- Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert presents this documentary about male infertility. It doesn't only talk about male infertility, but also the lack of men talking about it when compared to women.

Combatting stigma takes tremendous courage. Also, facing one's insecurity and embarassment in a public way, well there isn't anything more manly than that. Recognizing humor as a strength of his (and as a way of gaining some traction on a difficult subject), but not getting lost is crudeness, is extremely tricky, but he did this with tremendous class. I expected to watch a couple minutes of this, but I watched the whole thing. I was simply amazed at his integrity, choosing to do something for a public good even when every instinct in his soul told him to put himself as far away from the public eye on this as possible. And what a loving relationship he has with his wife. If they do manage to have a child, I think that child will be loved well beyond many others. Well done.
Bloody well done Rhod and you guys in the pub! So courageous and you're all right, it needs to be talked about! I don't even know where to start with how good this is!

I'm so sad that even in today's age men are still afraid of ridicule or embarrassment due to infertility. I understand it's extremely personal and intimate, but when they aren't even going to DOCTORS deeply upsets me. There's so much help I wish they could have, and I wish they had their own communities. Heck, I wish for MIXED gender communities, stuff it!

In France we aren't that far although our président only yesterday proposed à free male-fertilty test for men starting from 20 years old.
This is hard to discuss for women and even more so for men. I’ve been through this before and I knew about my challenges as a 15 year old girl PCOS diagnosis. I think men are told they have to be fertile because it makes them feel “macho”.
not sure if that is maybe a UK only problem, in Germany we have something similar to Gynecologists for men, called Urologe. They cover the "men" side of the conversation and its quite common for men to go meet one on a regular basis for cancer prevention and of course also in case of fertility issues.

It is obligatory for this documentary to have thousands and millions more views!!!! I've never thought any of it, and now, hopefully, I could also educate someone else, if an opportunity arises.
in Aust. we have 'Men Sheds' A space for (older) men to chat and talk and meet. Maybe start that in the UK. and then talk about sperm (next generation sperm).

It's certainly a very dated stigma that has to be ended. It's ironic and sad that, basically, men are taught to be sexist towards themselves by creating this dated idea of what they should be rather than learning what's healthy for them, mentally, emotionally, and so on. If there's a problem with one gender, there's a problem with the other. It has to be addressed.
This is quite weird how the partners (male) don't get tested to check if there were something wrong with them.
What kind of practices happened there? I thought it's standard practices to test both parties, the woman and the man, to see what's going on with theit reproductive effectiveness; even when only the woman who came to the doctor to see what's up.
I get that men feeling embarassed to produce semen in the clinic. But it's shocking to me that they got considerably left out from the procedures.
Am I weird to not give a damn if one day I found myself to be infertile? It's like finding out about my blood type to me.
I think they need to push it more to the professionals to also invite the men partners of the woman who came to them asking about her fertility.

Great video Rhod Gilbert. I can understand that maybe the NHS could be guilty of sidelining men's issues. But why did Russell Davis not ask for a fertility test for himself in the 8 years that his wife's issues were being eliminated from the equation. It's not rocket science and he's not a child that needs to be told when to act. He's a grown-assed man for heaven's sake. I don't buy into his victim-hood. He is as much responsible for addressing the issue as the doctors and given that it's his progeny that's at stake, he has an even greater reason to get to the bottom of the problem. I still find it incomprehensible that in the 8 years that his wife was being tested, that he didn't once think to apply for a fertility test for himself. That level of impenetrable stupidity is in a league of its own, beyond gross incompetence. Maybe that's WHY the doctor asked him whether he'd been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. 😄

I need the World to realise that breeding is NOT a priority. If you can't procreate maybe it's nature's way of saying you shouldn't.
you're a real shitty human being. just because something isn't important to you doesn't mean it isn't to someone else. There's nothing wrong with wanting a child.
There's a lot of people that do breed that shouldn't though!
It’s got to be the food. Eat organic to stop imbibing low level poisons and eat your super foods. Check out a parallel subject called “the potenter cat study”. And if its a side effect of plastic in our environment were all screwed.

If you really want a child for the sake of having an animal to bring up under your influence, ADOPT one.
There's a million kids out there who do not have access to a "regular" FAMILY.
If you're so desperate to have progeny, adopt one of the MILLIONs that are already in existance.

If you think adopting a child is easy then you haven't really looked into it much.
Total crap. How will talking about it solve the problem?
The way talking about anything can help solve problems. Got depression? Talk to a psychotherapist. Got an embarrassing disease? Talk to a doctor. Feeling lonely/bored/stressed? Talk to a friend/family member/someone you trust. Feeling afraid for your safety? Talk to a police officer. The power of speech has given black people their freedom, gay people their rights to marry, and women their rights to vote, drive, and wear trousers. The only talking that doesn't help is done by politicians, because all they do is lie and cheat.
My swimmers are either dead or demented. 8 miscarriages with 2 different women. At first I blamed them but slowly realised it was me. Took awhile to accept as there's so much about woman's infertility and not much about men's. Now I'm seeking support, understanding and communication with other epople who can't have kids. But there's not much out there for men
