    I agree with all this except for doing the hard questions last. I have always went to the most complex questions first. You are fully rested and getting 1 or 2 of the hard questions done first really sets you on a feeling good path.

    My number one tip, purchase two copies of the physical version of the supplement for the test you are studying for. Use one to study and take notes in, and the other for any practice tests. Live inside that book during ground school and the subsequent study sessions. It is identical to the supplement you will get on the day of the test. For the PPL Take the time to look at the charts and ask your CFI if you have any questions about any of the samples in the book. There is only one page with any VOR indicators in the book learn exactly what each of them mean. The more you know that supplement the easier your test will be.

    I took my written yesterday and I was able to finish all of the questions within like 40ish minutes and with 50 or so more minutes I then I started checking my answers when the facility lost power all of a sudden, it was a citywide outage. We were all then held captive with nothing to do but just sit in the lobby for an hour when the power finally came back on. But then they couldn't get the wifi to boot back up so they ended up sending everyone home and we all had to reschedule to take it all over again. Since I was already done, I was hoping they could just submit it but I guess that wasn't the case. Sort of a bummer, but the bright side is now I get to study more and hopefully get a better score than I probably would've gotten this time.

    There's no secret. Just study the info, and take some practice tests... and you will do fine. BUT... you are right... don't wait. My advice is to get your medical first. If you pass that... then take your written after that !!!!!! It takes time, and like you said, you will put your flying on hold for it. SO... pass it BEFORE you eave start to fly. That way, you don't have to learn what is on the written test (Rules, laws, procedures) while also trying to fly where it's expensive. Every minute your CFI has to talk to you about the basics while in the plane... the less you get to fly, and the more it cost.

    Jason, I appreciate all you do for aviation and helping upcoming, not current, or current pilots. Your passion and energy jump off the screen during your presentations.
    As a Private Pilot and A&P, my best advice is to study, ask questions, listen, and learn. Along with your videos, everyone should read what @ jvtaylor3 stated in his comments. @jvtaylor3 nails it, "live inside the books, during ground school."
    For myself, I make tons of notes in the study guide/material. To include, I black out (black grease pencil/crayon) all the incorrect answers. Another tip for the A&P General, there are tons of math problems. My daughter reminded me about PEMDAS -- look it up; it'll help you with the math sequence.
    Jason, THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge, skills, and passion.

    I took my PPL knowledge test before I ever got into a cockpit. That has advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage: it's done and out of the way. The biggest disadvantage: No real flying experience to use to visualize the scenarios, so it's ALL theory. I did okay, but plan to re-take the test now that I've got some actual flying time under my wings.

      @@Nolonge111 a couple of reasons. First, the test expires; it's been that long since I took it the first time. Second, people have been known to retake the test solely to up their score on the test. The DPE has the test scores, and they HAMMER on anything you got wrong on the test. If you can get 100% on the test, the hammering is less.

    • @Nolonge111
      @Nolonge111 Рік тому

      @@ipattorneyfirm1
      If it's because it expires then that's ok, but to retake it to please the DPE is stupid because you can score a 100 percent on the written knowledge and still fail the check ride.

    • @ipattorneyfirm1
      @ipattorneyfirm1 Рік тому

      @@Nolonge111 of course you can ... it's always possible to fail the practical while excelling at the theoretical. Me, I can't apply math to anything, but I love math theory. But the reason for taking the knowledge test over again with a B/B+ score on the original is that the DPE hammers on the points you miss on the knowledge test (and yes, they have access to that information through IACRA); taking the knowledge test over and scoring (much) higher the second time around substitutes a light peen hammer for the 10-pound sledge going into a check ride with that B/B+ score gives them.

    I somewhat disagree with the part about rote memorization. Here’s the thing, if you have good knowledge AND THEN rote memorize, you can easily get a 100. For IR and up, Shepard air will allow you to rote memorize. Its to objectively get a good grade. Then you can ACTUALLY learn the material for the oral. Not to mention some of the questions are graded wrong, and Shepard air highlights which questions do this. You will need to be aware of these incorrect questions. But rote does not work for everyone, or make you a good pilot. It is simply to get a good grade!

    • @victorfinberg8595
      @victorfinberg8595 2 роки тому

      of course you have to rote memorize, and a lot. but that just gets you onto the playing field, and lets you understand the questions, it won't answer any of the physics questions (10%), or any of the calculation questions (10%), and there are many other questions that require an understanding of the systems, and thinking about them.

      ok, looking at the comments below, i will add to my post. the reason i came here has to do with the claim that flat earthers might be pilots.
      you don't even want to imagine how many trolls attack the flat earth debunking channels.
      but the whole internet is infested with trolls. even here, i find several trolls who are claiming "just memorize"
      that's pure nonsense, but trolls will be trolls.
      my suggestion is, just ignore them; don't let them get you down. if this was my channel, i might even kick them off for posting dangerous nonsense.
      and while flat earth trolls post dangerous nonsense, if pilots are allowed to go up in the air without truly understanding how the thing works, etc., etc., then we are looking at something truly scary.
