I proposed to my wife in Newport, 4years ago. we have been living aboard a islander 32 for the past 3years crusing the bay. and have just purchased a Gulfstar 43. We love the crusing life and look forword to many new adventures. Your videos help inspire us and help us through the winters. Thank you Drake & Mo
mustangjaime77 :) Thank you! That's wonderful to hear! Ahoy from Drake and Mo aboard Paragon anchored off the south coast of Ireland. Congratulations on your new boat. Hope to see you in the same anchorage someday.
Hey, go easy on Mo everyone! (edit -- and Drake). She's a sweetheart and a total trooper! She's as real as it gets and so is Drake and you can tell they love each other.
Drake, your channel keeps getting better. One of these days you need to give us a walk-through of your foredeck storage area (under the dinghy). It looks like an incredibly efficient use of space.
Jerrid Stottlemyre Thanks Jerrid - It is pretty convenient to have that locker there on the bow. We keep our snubber, our jack lines, and our saltwater wash down hose in it. It's made of wood that was covered with a thin coating of epoxy saturated fiberglass cloth and then painted.
John Ahern Thanks John! I just spent much of the day going to several different coffee shops, restaurants and hotels in Dingle, Ireland looking for wifi fast enough to upload our next video. The fastest connection I've found so far says that it could complete uploading the 2 gig video in on 18 days... :( The search continues!
Subway Sailor Jorge we just sailed from Kinsale to Sherkin Island to Crookhaven - it's great to be underway again! I hope you have a fantastic beyond belief season of sailing No8do. Step by step - please stay safe! Looking forward to rafting up someday. If you see Dahlke please say hi from Drake and Mo! When are you coming to visit us on Paragon next? :)
I wish I had started watching your videos earlier I might have caught you in Newport. My wife and I have been binge watching your channel. We really like what you are doing and wish you the best.
Karate Mayhem Thanks and we're glad you guys are enjoying the videos. I certainly encourage binge watching! (✿◠‿◠) I'd love to go back to Newport and do more exploring. There is just never enough time to spend in all the cool places, eh?
Love he videos of your adventures. It seems it would be a lot more comfortable in the dinghy if only it had side bench seats, that tiller really looks awkward most times resting on your neck. Kudos to Monique for her new sailing skills.
You can tell Drake hasn't had much experience being around women. Mo was giving him "those looks" and he just kept right on going. Be careful my friend, he who knows not and knows not he knows not is doomed! ;) Love the vids!!!
Parrot Sailor We just got a 15 horsepower 4 stroke Honda outboard for our 10 foot RIB and plan to use it to explore the Faroe Islands in particular this Summer.
Another great video. So great to hear from you. Tell me, what do you think of a Cabo Rico 38?... Better to look for a Westsail 42 or other larger full keel boat? Where are you now? Safe travels, John
ClanOfStonemasons Hi John, we're currently spending May - October sailing up the west coasts of Ireland and Scotland, then on to the Faroe Islands, and from there possibly on to Norway or back down to Scotland or Ireland to spend the winter. I've heard that the Cabo Rico it is a very highly regarded sailboat, but I've never sailed one and am unfamiliar with the design.
i disagree! the title says the REAL cruising life. It's not always sunshine and whiskey! I'm glad there really is a REAL cruising life to show the challenges people face while cruising... Good work imho
Drake have you seen the vid of Captain AJ Smith. He ran into one of the Volvo 65 boats off the coast of the US. It was the Chinese boat Dong Feng. He spoke with them over the radio. It was really cool. Check out his UA-cam page.
You compared this dinghy to a walker bay - did you have a walker bay 8 or 10ft sailing dinghy? I was actually looking at getting the RID 310, which is the same as the 10ft rigid but comes with the inflatable attachments.
Great videos guys thanks for sharing. I checked other comments and see that nobody has asked about the size or make of the dinghy. So if you wouldn't mind......? fairwinds
+John Chevalier Hi John, Thanks for the comment. I really wish I knew. We found our sailing/rowing dinghy in a used marine consignment store and it has no brand markings or hull ID on it. It's made of fiberglass and I wonder if it was home made. I suspect that it might be pretty old. It's about 9 feet long. I think it's similar to a Fatty Knees dinghy. www.fattyknees.com In Episode #34 "Nautical Shopping" Monique and I are checking out another really nice rowing/sailing dinghy at the marine consignment store in Newport, RI.
Drake, you gotta know how to read Mo's look and learn the great lesson of "when mama's happy everyone is happy". Now you may be the type of guy that needs to go over the road before the rut is fixed but hey enjoy the journey.:)))
Drake, can you tell me whose sailing dinghy you have? You mentioned in the video that you like it better than the Walker Bay which I was considering getting.
Dov Medinets Hi Dov, We bought our fiberglass sailing dinghy in a marine consignment store. I think she might be a home made kit boat and that she might be decades old. There's no brand name on the hull. I think she's most similar to a Fatty Knees sailing dinghy (www.fattyknees.com) I've owned both the Walker Bay 8 and 10 sailing dinghies and really liked rowing them both. But I really didn't like them for their sailing abilities, especially how the tiller isn't on a hinge to make it easier to move around.
Liked your Newport film . Do really like the way your are showing Mo how to operate the boat. You are getting older an need a younger person to take over ha ha. Show my wife how to handle the my boat as soon as she started sailing with me it way most of the time it was just the two of us. Till Ronna came along but she was only 9 months. she enjoyed a little heal she was always in her car seat.
Kevin Lynch Hi Kevin, I think those were these 2 videos from the Sailing Fellowship series: 6. Repairing Fellowship in Thunderbolt, GA - Part 1 - Vagabond 42 Sailboat ua-cam.com/video/xpp0WGvcESs/v-deo.html 7. Repairing Fellowship in Thunderbolt, GA - Part 2 - Vagabond 42 Sailboat ua-cam.com/video/SFKu_PJU3Hg/v-deo.html
It's like watching Abbot and Costello! lol You got the sour puss straight man (no offense Mo, big hug!) and the goofy funny man. You two are so funny together. I love the longer episode.
Loving the videos and how you documented most of the voyages, got one small complaint that you probably aware of but got to mention it, the picture looks terrific but you got to work on the sound levels, whenever either of you is holding the camera the sound of the other is barely audible, if I turn up the TV volume then who ever is filming blows the speakers away, I noticed that on some of the cruisers interviews Drake has done have the same problem, need to invest on a mike away from the camera, just my 2¢
Might be able to use software compression to even out the different sound levels. Would be easier than a 2nd mic, especially since you already have 2 years of video in the pipeline that was done with one mic.
This would be better without the music in the background gonging and making it hard to hear what they are saying. I ultimately just muted the audio and watched in silence since the boinging was giving me a headache and I could barely make out what they were saying anyway.

