Mine was highly modified, to race motocross when i was 9 for a year or two. But a proper 2 stroke pipe with the bulge (thinking it would hit a harder power band but it didn't, although it did increase power) Even with a waterproof spark plug cap, the bike died in thick mud. Had to fabricate a cover. I still have it, and after riding someone elses, im actually surprised of how much power it has.
The engine is based of of a 70's road bike so i have heard form forums but has been altered to produce less power so it ok for kids to use and it saves a lot of money if u can use an existing engine design rather than start form scratch. Easy way to reduce power on 2 stroke and what yamaha did to pw80 1. limit air intake flow 2. limit exhaust flow and design exhaust to produce low output power 3. set carb to run rich standard to limit power and provide excess lube 4. Fit rev limiter to cdi
you usually need to rejet the carb when you increase the air flow to the carb significantly but that depends on just how restrictive the stock filter was to begin with more air equals more fuel if u got low power low down but no bog increase pilot jet if bog is high up try a smaller main jet u can buy different needles but usually jets will do in most cases
it is to vent the carb fuel bowl as u need atmospheric pressure for it to work properly otherwise u will get in correct fuel flow into your carb make sure it is working or oyu could run into serious fuelling issues
I thought I was loosing it when I wanted to do mods on mine, thanks for the video I made up my mind. Cool bike! Where do you get the front fender like that?
Your best bet is standered gearing but doing the clutch mod so u get higher engagement point Wich helps exaleration in a major way and standered gearing for the speed
Dont worry about it i always help another 2 stroke lover in need The exhausts u see on ebay are using generic pictures of 2 stroke exhausts Dont worry fmf only made 2 pipes for the bike and each will fit perfectly Mine went on in 10 mins flat also if u can get fmf silencer to go with front pipe Tho u may have to strip bodywork off bike first (no big deal)
Colinatoruk, greetings. Your bike is impressive. I recently acquired a PW80 myself and your video has further exited me with my machine. You mentioned some interesting things, such as: a "speedo..sumthing"(?). How does yours work? Does the meter lead to a sensor of sorts? Likewise your RPM meter (vry kwl). Did you modify your airbox? Tell me more about your performance coil and dual spark plug! (if nothing else, I'm interested in these). What is this atcdi that removes your rev limit? Thanks
it has had quite a few mods in total but they are supporting mods I am going to alter the ports and increase compression over winter but keeping it 80cc as I want to see what engine is capable of producing
I'm getting a 2000 pw80 and plan to use it as a pit bike. What shock is comparable with it. I want something big enough to lift it and add more stiffness.
There is a guy on thumpertalk forums in the special intrest section named Smarconi and he is God when it ocmes to pw80's he has done pretty much everything that can be done to a pw80 and whats more has got dyno figures to back up what mods he has done He knows and has done a lot more than me to his pw80 and is a sclose as an expert as u gonna get on these things
The speedo is cheapo bicycle one Rev counter is single lead wrap it around spark plug lead 3 times and tuck rest away Sparkplug is splitfire brand made just for pw80 it has a v electrode hence making 2 sparks instead 1 coil is an performance one it is orange and just gives a bit better spark it dosnt make it rev higher or anything so isnt really needed but i change dit as mine was 13 years old and i got a good deal on this performanc one
it is but if u look after it itll last u a life time plus if u sell the bike u get more for it with fmf on it or u can easily sell the exhaust aagain on its own If u love your pw80 itl thank you for it just remmeber u will lose some low end torque with fmf pipe but u gain more power but u just have to stay in higher revs ( also u need this exhaust for future power mods )
Carb is rich standard but with mods i done it actually a little lean on low speed circuit hence change form 15 pilot jet to 30 i kept the main jet stock (125) as the mods leaned out the mixture just right so it wasnt funning rich on full throttle (bogging) Dont bother about performanc ecoil it just for better starting no really gonna make it rev better much or ought
it means your carburrettor jetting needs adjusting u might need a bigger pilot jet when i uprated my airbox it ran well to lean so i changed pilot jet form 15 to a 30 and she runs great as usually th emain is pretty rich standard so u might not need to alter that also clean your carb and set the float height as with incorrect float ur fighting a loosing battle if u trying to jet your carb properly
Thanks for the reply so far Colin, I think I understand how the rev counter might work (I'm speculating it senses the firing of the spark based on a shift in magnetic field ie- detected by its single wire). I would really like to find out about aftermarket/perf coils for the PW80, I have not found such in my own search thus far. Got that spark name-Thanks! I think your bike is possibly one of the most accessorized PW80's out there. Tell me how your 2 stroke engine had its rev 'unlimited'
about 300 quid i think roughly shes as good as new now tho i just got the kit i need to sand the cylinder head down so i can increase the compression and alter the port timing and that cost like 15 quid you can add a base gasket to raise cylinder jugg a bit and then sand down the head to compensate and add tin foil as a gasket instead of metal one as tin foil is a lot thinner and helps increase compression i also gonna dremmel the exhaust port and smooth intake
Stock cdi has rev limiter aparently form what i read so i imported one form 1983 1983- 1989 has no rev limiter Also the Fmf exhaust i have has been dyno proven by a guy in america to make quite abit extra hp over stock one however the gain is at high revs only The stock exhaust pulls a lot better from standstill but runs out of puff quite soon and dosnt let engine rev high If u go fmf route buy whole system as they are tuned to work together 2 strokes have complex exhaust design
on ebay mainly u just have to keep checking ften for new items ot pop up as there are a lot of pw80 items listed but if u put in effort to sort through the list u can find some awesome moddding bargains
Air box As standard the pw80 air box is wrong for performance but great for stopping water penetration Main problem is the snorkel ( 3 joined rubber tubes) it breathes air through if u ever suck on a straw u understand how hard trying to breathe thru one is. Yamaha did this for 2 reasons 1. stop dirt entering airbox and 2. Reduce engine power as origionalengine was designe dto have more power than what it does but being a beginner bike yamaha reduced the power of the engine
U want a fast ace shock for it they are on ebay just measure ure shock mount bolt hole diameter and length of shock and how much travel stock swing arm has plus thickness of bottom and top mounting point of stock shock then compare to ones fast ace sells to find suitable one i am using stock shock wiht an extender as a temp fix but will get proper rear shock in future and most likely a fast ace one front forks just need preload increasing with pvc tubing and more oil in each leg
i have a suzuki rm 85 l and it redlines at a whopping 11000 rpm. is there any tachometer (rev counter) that will work for it. thanks very much. nice bike anyways.
i might get the body kit but pwonly does not say the price. where did you get that speed dometer because im interested also i got the front fender and the foot pegs thanks
I have added link in description to the article in the forum where smarconi has pimped his bike out its a long read over 20 pages but please read it u be glad u did
41 mph as I altered the gearing if I put stock cogs on 47 mph but I get better low down usage with slower gears as bike has not much low end torque with FMF compared to stock but tons more torque in mid and high rpms plus it revs a lot higher than stock its all about compromise
Speedo is cheap 4 quid ebay special Rev counter was 10 quid off ebay dead easy to fit too I so one day want to turn my pw80 into an evo model that kit looks ace especially upside down forks and disk brakes and badd ass bodywork it really looks just like a mini mx bike :)
The cdi is what controls rev limit and as folklore suggests standard cdi unit made after 1991 has built in rev limiter altho this hasnt actually been proven dyno wise just what pick up form forums about pw80's Now if u have get hold of an cdi form 1983 to 1989 it meant not to have any rev limiter built in aparently so the story goes yamaha built in a rev limiter in later bikes because kids were revving them to much in 1st gear and causing warrenty claims but this is only old wives tale lol
You do all that too make it faster then you put smaller sprockets too make top speed slower why my stock ones hit 41mph and I ordered 14/36 sproket kit
Remove these restrictions like i have doen and engine starts to act like a 2 stroke should free revving and plenty of power. If u want serious power out of your pw tho u are gonna need to do what i have done but also u wull need to raise engine compression and alter port timing as well as size of ports especially exhaust port . I have not done this yet buy am planning to do so soon
here is a link for rev counter i use its on ebay at £7.51 posted item number : 221175476389 just paste number into ebay search bar only catch with rev ocunter is there is a little bit of time lag but is ok when u rev it for a few secs constantly then back off throttle to see what rev it was its ok for the price and u wrap lead wround spark plug wire simples

