In the case of gender identity, there are most frequently underlying contingent neurological, biological, and hormonal effects which predispose someone to that surgery long before any ultimate decision-making process. In this particular case, it is a purely cosmetic decision and has no underlying biology behind it. Note that biology includes neurology as a general rule, which also encompasses cultural artifacts as well as self-identity, which is emphasized highly in homo sapiens due to our expanded theory of mind in our neocortex(and a likely huge part of the reason for the malleability of gender in our species). I would only add here that sex and gender are differentiable in this regard, but even sex exists on a spectrum since we typically define sex as beginning with chromosomal combinations, of which many types exist - whether they are rare or "anomalous" or not does not exclude the fact that they exist, which is the ultimatum typically delivered from the Right.

@@scottharrison699 In what way is it mental illness if your entire biology and neurology is telling you you're one gender, and in what way would it exacerbate that problem that being the case? That's a remedy to the issue of gender being forced upon your biology and neurology, not the other way around. Either hormones, chromosomal combinations, and neurons are telling you you're one thing, or they are not. The healthiest thing both as an individual and as a society is to admit that human biology and intricate synaptic and neuronal connections in the brain are not so simple, and that there are a wide variety of perfectly acceptable possibilities that are quite natural. It's the beauty of DNA and its randomness =)

Seems rather counterintuitive given history, culture, and societal standards tending to lend more cultural value to lighter skin. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if on a larger spectrum, you have the tanning industry which persuades very light-skinned people, who socioeconomically have an advantage and spend more time indoors and have a predilection for the tanning need anyway, to get "just enough" darker skin at an optimum, while darker-colored skin must go to greater lengths to achieve that cultural "optimum" in turn, and hence spend more resources on it per person.

Instead of focusing on yourself and what people of your own skin color are going through, try expanding your horizons a bit and showing empathy for those that suffer. Moving beyond the victim mindset and instead vicariously lending credence to what others are going through does wonders for your own self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.

Kids in lower income areas who desire to strive academically undeterred from peer influence will have a significantly higher chance of success than those who fall into the category of assuming the system is meant to break them.
Focusing on yourself is the only way to excel and escape suffering, if you’re to focused on color and physical attributes then you’re just going to fall right back into the endless continuum of “racial prejudice” nonsense, 99% of people aren’t racists. Having empathy for others doesn’t mean sacrificing your own personal agenda to thrive and it most definitely shouldn’t involve a color ideology.

Sure, you can make the argument that it somehow communicates that a lighter skin is better, but it doesn't have to be seen that way. If someone wants their skin to be a tad lighter, it's what they feel looks better on them. It doesn't have to turn into a "lessening" or diminishing of anyone else with darker skin. You don’t see lighter skin people getting tans do you? Unless it’s for a little amount of time, not for long. Thirdly, why is it even there in the first place? I don't think you understand what the term "gaslighting" means. It comes from an old flim where one person tries to convince the other they're crazy by making them question reality. For example if a light really is on and one person says it's on but the other person doing the gaslighting says it's off, even though they know it's on. So it's when one person deliberately lies to another for the purpose of making them question their own perception of reality. Before you respond with what I think you'll respond with no, white people haven't been telling black people that lighter akin is good while darker skin is bad even though they know darker skin is better. If you then refer to standards of beauty being mostly white people due to them being in movies, the shows and advertisements for it's entire history (the nation of the United States, not the continent of North America) the place has been majority European descended people, so just by virtue of numbers you'll see more white people everywhere. Just in case you haven't noticed that's changed in the last few years because people doing the casting have gone well out of their way to cast people that aren't white in roles and as models. I don't really care either way I'm just using it to illustrate a point.
But again, my original point was you're not using that term correctly. No I don't hate you or think you're stupid or anything else like that. If I were using a word in a way where it doesn't fit I'd hope someone would tell me so I can stop doing it, so that's my motivation behind that.

