Hi Ellen. This video is over 3 years old but I went to the Musicians Friend and was able to get a dozen 22 gauge wires for the same price you mentioned in this video! They are already on their way and free shipping still. Thanks a bunch. Valerie
I searched and searched for replacement wire for my cutter and I found your video. If I could hug I would. Thank you thank you for posting this video and leaving it up. Most importantly...thank you for the link to musician friend. You are a blessing!🤗 your soaps are beautiful. New subbie
Ellen, I saw this video last fall and thought to myself..."My cutter is new; that won't happen to me for a long time." Well, to day was the day! Haha! and I remembered your video! Thank you so very much for your knowledge of these things! I ordered some guitar strings from your guy; hopefully they will be here before too long...thanks again. You are a life saver!
Thank you so much for sharing! Broke a string today and immediately went to see if Ellen Ruth had anything posted about it. I purchased strings using your tip. I have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks so much!
Good tutorial!! My husband has a guitar and a banjo. He told me why it is important to loosen the wire between cutting loafs. I do it before putting away. I haven't broke a wire, yet. (Knock on wood). Now I have probably jinxed myself. 😕. Kudos for a great video. Blessings 💕👍💕
Thank you so much! Very helpful tips!! I haven’t had to change my wires out yet (only been soaping for a year now) but I know it’s common to snap wires while cutting soap. Also, it’s good to know where to purchase additional wires for a lot less.
I just got my pumpkin soap yesterday and my husband loved it so much, he actually took it from me 🤦🤷😭. It's a beautiful soap and I can't wait to use it!
Thank you for such a informative video. It's been so long since I've had to change a wire and had forgotten how. All the tips you give are great!! And thanks for the musicians friend tip for wires I'm saving this video for the next time I need to replace one because I'll probably forget again ❤️
Thanks for sharing Ellen! I just looove watching all your videos. To me, they are so soothing after a long day at work and I just find them very relaxing. You are the thing keeping me going!
Very very helpful, thank you for doing these. Do you have any video son how to setup your log splitter to cut different size logs? If you don’t, please consider making one and helping the rest of us … I can’t figure out how to calculate how high or low should the wire go 😢. Thank you for sharing your tips, tricks, bargain finds and inspiration💕.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have the same type of cutter and was wondering if my string ever burst what am I to do lol the vendor I purchased it from on amazon disappeared after I purchased. Very helpful video! ♥️🔥🇹🇹
I enjoy watching you so much. I've learned quite a bit of small things that I never would of thought of while soaping as a hobby now.for a few years. Thanks for the videos. Soaps and body products are always beautiful and waiting on the next release of Christmas products.
Thanks for the video Ellen, very informative! I haven't had a wire snap on me yet, so thought I'd better educate myself on how it's done. You made it look easy :D
Thank you!! I purchased the wire from musicians friends!! However, I go through wires like crazy!! My wire keeps breaking mid cut. Im getting so frustrated.
You can utilise the long new wire offcut, by unwinding the old ball end of the guitar string and then winding the new wire onto that old ball end. It just takes a few minutes. After a few wire changes, you get to know the length of wire you need for your cutter. No need to throw away the bulk of the string. Also I recommend stretching the string slightly then retighten before the first cut, as the string stretches when new and under tension. That's why new strings quickly go out of tune on a guitar. Take the stretch out a bit, and it will cut a lot better sooner with less retightening. Cheers, mike
Me: Where did that tiny piece go Toe: OH OH OH I'll find it Me: OUUCCHH Toe: Found it LOL Great instructions Ellen, Aside from the toe pricking LOL It went perfectly, Thank you :)
Thank Ellen! @ellenruthsoap u don't happen to have an extra? I just need one I check out the site but I don't have a fancy SOAP cutter but I bought a single like cheese SOAP cutter and it came broken and almost took out my eye. So I'm just using a coping saw but I need a guitar string. Your the only local artisan SOAP Maker I know in Middle Tn. It would be a great blessing for me and maybe we can trade or u tell me how much. I'm actually a huge fan and I hate to ask, but it's been financially difficult, so thank you for showing but I'm just using a knife right now. Thank you for everything you do you are amazing.
Bud actually gives bad advice in the instructions. I tried to tell him but he thinks he is an expert on some kinda book he read about wire (Which is false anyway probably). Great soap cutters but he is hardheaded. DO NOT TIGHTEN AND RETIGHTEN YOUR WIRE.. Wire is great at tensile strength but it is not very good at changing shape. Every time you tighten and loosen, the wire changes shape. What happens when you bend an aluminum coat hanger? It breaks right! This is the 5th video in a row Ive watched, and ive seen others, because he doesn't want to take it out of the instructions. 9 years my wire has held tight in the same position and ive cut around ???? 2000 bars ??? while the spare UNUSED wire broke while it was taped underneath the cutter. Yes it just broke by itself cause it was wrapped in a circle. Ok, just watched to the end. I heard what you said. Research tensile strength and learn about wire. The same goes for your guitar. This very principle not only applies to soap cutters and guitars but also bridges. The San Fransisco gate bridge is held by wire. Large wire but its wire. They do not tighten and retighten their wire for the exact reason and it is constantly tight to hold up the bridge.

