  • Water for coffee can get pretty complex. Depending on who you talk to the subject can take you down a pretty deep rabbit hole -- which I find counter productive in most cases. There's a much simpler approach to ensuring you coffee is tasting its best and your equipment has the greatest possible longevity by filtering always and testing often.
    The water in coffee is the most important ingredient, however it is overlooked. And the effects can be devastating. Send me a message in the comments if you want to see what six pounds of calcium and lime deposit build up does to an espresso machine (and the bill that came with it.)
    As mentioned in the video, there's some fairly basic information from the Specialty Coffee Association that can direct you in coffee water chemistry solutions. You're espresso machine manufacturer or coffee tech should also have some resources available for you if what's provided below isn't enough.