Must be the nicest PW80 I've seen so far. My son has one and I'm "pimping " it too. Nice video, thanks for all the info
Why didn't you start it up
It doesn't run
Sounds good, thanks for starting it up
I was so jealous of this bike growing man

How much horse power does it make with the sticker kit and blue plastics ????
Your best bet is standered gearing but doing the clutch mod so u get higher engagement point Wich helps exaleration in a major way and standered gearing for the speed

What front fender is on this thing
where does that tube between the air mix and idle go to because mines not even connected to anything
There is a guy on thumpertalk forums in the special intrest section named Smarconi and he is God when it ocmes to pw80's he has done pretty much everything that can be done to a pw80 and whats more has got dyno figures to back up what mods he has done

all engines have a power band weather 4 or 2 stroke
it just means where engine is working at it most efficient as in ( hitting the power band )

That is true but they can be surprisingly nippy with a few tweaks here and there
I love my pw80 awesome fun for so little money and built like a tank

Where did you source the FMF system?
fo you feel a difference with the ignition coil
does anyone know where to get a aftermarket cdi to get rid of the rev limiter?
on ebay mainly u just have to keep checking ften for new items ot pop up as there are a lot of pw80 items listed but if u put in effort to sort through the list u can find some awesome moddding bargains
Would a kx 65 expansion camber fit on their
By the way dont worry about performance coil it just for better starting i only changed mine as it was old it wont make it rev higher
Mine was modded to race.
It had so much done to it, including a kx 80 (i think) exhaust, and lotss of engine work.
Same if it goes in wet grass it will pop a wheelie under you
Do you know if the pw50 magneto and wiring will fit on a yamaha chappy?
When I get high compression head I may go back to stock gears again depending on power gain
how to remove the rev limiter in a 2001 pw80
i hate to bug you again but all the fmf pw80 fatty exhaust on ebay look like they dont fit and im looking to get one, tell me what you think.
Air box

