Really like the simplistic approach of showing what functions to use and why to use these functions. One thing I like to request on top of this is calculating what % of states comprise 80%?

    • @EnterpriseDNA
      @EnterpriseDNA  3 роки тому

      Hello Rajiv Balasubramanian,
Thank You for posting your query onto our channel.
The Pareto Rule is based on the 20%-80% Rule. i.e. in this case 80% of the revenue comes from the 20% of the States. And therefore you don't have to make another calculation in order to decide what's the % of states that contribute to 80% of sales.
We're providing a link below where a query was asked onto the our Forum about how to highlight the states that contribute 80% of the Sales which comes from 20% of the States.
Hoping you find this useful and helps you to understand the concept better.🙂
      Thanks and Warm Regards,

Great vid. I found a Pareto plug in but it has limited formatting. I really appreciated the explanation of the math behind the line chart. I find it very odd that a Pareto chart is not native in power bi though.

Great tutorial ! I followed one of your other tutorials where you explain how display the measures on the X-axis. I tried to incoporate that solution into this pareto chart instead of using the ”state code” for example. But I recieve the error in the sumx part that a column from a calculated table cannot be referened. I have 3 measures ”Lead Time (same day)”
    ”Lead Time” ( 1 day)”
    ”Lead Time (2 day)”
That I wish to be presented on the X-axis.

    Hi Sam,
Thank you for this video, it was so helpful. I'd like the chart to show only the top 80% of States, for example in your dataset it would only show up to WA. When I filter on ParetoChart (States), it shows only the top 80% of the states, but the Pareto line's values change to 100% at the far right instead of 80%. Is there another way I can filter this?

    Hi!
Thanks for a really good video!
One question though. Let say that you have a slicer on "Region" which is connected to State on the x-axis. Will that slicer filter which State that end up on the x-axis?
When I've translated your logic to my data all State's are visible on the x-axis, BUT only the ones that my slicer includes have values.
I want only the State's according to my slicer should be visible, how do I fix that?

I'm having trouble because I have the same values for different lines in my table. I'm trying to build a pareto chart for failure times in equipment. When more than one equipment stayed failed for the whole month (744 hours of failure), all the lines that have the same amount of hours is summed and only after that I get the cumulative values for the rest of the equipment. For example 3 equipment stayed failed for the whole month (744 hours each) and 1 had 372 hours. Using this method I get 2232 for the 3 first lines and 2604 for the fourth line. Is there a way to treat tied lines?

How would you handle a large dataset on the X axis eg if you have 1.000 products that you want to analyze visually (without any labels on the x-axis) ?

    • @EnterpriseDNA

      Hello Ýmir Örn Finnbogason,
thank you for posting your query onto our channel.
Firstly, it wouldn't make sense to analyze the 1,000 products using "Pareto Analysis" technique. And secondly, there's a limit in Power BI which it can handle only up to specific data points. So if you're having excessive number of products in your data set than firstly group your data and than use this technique so that it'll make more sense.

Wouldn't this fail if there is a tie in the revenue.. For example if there are two state code with same rev then it would sum up both for cumulative total and show an erroneous value... How to go about solving that issue

      Hello rajes,
Thank you for posting your query onto our channel. We really appreciate you taking your valuable time to post.
Well, in the case of tie, you can adopt the approach of tie breakers. Our experts have already created the contents based on that and we're providing a link below of those videos pertaining to that topic.

Thanks. Is there a way to replace the 'US Regions'[state_code] with the field you put on the X Axis? For example, if I drill down, the curve is updated. Or if I change the field on the X axis, it also adapts.

      Hello MANUEL ALONSO TALLEDO RONDOY,
thank you for posting your query onto our channel.
The query is not clear to us about what you're trying to achieve or visualize here. Since it's always a little bit difficult to judge and provide the results pertaining to the optimization without looking at the data structure, model and working of the PBIX file for the reference. But one thing for sure is that you'll be required to adjust your formulas accordingly if you add or remove the particular field since there'll be changes in the evaluation context.
For furthermore queries, we encourage you to please write back to us onto our Community Forum by providing the proper description of the problem that you're facing along with the PBIX file for the reference as well as the mock-up results that you're trying to achieve where our members as well as experts team will be able to assist you in a better and efficient manner. Doesn't work correctly in case data have the same values...

      Hello Vadim Ka,
thank you for posting your query onto our channel.
Well, if you have the same repetitive values into the data for all the data points than how can you to expect to showcase them different values for different data points. This logic itself clarifies that in order to showcase this type of result one needs to have different values over a period of time for different data points than you can showcase this type of results.
Also it's always a little difficult to judge and provide the results without looking at the PBIX file and the data structure incorporated in it. We encourage you to please write back to us onto our Community Forum by providing the PBIX file for the reference along with the description of the problem that you're facing and the results that you're trying to achieve where our members as well as experts team will be able to assist you in a better and efficient manner. Hi Sam. Was wondering if you could tell me what the [Revenue] is in your code? I am trying to replicate it myself for my specific situation and I cannot quite figure out what my data set would be related to. I try calling the header title that I think I need to to full fill this but it says it cannot find it. It is the column I used to make my measure that totals the quantities that are related.

      Hi Noah,
Revenue is the total income based the selections E.G.
In your fact table you have a column 'Income Statement'[Value] which is the monetary value.
You also would have 'Income Statement'[Type] Which you would want to filter to = "Revenues" as the column would also contain data such as “Expenses”.
So the formula you would have in this example is:
      Financial Values = SUM('Income Statement'[Value] )
      Revenues =
CALCULATE( [Financial Values], 'Income Statement'[Type] = "Revenues" )

Remember the key to any solid finance reporting is ensuring you have your model set up correctly with your lookup tables and facts clearly defined.

Found this video extremely helpful. However, I am running into an issue with Metrics having the same value. Could you please provide insight? I have a column with 5 unique metrics and each has a value associated with it (see below for example):
Category Value Running Total Pareto Chart %
    #1 9 9 26%
    #2 8 25 71%
    #3 8 25 71%
    #4 6 31 89%
    #5 4 35 100%
I need to be able to show the Running Total for Category #2 is 17 (9+8) and Pareto Chart % = 49%

Do a video about Pareto Chart?
We have 2000 shops/Branches have Loss/Profit of Gross sales vary from -5000000 to 4500000. I want to show bottom Branches which contributes most damage/effect on Total Sales in FY over the
    X-axis --- % of Shops/Branches
    left-Y- axis --- Gross Sales
Right Y-axis --- % [Cumulative Gross Sales]/[Total Gross Sales] in line Axis
I want to show bottom contributing shops/Branches.

Thank You for posting your query onto our channel. We really appreciate you taking your valuable time to post it.
Well, your scenario is not clear to us here about what you're actually trying to explain. It's always a little bit difficult to judge and provide the results pertaining to the optimization without looking at the data structure, model and working of the PBIX file for the reference.
