Hyundai/Kia has really stepped their game up in the past few years. They certainly aren't the same company they were a few years ago. No more laughing at these guys
Kia and Hyundai have stepped up their game by leaps and bounds. Who would of thought that one day I would own both a Palisade and a Stinger?? Phenomenal value we are getting for the price point. Dealerships can't seem to hold on to any of these SUVs at all.
I currently drive a 2019 Kia Optima EX with the 1.6t engine and DCT. I've so far put over 50,000 miles on it, due to a 120 mile roundtrip daily commute (I'm an Essential worker who can't work from home). The car has been flawless. Absolutely no rattles, creaks, or squeaks. No infotainment hiccups, blackouts or failures. No dropped phone calls due to sudden Bluetooth disconnections. Premium stereo plays perfectly. Everything is so tight. I trust today's Kia. I will definitely get the Telluride in a few years as I sail into retirement.
I think the comments about the transmission are due to using the Smart mode. The reason your throttle input may feel inconsistent compared to output is that the Smart mode switches automatically between Sport and Comfort. Putting it in Sport mode yields consistent but very touchy throttle response. While Comfort mode delays throttle input slightly to reduce any jerky behavior from a heavy throttle input. I tend to drive in Comfort mode and only switch to Sport if I want to pull out quickly into heavy traffic. I do experience something similar to what you described in Smart mode. Outstanding and thorough review. People, if you are considering a 3 row SUV and want to feel like you got a luxury model for the price of a domestic, this is the vehicle. I love mine!
When you were sitting in the back seat there I found myself thinking of the 2001 Toyota SR5 4runner my parents used to have when I was a kid and just how simple it was in comparison to what vehicles are like nowadays. All that was back there were seats and cupholders. And of course the famous roll down back window ;) Still, the 4runner was my favourite family vehicle to this day. Nothing beats simplicity in my opinion, more rugged, less to break.

What an amazing looking SUV. Telluride sets a new standard in the SUV market. Those ones already on the market look way too outdated in the interior and seriously need to step up the game. And how would you know how reliable Telluride will be when it is a brand new model? I think the Japanese brands are over hyped.

Traditionally, KIA has been challenged in terms of fuel economy in most of their vehicles. The 3.8L V6 running the Atkinson Cycle, a design that sacrifices performance to some extent for fuel economy, is designed to address that issue. Thus, even though the engine is half a liter larger than the 3.3L V6 in the Sorento, the fuel economy is at least equal and the 0-60 performance (a bit below 7.5 seconds) is the same. Some will yearn for a turbo version of the 3.3L V6 found in the Stinger but I strongly suspect that ain't happenin' either in Telluride or in the Palisade. In the first place scalding performance in a mainstream 3 row crossover ranks about 25th among the top ten priorities of customers. The "take rate" would be minuscule. Considering the massive demand for the current version of the Telluride I suspect that any KIA exec that suggests diverting production to such a vehicle will be putting the contents of his office in a cardboard box within the week. Even if that weren't the case, the management of the Hyundai/KIA conglomerate would red light any turbo that risks cannibalizing sales of the forthcoming Genesis SUV.
Are you using a Go Pro camera to do this video. Also I wonder can one have Sirius Radio via Blue Tooth on that main screen and be able to change channels on the touch screen?
I most likely trade my 2015 4Runner limited for this, since 4runner 2020 is going to be a disappointment. I like how rugged 4runner is but the upgrades in Kia is so hard to pass on.
If I expected to keep a vehicle for 25 years, I'd buy a 4Runner. But an inefficient 4 liter engine mated to a dated five speed transmission is the price one pays for that durability.
IJBCI not reliable. I have had horrible experiences with Kias in the past. Always had problems and my car was recalled. I decided to never touch a Korean car again. Get a Toyota they are so reliable and last forever!

The highest tow rating of any Explorer is only 5600 lbs compared to the Durango's 8700 lbs! That may not matter to those who don't engage in serious towing but even a moderately optioned lowest trim Explorer has an MSRP approaching $50,000 and that's with a 2.3L turbo four banger, an engine that's impressive in a base level Mustang weighing 3500 lbs but with questions of long term durability in a vehicle that weighs about 2.5 tons when loaded with fuel, passengers, and gear.
No. The Palisade is built in Korea and aimed at international markets in Asia and Europe. The Telluride is built in Georgia (the state not the country) and aimed exclusively at the North American market.
