The police must have been “unfamiliar with gravity.” I laughed out loud. Dr. Grande always inserts his great, dry wit into his case analysis making them all the more interesting and enjoyable.
Glad you covered Ben Novak's case. Sad. I went to PineCrest Preparatory School for High School with Ben. He was known as "the AV Geeky Guy." He was in charge of having all audio-visual equipment to classrooms, & on call for repairing it, when needed. He was very strange & a loner even then. I felt bad for him.
If this was a movie, I wouldn't believe that real people could behave this way or that such self destructive and base motivations could structure their lives, particularly since Ben, at least, could have chosen many alternatives. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

It's morning here and due to the hurricane weather in Germany I have a day off from work hence I finally can watch this Dr Grande video in a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks for making my morning better❣By the way: I wish all of you a great day❣😘❤
I remember dateline or one of those shows did a episode on this and I felt bad for her daughter, May. She was interviewed for the program and she was a normal young woman with the misfortune of being raised by a narcissist mother. She cared about Ben a lot and they were close so it was a hard loss for her.
Wow... The part at the end where he said "she developed a plan to have Ben's money, without the inconvenience of having Ben" stuck with me. She was a predator. Meanwhile he only wanted her for sex and secured another source so no longer had use for her. Two narcissists together will always wind up killing one another.
Ummm erm, I was with you until the end but what!? Two narcissists always end up *killing* one another?? On what basis do you say this? You know there are way way less murders than there are pairs of narcissists, so just math cannot add up. In any case, since you said always only one counter example can prove this wrong and I know at least one pair that haven’t killed each other. And can think of some who haven’t killed each other yet for several decades. You may want to try to make your points without bizarre levels of hyperbole. Unless you actually think in this irrational manner which I hope not.
it was a good line but heres the truth of it: everybody's a predator, if you take the word apart, to plan or intend ahead of time to get whatever. so its to manipulate. to intend. "my minister saw i would be a good congregant, generous with myself and money, and went out of his way to make me want to pick his church" . so, i think you would have to actually take the word apart and alot a definition to two parts of the word to get the least judgemental meaning.
Every person I have known who was left handed and forced to "be" right handed as a child developed stuttering and extreme unpleasantness. One boy (his school was forcing the change) had a complete change in personality and stopped stuttering when a doctor discovered the problem and his parents put a stop to it. Everything about him improved. It was common then for teachers to force left handed students to "be" right handed. Glad that was stopped.
I knew a few people (mainly relatives) who were born in the 40’s/50’s/60’s & are left handed, but were forced to write right handed at school. None of them had stutters or had personality changes. Though I do agree we shouldn’t force people to use their right hand if the left is more comfortable, there’s just no good reason to.
It's unnerving how much the fears of abandonment & being alone can make someone disregard their own safety. Ben's upbringing clearly left him with problems with low self-esteem.
I worked at the hotel during this time period. The hotel was in decline. Fewer famous people were performing there. I occasionally had to go to Ben jr apartment, for various reasons. I found him to be paranoid and over zealous about security issues. He had a body guard. I suspected drugs may have been an issue. He was detached about the running of the hotel. It's no wonder his father sold his legacy.
Do you recall Ben Sr. was the first to put a black person, a woman at the front desk. I believe her name was Dean Swain, she was a very tall striking attractive woman and would eventually marry a European and I think settled there. She had a sister that also worked at the hotel whose name don't recall but she was there for many years. I was a kid of 12 when I first stayed there but spent a lot of time at the hotel during the next ten years. Do you recall Walter the elevator operated, a pale-skinned gray-haired Cuban man who had worked at the hotel from the day it opened which he had been very proud of.