I've always found darker skin beautiful and was envious of it as a kid/teenager. But then I'm also weirdly on the opposite end of the spectrum - I'm so pale I was constantly getting teased for it or it was being commented on., especially when I was growing up. I can't count how many times I've had people I knew act as if they'd been blinded by the light from my legs and tell me I needed to get a tan. I was never able to tan naturally, just burn, so these comments and teasing made me pretty sensitive about it, to the point I started avoiding wearing clothes that showed much of my actual skin below the neck. Over the years I've spent some money on fake tan products to darken my skin - most suck and are not pleasant to use. I've gotten rashes and mild chemical burns from some, or just ended up with an embarrassing unnatural color where it was used from others.

"Colorism is embedded into us at a young age"
Actually, several studies have shown it is more intrinsic than that. Ask a 3 year old who is barely speaking and hasn't really seen someone of another color a cluster of faces of different tones. If you ask "which is the mean one" they point to the darkest tone, even if they themselves are dark and grew up in a dark family. Ask "which is the nice one" and they point to the lightest shade. I can think of several reasons why this may be the case, but they aren't the point here.
I can already tell people are going to make a lot of assumptions about me based on me bringing that up. People will jump to the conclusion that this means I'm saying it's "okay" or that I'm trying to justify racism or something. So if you do that, I've already called you out as not being objective, but presumptive.
No, the reason I'm bringing attention to this is because if we act like it is something that is entirely taught, then we will think passive "color blindness" will resolve the issue on its own. It can't just passively "not be taught". It has to be actively "untaught" from children, for whom this is otherwise normal development. Though I mean the solution is still largely the same: Exposure to a variety of people at a young age, in a context where the differences don't really matter.

It is quite simple. Darkness is reminiscent with fear of the unknown that in which we cannot see easily. Light is associated with joy and happiness and the known. So asking a small child which color person would seem mean, they would pick the darkest. Based on a natural fear and association with darkness being dangerous. Simple. I would bet the same happens with dogs. My dogs seems to feel intimidated more by darker dogs he encounters.

    • @webx135
      @webx135 2 роки тому

@@BukitMan Perhaps. And that may have to do with contrast as well. An easier face to read. A study including albino or platinum blonde faces could shed some light on that.
Imo, it may have more to do with pigment developing with age. So lighter tones may trigger an instinct to be more cooperative towards neoteny. A little ironic given how much slower darker people age than lighter people.
Its unfortunate stuff though. But we need to understand humans as we are to know what to do next. Theres a lot of this: people comparing humans to a standard of perfection we made up, then jumping to misanthropy when we fall short. If we let go of perfection and acknowledge our limitations, we can work around them better. We might have some ingrained racism, sure, but we also have very adaptable minds and some of the most advanced empathy in the world. So it isnt that hard to unteach on an individual level.

Whatever happened to freedom of choice. If you wanna, do it. If you don’t wanna, don’t do it. Let’s make sure we curtail peoples freedoms as.much as possible.

All women are beautiful, no matter what..... and I have learned more from just being around them. Just listening to them, no matter what color. Just be yourself

We women have been changing our skin tones throughout the ages. There is evidence dating back to the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans that people used to lighten their skin using honey and olive oil in order to try to signify that they were wealthy enough not to have to work outdoors.
As most of us know, the Europeans did this for hundreds of years for the same reasons. Unfortunately, they brought this silly belief with them to the places that they colonized.
In 1920's white America what was fashionable finally flipped, as tanned skin served to signify the ability to afford a life of leisure.
I love the pasty white skin I was born with, even though it requires me to be vigilant about skin cancer. It is my hope for all of my fellow women (and men!) to love their beautiful skin. ❤
The philosophy of playing up whatever you have and accentuating the features you like best about yourself seems to be the way to go. Who wants to look like everybody else, anyway? 😉 Dont buy into the hype of whatever is around you. Defiantly enjoy whatever is beautiful about you. ❤
