Johan Fouche some people do it for other reasons than to just “prove they can”. A lot of mountaineers find solace in the environment and feel in a completely different realm, away from the hustle and bustle, and pollution of the cities. And it’s for the same reasons I go hiking in the jungle or swimmng miles out to sea - it isn’t so much to prove I can, but to get away from people and see nature close up.
Maybe if they took all of those guide cables down and the ladders, it would only be extremely talented people climbing that mountain and it would be a lot less there and a lot less dying.

Climbing Mt Everest will always be somewhat difficult and risky. The heavy traffic puts everyone in danger; it’s even worse for the less experienced and/or physically fit. This is not a place for anyone with a pulse and some cash.
A Brit named George Mallory, 37, when asked why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, his reply, the famous saying, "Because it's there." Died along with Andrew Irvine on June 8, 1924, they were last scene about 800 feet from the Summit, when a storm struck and poor visibility kept those below from seeing whether they made it to the Summit or not. Mallory's body was found in 1999, 75 years later, Irvine's body is yet to be found. Mallory said to his wife, "I will leave your picture on top," his papers were found, but his wife's picture wasn't with them. Did he Summit? A camera that is possibly with Irvine's body might tell the story of the 1st Summit, if not Edmund Hillary, New Zealander, was the 1st, on May 29, 1953. Cheers Mate!

Some people are just obsessed with mountains. And if you were, standing on top of a mountain would give you a feeling which is hard to explain to someone who just does not care about mountains at all. Being on a relatively small mountain (like 10000 ft) is far more exciting to be than being in an airplane. Being in an airplane does not mean anything to me. To be honest, i would rather be on Mt Everest than in space. Unless i would get the chance to climp Mons Olympus. :p
Rich Person: I want to see the mountain. Friend Climber: But you never trained and your too weak. They wont let you win. ---days later--- Rich Person: Here 50k. Mount. Everest: Come on in
I think the biggest change should be is the Sherpas should make the exact same as the guides. Also, they should get an extra $1000 each time they have to make more than one trip from camp to camp. Each organization should also be required to have life insurance policies for each Sherpa in the amount of $150,000. I say this because without the Sherpas they could not have these expeditions. The government could make it a requirement, and the companies would pay, because they’ll still make millions. As of now a guide makes over $30k and a Sherpa makes $700 each expedition. Guide may make a lot more.

I have no idea why anyone would. But anyway, they shouldn't allow so many people on the mountain. That makes it more dangerous.
Also if the Sherpa says go back, the climber should go back with them. One Sherpa lost his fingers to frostbite, because the climber he took wouldn't turn back, because he said he had paid a lot of money, and the Sherpa didn't want to ruin the Sherpa reputation.
Well if the Sherpa said go back, he should go back on the condition he will be allowed to climb back up again when the weather improves for free. Hopefully this will help save some lives.
@@lenac3587 problem is, it costs them a lot of money and effort each time. If the Sherpas had a price plan that included the possibility of several trips, the cost of lives might be averted.

If you can't set your own fixed ropes, you shouldn't be on any mountain, let alone ones that are 29000 feet above sea level. Most people who die on the mountain I do not feel sorry for. They're rich narcissists who are in way over their heads, while sherpas and guides are doing the real work.

Johan Fouche some people do it for other reasons than to just “prove they can”. A lot of mountaineers find solace in the environment and feel in a completely different realm, away from the hustle and bustle, and pollution of the cities.
I loved doing the Everest base camp trek, or being up any mountain.

IT is awesome to see people so motivated and hyped up they are willing to die on a mountain!! If I had an extra 100,000 MT Everest would not be the place to go
Climbing Mt Everest will always be somewhat difficult and risky.
These people are EXTREMELY foolish to VOLUNTARILY be in this DEADLY zone.
Because of privileged types who think their money is an automatic airlift to the top when actually they're depending on Sherpas to do the real work.
Well with enough money it can literally be a helicopter or airplane flying you over the top.
I don’t know but envy of people with money seems like all the rage nowadays. I don’t think it’s a smart move paying for this adventure because of the risk hey if they want to do that and maybe die they know the risk.
@@edwinkubena9944 It's not the envy of people with money, but the disdain for those who have money but don't want to put in the hard work that it takes to truly climb the mountain. They want others to set up the ropes and do all the heavy lifting for them. Therein lies the problem.

Some people are just obsessed with mountains. And if you were, standing on top of a mountain would give you a feeling which is hard to explain to someone who just does not care about mountains at all. My motto is "just because it's there, doesn't mean u need to go up it"..