When do you sleep, Dr. Grande?!?? Don’t get me wrong, I love scrolling through my feed at 1 a.m. with nothing new to watch and seeing that you uploaded a video in the middle of the night. Keep it up (but also take the time to care for yourself) ☺️
Congratulations Dr Grande 🎉👍 i have watched a few documentaries and i like the way you conduct them with evidence, this is a very tragic story for this family, i can not beleive how lucky was Narcy and her daughter to find this super rich man who came from a healthy family, what is more disturbing for me is the fact that Ben make a bad choise in taken that woman as wife, I believe 💯per cent she was with him for his 💰she killed his mum 😢 she has a bad heart a cruel woman i only hope she stay forever in prison and that Justice is serve, i hope his fortune is taken by the Novack family, i am really ashamed to know Narcy was from Ecuador, i am from the same country and when i learn about this i was so sad as i know they were capable of doing this for money, her brother is guilty i hope they pay for what they did, they are bad human beings they dont deserve to be in this world, Her daughter was against her mum only for one purpose the money and greed, i dont think they had any feelings for Ben, They just wanted the money and a life of luxury, hopefully justice is serve, rest in peace Ben x
I feel pretty bad about myself but I can’t stop laughing at some of the horrendous murders you analyze. I hope it is all in the delivery or I might be in trouble.
Why do you feel bad about yourself? Try to focus on the good things you have. List all the good things in your life. Then list all the actual bad things. You’ll probably see the bad things list pales in comparison. You’ll probably add more and more good things to the good list as you think about this more.
@@Traderjoe This was such a kind comment. Honestly, I would put myself in the “good” category for watching and enjoying Dr. G’s content. He has helped me understand dark psychologies while making it palatable with wry humor.
I believe that Narcys daughter, May, is who informed the police. Ben was very nice to May, and she hated her mother for killing him. Ben Novack Jrs will which was probated provided that if Ben's mother did not survive, Ben's estate would go to his wife Narcy. If neither his mother nor his wife survived him, then Narcy's daughter would receive $150,000, and the residue of the estate would be held in trust for Narcy's two grandsons.
Dr. Grande, I know and appreciate that it’s been said many times before but I would like to say it myself, I appreciate how you are so impartial in all of your case analysis
I'm really loving these nocturnal uploads, Dr. Grande. Great for us Night Owls. This was a bizarre case, from start to finish. Your heart attack theory was so funny! You were on fire with the jokes tonight! I had to keep rewinding it, I was laughing so much! 🤣 Sad story, though. Two narcs are never OK in a relationship. Thanks, Dr. Grande.
So true. Hard for me to find sympathy for these types anymore😑Cause so much destruction. I do admit I don't find these til the AM or lunch as busy, but still find them lol!!😉
Hi Zena! 🖐I just wrote a reply to you, and it disappeared. Strange. Yeah, I didn't have much sympathy with these two, either. I hope I don't become a 👻. 😘😍🥰💚💙💛
Another nice video Dr G. Strangely I'm now left wondering who owns the 'largest' collection of Batman memorabilia, and what body keeps track of Batman-related statistics.
Doctor Grande, wonderful as usual. I really enjoy it when you include photos of the people and events. If possible would love to see more included in the future.
I always learn something valuable from your vids, Dr.G. We are mysteries to ourselves, and while I hope to never be featured on a true crime video I sure see how these sad stories reflect us all. You rock, Doc⛅️
Doc I had the best morning- raining outside, sipping my coffee and listening to another great and very entertaining analysis. This story was nuts! Makes me feel better about not being filthy rich. Hey quick question: will you do a live stream sometime? So we can all ask you uncomfortable and personal questions?! Joking aside, I think many of your fans would love an opportunity to ask you questions and learn more about the man and his undying capacity for quality content!!!!