Thanks! So true, they’re sharp😉
Oh please consider making a video of you playing guitar. So awesome that you play. 🎸❤
I haven't seriously played in a looong time, I'm pretty rusty🤣
@@EllenRuthSoapRusty or not, I'll bet you are great! I should have guessed by how you pluck your soap cutter's string.
Merci pour cette vidéo !!!!!! simple, mais j' ai tout compris..... Je voyais la chose difficile à faire, mais maintenant, facile, facile !!!!! merci.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video Ellen, very informative! I haven't had a wire snap on me yet, so thought I'd better educate myself on how it's done. You made it look easy :D
Glad it was helpful! It's such a buggar when you're in the middle of cutting and it snaps🤣
Thank You Ellen!!!
I just adore you!
I learn so much from you!!!
What gauge do you use?
Thanks!🥰 I use either 20 or 22 gauge
Thank You!!!
Hi Ellen. Thank you so much this was so helpful. Do you know if that wire would be good for cp and melt and pour ?
MP is hard to cut with a wire, they get super hard. I suggest a flat edge knife for MP
Thank you!! I purchased the wire from musicians friends!! However, I go through wires like crazy!! My wire keeps breaking mid cut. Im getting so frustrated.
It's good to get replacements for a great price!
Hello
The link for string replacement, it’s good for any soap cutter? I have the bramble berry one. Thank you 😊
I’m not familiar with that cutter, but if it takes a guitar wire, these will work.
You can utilise the long new wire offcut, by unwinding the old ball end of the guitar string and then winding the new wire onto that old ball end. It just takes a few minutes. After a few wire changes, you get to know the length of wire you need for your cutter. No need to throw away the bulk of the string. Take the stretch out a bit, and it will cut a lot better sooner with less retightening.

The link for the strings are super cheap, like 2.50 for 12 strings (and no shipping)
Is jewelry wire good to use? I have 24-26 guage 19 strand also 20&22 guage stainless let me know if you recommend those
I'm not sure, I've never worked with jewlery wire?? Guitar strings are cheap, and that's what I'm using.
Please can i use Motto clutch wire ...?
Not sure? It would have to be a thin wire.
Where can you buy the wire to replace a broken one
It's in the description box 😉
Yes I need help, my husband replaced mine but its crooked? So my soap isn't straight
Yikes 🤣😉
Is that wire your using hardened wire or is it half or soft? Sorry that the temperament if the wire, jewelry term. Lol
??
I don't have one of these cutters yet, mine is handheld with a mitre box my husband built for me
Nice 👍
Lol, you're right, bleeding on your soap is not sanitary or cool
🤣💕🤣

Yes! You're absolutely right, I've been keeping the tension on my wires lately and they're great!