The honesty in these is touching; thank you both.
Thank you so much risa, we're glad you're enjoying the story. (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique
Spectacular new opening! Your editing and filming expertise gets better every episode, cheers from upstate new york
Hey, go easy on Mo everyone! (edit -- and Drake). She's a sweetheart and a total trooper! She's as real as it gets and so is Drake and you can tell they love each other.
Thanks for the double feature! Every time I see you guys in that sailing dingy it makes me want to get one! :)
LifeisLikeSailing - Vancouver, BC Looking forward to it! :)
This would have been a great week to be in Newport RI with the Volvo race boat coming to town! A year to late for you guys! Safe travels!
Another time...I bet that's an amazing event to see!
Great to see when she learned to sail! Things you learn can not be taken from you and improve you to the next level :)
indrek777 Please stay tuned. Upcoming Episode # 39 'A guy, a girl, and a boat' has the best sailing in it!

Great job guys......I know how difficult and time consuming videoing & editing is....I just wanted to say "thanks"

I like Mo. We said "Inconceivable!" in unison. Fair winds!
Liked the mini dinghy sailing lesson. Thanks!
***** We've had so many adventures in the sailing dinghy Wanda. In our next episode we encounter an ash breeze...
Good stuff... Felt like vacation

Jimmy D I know, right?? 8:20... "That Look".... 8:40, oh damn....
Like the new intro a lot! and everything else too!
Good to see Mo'es first circumnavigation of the harbor!!
mrabrasive51 It was definitely a fun way to explore the harbour, though some of those larger boats moving about made me a bit breathless at times. ⚓
OMG Mo does he always Nag like that?
Going to be fun with a RIB and an outboard.
Parrot Sailor We just got a 15 horsepower 4 stroke Honda outboard for our 10 foot RIB and plan to use it to explore the Faroe Islands in particular this Summer.

H Peterson Thanks for sailing with us H Peterson!
I have seen several sailing videos on youtube where the dingy was lost because of towing it offshore.
Drake have you seen the vid of Captain AJ Smith. He ran into one of the Volvo 65 boats off the coast of the US. It was the Chinese boat Dong Feng. He spoke with them over the radio. It was really cool. Check out his UA-cam page.

Sailing on Egg Shells. Life preservers not required. I agree Lisarob5767.
blugrasssful PFDs are always in the dinghy.