I adore the way you dumb down the geography for a non-USAian like myself it's greatly appreciated. How onto it were Narcy's parents naming her after the cluster b trait that defines her so well
What a weird story... Do you actually sleep, Dr. Grande? I mean, you produce so many good vids so frequently... I really enjoy your channel. And much more entertaining than the 2nd largest Batman memorabilia collection. :)
The giant convicted felon heart…😂😂😂 In all seriousness, Narcy’s callousness is boundless. The murder was horrendous, in addition to it, she didn’t even spare her own daughter! Thank you for the analysis Dr. Grande, and for the great video you just uploaded on Patreon.❤️
Imagine staying with someone who you know may kill you, and in fact had you tied up and robbed, because you enjoy the sex! Sex is great, but you aren't getting ANY if you're dead!
Wow! Having his eyes gouged out IS VERY unsettling. There was literally no need to do that but it was done anyway. Sick minded regardless of who did it etc they are obviously psychopath
I love Dr. Grande and his entire channel! He's provided a genre we need on UA-cam and more importantly, Dr. Grande is one of the few who are actually qualified to discuss cases in the way he does. Thanks for the informative content, Dr. Grande - please keep it up!
Some of these cases make me 🤔 wonder, where do these investigator's get training. It's actually funny yet deplorable at the same time. Love 💘 when you point it all out 😜
I feel so sad about his mum. Ben knew this may come for him, he chose not to do anything when it was the right moment, but that poor old woman, she may have not been a perfect mum, but who is one anyway?
Does anyone else thumbs up Dr Grande's videos when you're only about 1/4 of the way into the video because you already know it's going to be great!? Lol, I do this all the time with his videos 🌟
Haha love it! You are so funny, and the cops not understanding gravity cracked me up! Don't get me wrong; it's so sad these 2 people were murdered. But your delivery is priceless!
"Was Ben Novack, Jr. a Bear?": Once an anthropologist and his informant visited a cave in California. The site was an ancient site governed by ritual guardians. The anthropologist asked his informant, "What's the drawing on the wall?" and Hector said it's the picture of a bear during a hunt. "Oh, I thought it might be a man hunting a bear?" The informant said, "Bear or man, it's the same." This statement is revealed here in the case of Ben Novack Jr. Ben was hunted by his wife and her friends. Or was he hunting for a wife and a good time? It's actually the same. This is why "murder" in the legal system always misses the point of killing. Yes, of course, now that we're all "civilized" we can use the term "murder." But what's actually happening, always and already, now as I write this, is the hunt, the eternal hunt. Mankind tries to live beyond the hunt but constantly fails. We are still living in prehistoric times. History is only a drawing on a cave wall. Thank you for reading.
Hearing about his upbringing, and how the family pronounces the name of the hotel, I thought Novack would be the killer. It also seems a lot of those that kill and are criminals were/are interested in cop work. I like the plot twist here.
I stayed at the hotel often and had loads of friends that would have school holidays and head down to the resort. Ben would have been welcome to hand out with us, he was my age, but he wanted to hang out with the security team and walk around with a walkie talkie. I was probably the only one of my friends that spoke with him and he was very brief in replying. Ben playing security guard, wasn't nice to us kids, but if one went out there way as I did to humanize him and say hello and speak to him once in a while, he was withing range of being normally mannered. As I indicated in a comment I saw him last perhaps in the 1990s or 2000. He was talkative and friendly the last time I saw him, as if we had been friends back in the day. I did inform him that my family friend's brother Louis had been his good friend in adulthood sometime after the hotel had closed, in his own right he had made friends with Ben and had mentored him (he was much older than me hence much older than Ben). That friendship waned and ceased because Ben was treating people when they were out will less than proper manners. Ben looked great the last time I saw him, he had not been attractive whatsoever as kid, but had grown into his looks, carried himself far better, and was sweet. Poor guy, had such a terrible ending and that woman is a witch. Ben obviously was into very weird stuff but with that said, he struck me as a guy that couldn't find a place for himself. The stepdaughter, after reading the story, it seems has a strong bond to him and not her mom so I hope that made him happy.
