Actors have said many things to promote their shows but at the end of the day they don't write for the show. This show clearly depicts a bromance/bff relationship between Steve and Danny. Similar to JD and Turk from Scrubs. I am sure if they wanted them as a couple they would have indicated that early on. People can ship them off course but the reality is they will never be a couple.
