Memory is a weird thing. I have no clue why but something popped into my head just now. I couldn't quite remember the tune. For some reason I thought, is it the Lydia song from The Fisher King. Heck, I couldn't even remember if there was a Lydia sone in The Fisher King. So I looked it up and here I am. Memory is weird.
This brilliant movie came out before its time. Perfect cast-Robin Williams, Jeff Bridges, Mercedes Ruehl and Amanda Plummer. Beautifully directed by Terry Gilliam, no wonder it's made the Criterion Collection. I hope they add "Wag the Dog" to their gallery.
Oh Michael Jeter.... my favorite scene.... RIP... during the film, he said he'd lost all of his close friends, and he feels like a veteran.... I know the feeling....
I remember the first time I watched this movies, and when this scene came on, I swear I laughed so hard out my face hurt all day..Truly wonderful actor, and I loved him In *Forrest Gump* as well. I miss his sweet face. Xxx
So many people saying they don’t remember this scene in the movie - this is literally the only scene I DO remember from this film! One of my favorite scenes of any movie I’ve ever seen. I quote the Anne Morrow Lindbergh line way too often.
I watched this film yesterday, and when this scene came on, I was rolling on the ground with laughter, but very sad to hear of Michael Jeter's death RIP
He was a target of Gil Garcetti investigation of Mexican kiddie porn in 1994 along with other straight and Homosexual actors then OJ happened. Big time diddler from what was revealed.
If you look around, all the extras are smiling. I hope in my head that they all broke character, that they were all supposed to act shocked. I also think, that in a perfect world, this was shot in one take.
A stand out moment in a movie full of stand out moments! But Michael Jeter’s was so sad so profoundly wonderful ,while it could have easily slipped into slapdash silly little scene? But with his performance one full of the Broadway shows he’s done ,he shines through his scene here ,it’s one of the great scenes one Michael can be remembered for!
This is where most great character actors outshine many of the so-called A-listers today. Michael Jeter's acting was a big part of the change of heart in my life towards gay people. He was brilliant in the Green Mile, and thanks to his versatility, I found it hard to believe he was the same actor playing both parts. Thanks, Michael. I will seek out more of the movies you were in...
'it's a personalized message - i have to give it to her in person' right up there with, 'it's only an island if you look at it from the water' great scene - jeter at his all time best!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just discovered this marvelous slice of The Fisher King here after researching Michael Jeter, spurred by curiosity for his interesting and quirky performance in Sister Act 2. OMG!!! I have now watched this three times, it is fascinating, strange, weird, and wonderfully full of joy. Thank you criterioncollection for this upload.
I've done thousands of singing telegrams over 38 years and the pathos of his performance is simply hilarious when he drops the line in the elevator, " I'm Laura Lindberg and I can't find my baby!" I think I was the only person in the theater that heard it correctly and I cackled. I think there are also some videos you can find of his solo dance number in Grand Hotel on Broadway. R.I.P. good Sir. Those angels nabbed you far too soon
The Grand Hotel number is just stunning! I had NO idea mousy little Michael Jeter was such an astonishing actor! A true loss to have him leave us so soon.
He says, "I'm Anne Morrow Lindbergh..." not, "Laura". You heard it wrong, so I don't know why you're commenting on how you were the only person that heard it correctly.