@@mileshalpern9320 Miles, you sound like such a kind and sweet person. Your comment really impressed me and makes me happy that people like you exist. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I’m convinced you are probably already working on this one. But just in case…requesting a video about the ROC figure skating doping scandal that just had its tragic conclusion? Would be fascinated to hear your take on it!

I can just imagine Dr Grande saying "..ooonly speculating on what could be happening.." when trying to get to the bottom of which of his kids masterminded the latest caper
It's always deeply disturbing learing about people who are capable of such pure evil! Hearing about these truly dark crimes, I'm always thankful for your subtle sense of humor...."Marci is practically Sherlock Holmes, the master of observation." 😆 And when you said "....and then I guess, repeatedly fell throughout the house...." made me feel so guilty for laughing, but hearing you say that just made me inappropriately laugh a little bit too much.... ;D ♡♡
I think these videos could really benefit from a slow zoom that lasts the entire duration of the video until the only thing in the frame is dr. Grandes powerful moustache
It’s so funny how many PhDs get an education in psychology in New England or somewhere with good education and then come to Florida where there’s an over abundance of crazy people and abnormal behavior 😂 we appreciate you!
Ithe Fountainbleu Hotel was high end. I wished we could afford it . I could not imagine growing up normal living there. Miami was about vacationing ..entertainment...sort of like Las Vegas . Kid needed normalcy not glitz not to mention women sunbathing by the pool must have been huge temptation.
That’s interesting that “Fontaine bleu” is pronounced like “fountain blue”! There is a place where I live called “belle Fontaine”, which locals pronounce as “bell fahn-TAYN” Which I know isn’t correct French pronunciation, but it’s more like a phonetic reading according to English rules Edit: there’s also a town nearby called Versailles, pronounced “ver-SAILS” here, which I find both sensible & hilarious 😂
That was a great analysis. And I love your humor, it made me LOL. Though the story was very sad and disturbing, but thank you for the video. At least now she's locked up and she will not use her homicidal Tendencies and anyone else.
I knew Ben albeit not well. He was lost as a teenager but when I saw him last he appeared to be happy. We spoke briefly, and he seemed fine, asking me questions not merely speaking of himself. We were not friends when were young, but he knew me and I knew him as I was at the hotel constantly for a few years when my dad was making a lot of money, additionally and coincidentally, a close friend of my family had a brother who would later be a close friend of Ben's but broke off the friendship because Ben was not well mannered when they were in public. The man I am speaking of was very heavy and he and Ben would travel South Florida eating at different establishments but Ben became unbearable ad he wasn't nice to waiters and others. He wasn't a bad guy as I recall, and I later recall being told by our family friend, and thought when I saw him last probably around `1998, but what a tough life the prince of the Fontainebleau turned out to have. I dreamed of being Ben Novak's son. What a blessing that I had my dad who was a character but a decent man and devoted family man. I read somewhere along the line that Ben's father, Ben Sr. had adopted a child with his first wife and once divorced had little to do with the child who would wind up living homeless and apparently quite mentally ill. Not sure if this story was true, I read it along time ago.