Is this bigger or smaller a 125 pit bike
Smaller and don't het a pit bike
Mcnugget i wanted to get this as a pitbike instead of a Chinese bike
HondaMob yea I would say do this bike but they’re boggy when you shift I’d get an xr100 or a ttr125 personally instead of a Chinese pitbike
DoughboyD16 I think about the same maybe a little taller
Where do u buy da plastics
i have a suzuki rm 85 l and it redlines at a whopping 11000 rpm. is there any tachometer (rev counter) that will work for it. thanks very much. nice bike anyways.
i might get the body kit but pwonly does not say the price.
where did you get that speed dometer because im interested
also i got the front fender and the foot pegs thanks
I have added link in description to the article in the forum where smarconi has pimped his bike out its a long read over 20 pages but please read it u be glad u did
41 mph as I altered the gearing if I put stock cogs on 47 mph but I get better low down usage with slower gears as bike has not much low end torque with FMF compared to stock but tons more torque in mid and high rpms plus it revs a lot higher than stock its all about compromise
what is the part on top of the fuel tank cap?
That's a carb vent hose it needs to be kept clean as it goes to float bowl
when buy the fmf?
Portugal
thanks!!
What kind of front fender did u put on it?
Honda 70
Speedo is cheap 4 quid ebay special
Rev counter was 10 quid off ebay dead easy to fit too
I so one day want to turn my pw80 into an evo model that kit looks ace especially upside down forks and disk brakes and badd ass bodywork it really looks just like a mini mx bike :)
HI love your bike n upgrades, I want to get the same pipe system, which model you bought? or what model of the fatty fits in the pw80? thank you
If I buy this will it keep up with banshees ?
Yeah it will
TrendSet SB no it wont
A banshee could beat any pw80 no matter what
Brent H joke
no
nice bike, where did you get that front fender
what year yz80 cdi did you use? did you have to do any modifications to made it work?
pw80 only front fender tho tbh im sure a ttr 90 would fit
Stickers aren't a mod hahahahah
they got cool new bodywork for pw80 on there u cna have it look even more like a mini mx bike now wiht new evo kit :)
Impressive bike were did you purchase these modifications
Thts a good bike wat speed does it go
Jess Randall a regular can reach about 40 to 50 in third gear
That is sick
Why would u truck out a friken pw 90
*80
That chain is slack as a ball bag!
phil Hornsby i seen that too! i think thats why the other guy was standing in front of it
ميمممي
Holy cow your right
Till the guy 5 times ideal rider weight gets on it
I was wondering that to, if it comes off at speed it could get ugly.
how much did all this cost?
James C Barclay three times what the bike is worth
it has a py90 mudgaurd
These do not have rev limiters...
Are you live in dublin?
That chain needs tensioning matey
The cdi is what controls rev limit and as folklore suggests standard cdi unit made after 1991 has built in rev limiter altho this hasnt actually been proven dyno wise just what pick up form forums about pw80's

Bit small for you....
Built Like A Tank.
thanks
You do all that too make it faster then you put smaller sprockets too make top speed slower why my stock ones hit 41mph and I ordered 14/36 sproket kit
I like that bike
Love to get one of them
But I'm not aloud
it is very reliable hope u will be allowed one day
How old are you
Just get one and bring it to ur house that’s what I done
Remove these restrictions like i have doen and engine starts to act like a 2 stroke should free revving and plenty of power.
If u want serious power out of your pw tho u are gonna need to do what i have done but also
u wull need to raise engine compression and alter port timing as well as size of ports especially exhaust port . I have not done this yet buy am planning to do so soon
These Are Beast Bike I Goon On These They Flip They are
good job you spent a shit ton of money on a little bike that goes 35 miles an hour
Landre Porter dose 50 stock probably 60 now
thats why he did not turn it on
plutoline 2 stroke gearbox oil
anyone wanting to see bike running just look at my other videos
ok thank i might get that for my birth day, its a little expensive
Holy shit
fire it up man
A vent hose and cap
you forgot the 200 tie wraps lol
Not heavily modded when it only goes like 40mph in his riding video
Looks like a jianshee.
It’s fake the front fender and front plastic should be connected
Almost four minutes long and you didn't even start the thing
PW80 Blue MX-Style Front Fender & Number Plate

COLINATORUK link?
here is a link for rev counter i use
its on ebay at £7.51 posted
item number : 221175476389
just paste number into ebay search bar
only catch with rev ocunter is there is a little bit of time lag but is ok when u rev it for a few secs constantly then back off throttle to see what rev it was
its ok for the price and u wrap lead wround spark plug wire simples
I wonder if those stickers were always that cringey or if that was okay 10 years ago
this is play toy I will get another MX bike in future used to have a Suzuki RM 125 but had a long term. injury hence i bought safer slow bike
Just be safe and have fun, but that play toy can surprise you, hell you can get loose on a pedal bike.
Lmao why are you breathing so hard?
Ha ha ha
C pas de Yamaha sa jte ldi
It's a py lol
