    I love how you explain it, better then my teacher at least. The method you are using, 100% + Market percentage = Sum. Price/ by Sum is your answer. How easier could it be! What I also love is your pen, what type of pen are they? Those are some fine tips alright!

    Hello, I have a question as to why a 35% markup yields a 26% profit margin.
    How do I adjust the calculation to ensure the needed profit margin percentage of 35% is reached?
    Thank you,
    $5.00
    $3.70 5.00/1.35 35%
    (5-3.70)/5.00 26%

    Easy way to do it: You do the selling price divided by 1.)the percent of markup) so for this problem, you can do 142/1.35 since the increase is 35% and end up with the same answer

  • @belalayman7935
    @belalayman7935 5 років тому +5

    a simpler way is 142/1.35. where is the 1.35? 100% + 35% = 135%. 135%= 1.35. and the selling price is 142. but why did I divide 142 by 1.35? well, we already know that 142 is the selling price but what if I told you that the 135% is also the selling price percent. yes selling price= cost+markup. cost is 100% and markup is 35% add them together and you get the selling price percent. so divide selling price by the selling price percent and you get the answer

    So I’m absolutely crap when it comes to numbers so could you just explain to me how companies can for example sell a product at a marked up price if if £170 that’s what they say the product is worth but then selling with 85%discount at £25 it doesn’t make sense to me! Are the products actually worth £175 if they are how can they be making money selling them for £25 but if they did not cost £175 to make how can they claim that they are worth that amount! Hope this isn’t confusing but would love it if you could explain it to me as best you can!

    • @MathematicsTutor
      @MathematicsTutor  7 років тому +2

      That is how retailers make profit. They may buy something for 100 and sell for 235.
      Percent is calculated based on purchase price in this case. Hope that is clear.