Narcy, Nancy, Ben. Ben...Note to self destroy any evidence (receipts) connected to my crime. My knowledge grows with every one of your Analyses I view. Not to mention my amusement at your humor you throw in. You are Never Boring, Dr. Grande. (Carlie Bruschia/Sheila Bellush) 👌
I knew Ben but not well. I remember him running around the security team driving the kids my age (his age) a bit crazy. I was at the hotel a lot during those years and would go out of my way to speak to everyone, including the security team and Ben Jr. Ben spoke very briefly when I spoke to him, borderline polite and aloof. I asked the security guards that I got to know although not well because they knew me and I knew them from staying at the hotel and at least as I recall the head of security kind of admitted to me Ben was an unwelcome addition to the staff. I don't remember the man's name, a short Italian looking fellow was in charge of security, technically Ben's boss. Independently, a close family friend of my family had a much older brother named Louis who had move to Florida full time, Louis much older than our age group yet coincidentally, Louis and Ben met somehow,, became friends. I am guessing this was in the late '1970s early 80s--I don't recall but the hotel had already been sold. The friendship lasted for quite some time, Louis was a mentor to Ben of sorts. Louis warned Ben that he had to behave properly when the two of them went out to eat *Louis was a very overweight guy and loved to eat," and finally he told Ben he wouldn't have anything to do with him for any activity because Ben would not act like a normal grown adult. Ben had to have been at least in his twenties at that point. The last time I saw Ben was on Arthur Godfrey Road as I was heading toward the Asti's restaurant. Ben was off the curb a little distance away and I called out to him. He remembered me by face, and I mentioned that I knew Louis and what an odd coincidence it was that he wound up friends with Louis. (I did not mention that I knew the friendship had not ended well.) Ben looked happy for the first time , he was with a group of people all elegantly dressed, yet he was very talkative as if he wanted to start up a friendship, as if we had been friends in the Fontainebleau days. I was with my father and mother, both were elderly and were calling to me to "come on, let's go in to the restaurant," and I said goodbye. I am always willing to make new friends but I lived in the north and when with elderly parents that are hungry, one is not free to spend time socializing. I do recall in that conversation having asked Ben if he was still working for the police department indicating I was aware that he did, and I'm not sure if he told me he was still with them or he told me he was in another business. I think he told me he left the department. I was saddened to hear that he was dead; then to hear it was a murder by his own wife. He had struck me as very insecure and lost when we were kids 13 and up, and later as still insecure but happier. Oddly enough, during the Fontainebleau years, my friends and as upper-middle class youth I felt like we owned the place even though we were on repeated vacations with our families and later by ourselves if we could swing the cost, or we would all meet up there in later years yet Ben seemed uncomfortable within his own skin. I was favorable impressed the last time I saw him in that he seemed well. Hie had had acne when he was young which had turned into a healthy looking glow. He had become a nice enough looking man, which he was not as a child. told him how good he looked and impressed upon him that he looked wonderful and healthy. May he rest in peace. The kid I first became aware of in December 1969, the prince of the place I loved to be most in the world, had a life that was far more difficult than mine which was quite easy by comparison. I don't recall his stuttering but as I said, he did not speak a lot in the early days perhaps to cover it. The last time I saw him, as I recall there was no stutter. Dr. Grande in essence the wrong picture of the hotel. The Fontainebleau back in the day was a single curved building and by 1960 a second building was erected on the Eden Roc side, blocking the winter sunlight from the Eden Roc pool. In about 1969, the Sorrento Hotel on the other side was purchased, added onto and refaced a bit on one side, the building collapsed and was finished as I recall by the time I got there in Dec 1969. The building shown in this video was built decades later. The original building (s) should have been shown because it's part of an iconic history. What was accurate was the picture of Ben which is exactly the way the security department desk was in those days. I could recognize every part of that hotel in the dark. It was a palace and I loved it, spending endless hours roaming it . I happened to be at the hotel as it was literally changing hands. Guards were everywhere to ensure the hotel would not be looted. I recall this being about 1978 or 79, but I also recall shortly after although the dates are blurry, being mortified that the place was suddenly a Hilton Hotel with a tacky escalator in the middle of the lobby. I would stay at the hotel a few times in the 1990s when I could get a reasonable price on the room. The hotel needed a lot of work. Then it underwent a nice renovation, yet not long after, the entire place was redone again, that renovation is in place today. When this last rounds of changes to the hotel occurred, it was remade into a luxury hotel as it had been essentially always but Florida properties need constant updates which it would appear the hotel now gets. The lower lobby is gone, and the place is much different. I no longer have an attachment to the place. In recent years, I stay at the hotel formerly known as the Doral Hotel which has gone by various different names for several decades., the last of which was "Miami Beach Resort." It was a luxury hotel competing with the Fontainebleau back in the day. In fact, the Doral had been the Fontainebleau's only rival for top spot in the late 1960s and I think surpassed it for a time. I heard that the hotel once known as the Doral of which I am speaking, has been closed for a couple of years and I hope it will reopen. Even run down a bit, it was a beautiful hotel. Not to be confused with the Doral Golf resort which I believe Trump has been involved with. The Doral Hotel and Doral Country Club separated many decades ago, the hotel eventually giving up the name. I am not a young man, my tastes reflect same. The Fontainebleau although "fancy," does not compare to the Golden Age of Miami Beach that I recall the tail end of as a child. What great memories; to think Ben wound up in the worst possible situation is extremely disturbing.