This movie was incredibly underrated. Welcome to colinwood and the green mile were all the more better from his performance, he comes off so warm and human.
I like how the employees smiled at his performance ❤❤❤❤. I wished there was an applause because such a performance which makes everyone smile inspite of their mundane surroundings. Michael Jeter is a talent the world lost too soon. You still make us laugh even though even you went too fast.
My gosh. He was just so spectacular. Can we also mention the dye stains from the red fluffy dress trim on his underarms? It's an extra little bit of mania that I simply adore!!!
It's scenes like this that make me wonder if I pay attention at all during the movies I watch. I saw the Fisher King. And yet I don't remember a thing about this scene. Who are these people?! What's going on?! The good news is that I'm very easily entertained: I can watch the same movie 7 times, and it's like a new discovery again and again.
OMG. This scene never gets old. It's him asking if a "mousy woman named Lydia works here?" All the while Throwing shade with the tag still attached to that wig/dress that does it for me..ROTFL
Excellent actor, Michael Jeter, now compare to the actor of Bud Light. His best scene is the first scene that appears in this brilliant story and film. When he's found after being attacked in Central Park, and left for dead. I remember my jaw dropping when I saw it for the first time in Zaragoza Spain, in a front row seat. All of the actors shine like stars. I have no idea how didn't win multiple Academy awards. Difference being the trans agenda didn't exist back then. One thing is to be a gay man acting out being a flaming queen, another is playing into the present day agenda, and who knows how far will take it changing his body. So far keeps his male name.
How brilliant Michael Jeter was. What a loss 💔
I'm glad Jeter got a chance to have a moment like this.
I remember seeing this in the theater in 1991 and the packed audience burst into applause at the end. RIP Michael Jeter.
An applause well deserved ❤❤❤❤❤
when he says "i knew i can make you smile" you know he's saying that to bridges himself. he made him break character. a truly great performer
At another point, he quietly alludes to Jeff, the number of friends he has lost to AIDS, and it's searing, clearly Michael himself.
Loved loved LOVED Michael Jeter. Always will.
God bless Mr. Jeter. This scene is brilliant!
"You must,,,,,,be she." Love it!
Mr. Noodle! This song just popped up in my head and had to find it. Love and miss him dearly...
Memory is a weird thing. I have no clue why but something popped into my head just now. I couldn't quite remember the tune. For some reason I thought, is it the Lydia song from The Fisher King. One of the most naked performances by an actor ever. Fearless
Genialny film i genialna rola tego Aktora!!
My God, Jeter could sing his ass off
This is The Greatest Musical Number in am non-Musical Movie EVER. Michael Jeter had more talent in his little pinky...
I saw this for the first time recently and out of a great cast, Jeter left the biggest impression on me out of all.
Absolute genius. Gone far, far too soon. Bless…

Michael Jeter was in Forrest Gump? Who did he play?
AA,
Amazing scene here, but he wasn't in _Forrest Gump._
So many people saying they don’t remember this scene in the movie - this is literally the only scene I DO remember from this film! One of my favorite scenes of any movie I’ve ever seen. I quote the Anne Morrow Lindbergh line way too often.
I pity them!
I watched this last night, I was very surprised by his performance
"You must be she." That line gets me for some reason. Brilliant acting by a great scene stealer!
I watched this film yesterday, and when this scene came on, I was rolling on the ground with laughter, but very sad to hear of Michael Jeter's death RIP
theee best and most entertaining "rendition??" of EVERYTHING'S COMING UP ROSES I've ever seen. "and this time, for FREEEEE!"... R.I.P. Michael.
One of the best!! RIP Michael Jeter.
"I'm Anne Morrow Lindbergh...I can't find my baby." I came here specifically for that line.
the best line in the movie I love that line and his delivery was impeccable
He was a target of Gil Garcetti investigation of Mexican kiddie porn in 1994 along with other straight and Homosexual actors then OJ happened. Big time diddler from what was revealed.
Michael Jeter was a truly wonderful actor. I wish I could’ve met him ❤️
If you look around, all the extras are smiling. I hope in my head that they all broke character, that they were all supposed to act shocked. I also think, that in a perfect world, this was shot in one take.

he was so damn talanted, and completely adorable
'it's a personalized message - i have to give it to her in person'
right up there with, 'it's only an island if you look at it from the water'
great scene - jeter at his all time best!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is what I love about older films. There’s a lot of charm you don’t see in modern society
Lol if this is what counts as older to you, you have another 70 years worth of movies to discover
My absolute favorite scene of the movie!!!!!!!!!! How could they not clap???????? After the scene was over I’m sure they did!!!!!
Very much a Terry Gilliam film.
Absolutely. Especially with that many low-angle wide shots. Always love those :D

