- During the Interwar Period, France prepared a so called Maginot Line; lines of fortifications meant to defend against Germany, one way or another. Though, France never expanded it near to the Belgian and Swiss border since they believed "it would be silly if Germany declared war against these neutral countries in order to walk around it".
In 1940, France's claim seem to get real.

- Held the line at dunkirk under artillery, aviation bombing, tanks, superiorly equiped infantry. with only first ww equipment, against 100 times their number managed to evacuate all the fleeing english forces and some of the franch ones by holding the line long enough for 2 retreat cargo to be done, while maintaining the 1:100 ratio in death
- did so much guerrila tactic action that the german couldn't get more than half of the french territory
- cut an axis critical supply route with a single platoon that was underequipped (research the general LECLERC)
and that is some of the most obscure feats of french history for the ww2.
They figured no unit of the German army could penetrate the Ardenne due to its density

Funny, but historically speaking, France wanted Germany to go around, its why they build the Maginot line, to avoid direct German invasions, and it worked.
What French didn't realized, its how speedy Germans tanks could cross the Ardennes.
the Maginot line is really impassable, even the Nazi army could not pass .....
except that the allies of France (especially Belgium) felt superior, impassable and above all safe ...
so they did not make the Maginot line, which meant that during the invasion of Belgium, most of the French troops were forced to go to Belgium while the other took care of France ...
and I'm not even talking about the Ardennes ....
So to summarize ..... France is the best player of the game ..., but when you have a crappy team, better player or not .... you lose.

They wanted to do that, but Belgium neutrality and diplomatic issue made the extension of the maginot line canceled.
And then everyone says France sucked at defending themselves, well I guess that’s part of the game, hopefully people will stop playing this ridiculous game of bashing one country and constantly dirtying its image, which already tells a lot for itself.

They insta-surrendered to the germans, getting no damage on their cities, having evacuated all of their jews to Sweden months prior, so they didnt have any genocide either. And then, the allies didn't even bother invading Denmark, as Germany surrendered anyways. Not a single shot fired

I was playing Germany the other day and let’s say my 1939 invasion.... was particular.
England and France moved almost all of their troops into Belgium and the Netherlands turning it into a continuation of the Maginot Line.
It was like WW1 all over again, everyone pumping out hundreds of thousands of men as infantry devisions into those blood soaked lands. Despite the frontlines being covered in battles, despite me mobilising over 200 devisions to the western front, the frontlines never moved.
The invasion of France only ended in 1942 when Italy capitulated France by attacking it’s exposed flank. After almost 3 bloody years I finally took the Netherlands and Northern Belgium.
That’s when the Soviet Union attacked.