Just a reminder I’m not diagnosing anyone in this video, just speculating about what might be happening…” What a let down.

"my minister saw i would be a good congregant, generous with myself and money, and went out of his way to make me want to pick his church" . so, i think you would have to actually take the word apart and alot a definition to two parts of the word to get the least judgemental meaning.
Not good ending for sure!😖😒
Nuns and Christian brothers were f****rs for this in Ireland up to the 70s!!
Well done Dr.Grande. Love your shirt. Thank you for this new video. I swear your saving my sanity tonight. My mind won’t quit!!! Great distraction.

Poor Ben. Feel so badly for him. Thanks for a great video, Dr. Grande.🌵❤
@@mileshalpern9320 miles that is a fine anecdote, just marvelous
When do you sleep, Dr. Grande?!?? Don’t get me wrong, I love scrolling through my feed at 1 a.m. with nothing new to watch and seeing that you uploaded a video in the middle of the night. Keep it up (but also take the time to care for yourself) ☺️

i have watched a few documentaries and i like the way you conduct them with evidence, this is a very tragic story for this family, i can not beleive how lucky was Narcy and her daughter to find this super rich man who came from a healthy family, what is more disturbing for me is the fact that Ben make a bad choise in taken that woman as wife, I believe 💯per cent she was with him for his 💰she killed his mum 😢 she has a bad heart a cruel woman i only hope she stay forever in prison and that Justice is serve, i hope his fortune is taken by the Novack family, i am really ashamed to know Narcy was from Ecuador, i am from the same country and when i learn about this i was so sad as i know they were capable of doing this for money, her brother is guilty i hope they pay for what they did, they are bad human beings they dont deserve to be in this world, Her daughter was against her mum only for one purpose the money and greed, i dont think they had any feelings for Ben,
They just wanted the money and a life of luxury, hopefully justice is serve, rest in peace Ben x
@@Traderjoe I think they may have meant they felt bad about themselves for laughing not necessarily about themselves in general.
I laughed during parts of this video, too, Catherine. Now you're making me wonder if I might be in trouble, too. Wouldn't be the first time. 🤫

It makes me wonder if all that counseling, talking to so many people with so many problems, helped make the good doctor even handed!

@Benjamin David Lurie is the one in yours?

Dr. Grande's voice would be great for ASMR videos! ✨
That’s interesting that “Fontaine bleu” is pronounced like “fountain blue”! There is a place where I live called “belle Fontaine”, which locals pronounce as “bell fahn-TAYN”
Which I know isn’t correct French pronunciation, but it’s more like a phonetic reading according to English rules
Edit: there’s also a town nearby called Versailles, pronounced “ver-SAILS” here, which I find both sensible & hilarious 😂
That was a great analysis. And I love your humor, it made me LOL. Though the story was very sad and disturbing, but thank you for the video. At least now she's locked up and she will not use her homicidal Tendencies and anyone else.
Ben didn't suspect her of his mother's death??? That would have been the first idea in my mind.
Narcy is short for Narcisa. The name says it all!
I was hoping he would review this case, i think it's interesting haha
I love you Dr. Grande!!!!!!
I always love your sarcasm Dr😂😂😂