He sung this and went uncredited.what a man .
I just love Michael Jeter in this role. I HAd A DREAMMMM a dream for guess who LYDIAAAA! ❤❤❤Bravo!
My name is Lydia, and I couldn't stop laughing.😂😂😂
I want this as a ringtone
this is my favorite scene as far as voice acting goes. his range in this and other movies were truly amazing.
I've done thousands of singing telegrams over 38 years and the pathos of his performance is simply hilarious when he drops the line in the elevator, " I'm Laura Lindberg and I can't find my baby!" I cannot watch "Gypsy" or hear "Everything's Coming Up Roses" without thinking of THIS scene. Sincere thanks, Terry and Michael.
This is the most hilarious, cringy, magical, and spectacular moments in film.
should have been nominated for best supporting actor

"Our card." PITCH PERFECT DELIVERY!
I don't remember this episode of Elmo's world
agizzy23 Fact: It's a deleted scene from Elmo in Grouchland
Isnt this from the movie the fischer king? With robin williams and jeff bridges?
@@shortstuff2700 ......the title of the video literally says that. Do people not know what a joke is
I live for this. It’s my wake up call message.

Michael Jeter
August 26, 1952 - March 30, 2003
made my fckn day. what a movie
If you ever want to steal a scene in a movie, this is how you do it- what a performance ❤
This time for free 💃💃💃💃💃
God what a performance!
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
He is one of my favs from Waterworld though his role is secondary to Costner and Hopper.
when cinema was fun
The shirt the Mr. Bridges is wearing at the beginning of this scene, is also worn in the Big Lebowski.
My first movie to see him in was air bud. I was shocked years later when i realized it was the same guy lol
Как прекрасно сыграл и как женственно! he made my day!!!🤣 brilliant!
Michael Jeter. What a legend ❤❤ True broadway actor
oh, i fucking love this scene.
My gosh. He was just so spectacular. Can we also mention the dye stains from the red fluffy dress trim on his underarms? It's an extra little bit of mania that I simply adore!!!
Brilliant
It’s so weird seeing him in movies like this and The Green Mile as an adult because I grew up watching him as Mr. Noodle in Sesame Street as a kid 😂
I agree, I don't understand he was dressed like that in this movie SMH, and I too knew him as Mr. Noodle's brother Mr. Noodle
Goddammit... now I want Michael Jeter to play Rose in Gypsy, and it's never gonna fucking happen.
Best scene of the movie.
Brilliance
There are few scenes ever recorded where you can't imagine that they belong to an other actor ( think of Hannibal Lecter ) - AND this one!!
this guy has talent :D
It's scenes like this that make me wonder if I pay attention at all during the movies I watch. I saw the Fisher King. And yet I don't remember a thing about this scene. Who are these people?! What's going on?! The good news is that I'm very easily entertained: I can watch the same movie 7 times, and it's like a new discovery again and again.
you should probably go see a doctor about that
Masterpiece
Jack! I'm a man with a mission
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I can’t believe I’m on a first name basis with this people.
In a nutshell, that describes an uncounted fraction of the people I went to school with.
😂
I love this performance still!
This was the moment when my father was "seriously questioning your sexuality"etc etc.
Sad man.
Just amazing 😲😲😲
He had a memorable debut in Hair (1979) as a draftee with a pretty pedicure
You must be she best line ever 🤣🤣🤣
#bestdragqueenever
When i first saw this then it blew my mind like Farley doing the Chippendales.
legendary.
this scene had me dying 🤣🤣
The actor that played Elmo's World's Mr. Noodle when he sings for real.
DREAMS Do COME TRUE
OMG. This scene never gets old. It's him asking if a "mousy woman named Lydia works here?" All the while Throwing shade with the tag still attached to that wig/dress that does it for me..ROTFL
Is that the little dude who had the pet mouse in the green mile?
This guy is great I c him ...
nice shirt, Jeff :)
So Brilliant!❤
Got any Ethel Merman?

el mejor de todos los tiempos
"Jack, I'm a man with a mission."
Brilliant!! "You MUST be she..." 🤣🤣🤣
in a film with great stars i always thought Michael stole the film in this scene.
The Pretzel Gang brought me here
