Paul Williams is the shit and definitely a star (then AND now). Despite what some people (*cough*) have to say about him, he’s laughing all the way to the bank. There’s a reason Daft Punk sought him out for their very own ‘swan song’. There’s a reason he’s the president of ASCAP and there’s a reason he was such a huge TV/movie personality in the 70s/80s--he’s that damn funny and talented. God bless him, we need more Paul Williams in life. My mission, Pinky, is to clone him and take over the world 😎✌🏼💕🌹😈
This guy's wit is unreal, i guess growing up with diminutive stature then you have to develop a personality that made him magnetic. That hard life forced his talents out
Thanks for the tip just watched it. Very bizzarre cultish film filled with elitist imagery like the black and white checkerboard floors, the YALE pennant in the Hollywood moguls office, the hinting at necrophilia with a dead child...etc etc.
Pretty sad world back in the day that shorter people were harassed and beat up over something they had no control over. Sometimes I'd like to go back in the past when things were simpler, the music was better, and future looked bright but not under those circumstances. Props to Paul for overcoming that bullshit.
I am a bit taller at 5 ft 7 and got picked on at school, I took up boxing and spent a lot of time in the gym. It didn't take long before people thought twice before picking on me.

He was an effective and successful songwriter, but calling him a "star" is kind of a stretch. He never had a hit as a singer, and his top selling album peaked at #95 on the charts (around the same time as this interview). He did manage to get a lot of acting roles for a year or two before that dried up too. One of those guys who were only suited for the early 1970's, and could never have made it any other time in history.
Maybe. Being a "star" as in musical performer and actor was kind of a side gig for him. He made stars. I think he's still making couple mill per year just off fans. He's a star to me.
@@cheayunju Maybe I am a critical, educated person? I dunno. I don't deny his awards and wealth, but when I think of "70's star", I think more of unstoppable hitmakers like Elton John or someone like that. Williams wrote about half a dozen songs that were hits for other people, which is an achievement. But by the end of the 70's he had become as obscure as Gilbert O'Sullivan. If people are personally offended that I don't call him a star, then go ahead and call him a star. As another 70's flash-in-the-pan wrote, "everybody's a star..."
Just because he wasn't successful as a singer dint mean he wasn't a star, he was on TV alot I remember back then and had many big hits as a songwriter, so he's a star.
Physically a little guy, but you'd have a difficult time comparing his GIANT MUSICAL SONGWRITING GENIUS over the past 40 - 50 years, PERIOD! 🎶🎼🎧🎹
Indeed!
Gifted songwriter
Paul Williams was a true genius. And he set the tone for the 70's.

Loved the documentary -- Paul Williams: Still Alive
This guy's wit is unreal, i guess growing up with diminutive stature then you have to develop a personality that made him magnetic. That hard life forced his talents out
Well said!
Imagine going on a talk show to get made fun of for 10 minutes and get your therapist’s diagnosis read to the world.
Never realized he had comic chops
Love this dude
I hate how they treated him with no respect. Very rude. Shame on them both.😪
Here, after seeing him in the lineup, taking pictures at the 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Paul Williams = Great talent. - everybody, please watch "The Loved One" (1965) for a wonderful movie with young Williams in its all star cast.
Dang, I'll check that out

Paul wrote a song I've always liked (Nice to be Around) from a movie I've always liked (Cinderella Liberty).
Some song! Awesome

I worked for PW . He’s barely over 5’. This interview is insulting.

This show is like a template for an SCTV parody.
milky bar kid xx
Was that the dude in smokey and the bandit
Yes
Wow 😂
Is that a young Bryant Gumble on the left?
You make a great observation. Though I think that if it is a Gumble then it's the brother.
That IS indeed Bryant Gumble
He mentioned Freddie prinze :-(
Freddie was a good friend of Paul's. In fact, they used to tour together in the 70's
Guy looks like the product of a casual meeting between a yeti and an ewok after having a wax.

Paul Williams is an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winning Hall of Fame songwriter. His music is still remembered today.
Hol' up. Why you listening to Paul Williams in such a critical, educated mindset? What's really going on brutha?
