Just read about this race in "The Greatest Gambling Story Ever Told" by Mark Paul. I had to come over to UA-cam and watch this race. Wow! What a show she put on. #girlpower #beattheboys
Gary did a good job of working with Winning Colors to let her show just how good she was. He obviously knew she was a special horse that would take them to the winner’s circle that day. Great race...👍
Coming right back off the Santa Anita Oaks score. Those fractions still give me goose bumps and against Ruhlman who later would hold the track record for mile at Santa Anita and Lively One who became a great four year old mixing it up with the likes of Alysheba. Ruhlman also a "buzz kill" when it came to knocking off Bayakoa a lady killer in her own right when she finished up the track in the Santa Anita Handicap.
Good points all! 5 eventual millionaires in there, ( 1current 2yr. old champ) Ruhlman was monster for Frankel, when he didn't wash out, saw him in person at SA & DM. Get this, my friend first takes me to the track, in 86, follow in 87, all the way to BC, where I saw and nailed Ferdinand/ Alysheba, followed that rivalry. Winning Colors in 88, funny got betable odds every time, but got jipped in the Derby. Then Sunday Silence / Easy Goer in 89 ! How could I not be hooked? Now, I go to Santa Anita, too many ways to bet, they screwed up the pick 6, short priced favorites or unfindable longshots. The odds change dramatically after the race starts. Saturday, my horse is 6, 7 , 8-1 the whole time, 6-1 getting in the gate, then ends up 3-1and wins, while the 2nd choice, went from 5-2 to 5-1, u k how much $ that takes to move the odds like that, on a big day? Can't make $ anymore, I like the "tweeners" to me 5 to 8-1 isn't a long shot.look what the exacta paid here! Anyways, wish I had someone to talk to about horse racing, that loves the horses too..❤️🙏👉🇺🇸👍
She beat the 2 yr. Old champ, 5 eventual millionaires, back when it meant something. 45: 3/5 1:09 2/5, and she's just cruising.. I always wonder what her career trajectory would have been, had she not run in the Derby, or shut it down after. (But how do you do that?) Same goes for Serena's Song. Best two 3 yr. Old fillies I ever saw, Olders have surpassed, but that's all, speed and class..

Would always watch the race replays on channel 56 (KDOC) Saturday nights with my dad as a kid. Such memories!

I just listened to the Snap Judgement podcast about this race and the gambling story
@@seanmcmonagle4012 same!
What a special horse, She had an extra gear that the boys did not. Stevens really connected with her, no question
One of his BEST calls!!!!

Channeling a little "Lady's Secret." Come and catch me if you can...the boys couldn't.
Nobody was gonna beat her that day, but our horse ( Flying Victor ) bled really bad…
I noticed how they bet him down from 20/1! Now they can't even use Lasix in stakes races. Cruel really..
That's how you use freakish speed to eliminate a field. Go fast and dare them to run you down.
Love this!
What a race call!!!
no kidding what a great post, have any al mamoon?
