing up during this era of the NFL when you could actually hit a little harder, celebrate without getting a taunting flag, and sack a qb without getting a personal foul. Made the game seem more fair and less controversial
👏agree
This rivalry was born long before 2008, it's simply a continuation of the Browns and Steelers.
The NFL hands down was more exciting back then im a cowboys fan and this sh*t was really good🔥
Damn that was a great game... Awesome upload
When football was played correctly and exciteing nothing like todays game
The game ain't the same, this is football.
Damn this threw me back, I remember how cool it felt watching MNF back then, big rivalry, you could not be a fan of either team and you'd be 100% into the game
I remember this game clearly, best game ever, Super Bowl material.... definitely a defensive game....
Back when hitting was part of football, love it.
Man I miss those players, those hard hitting plays, just the rivalry as a whole
Wow that was amazing the Ravens Vs Steelers AFC North Division Rivalry Game 2008 damn I started watching the NFL back in 2012 Playoffs not the Regular Season
