    Something that also works For your swirling plate-the piece you manipulate to make the swirled lental shapes-are the clear side of an old cd case. Less chance of breakage and possible injury.

    This is great! I tried a different tutorial once that only used two finger to swirl it. It worked but really smudged the colors together. This was so helpful, thank you! Since I don´t have a small glass thingy I will try with the bottom of a drinking glass.

    • @heathernwells
      @heathernwells  10 років тому

      If you have any small picture frames you can use the glass from those too.
      The glass on top will need to be completely flat on the bottom.
      Good luck :)
      I hope it turns out great.

    I have successfully used acrylic (1/8" thick) instead of glass and I do all my clay work on a smooth ceramic tile. I got the acrylic at Tap Plastics online, 4" square samples were inexpensive. They could also be used for stamps.

      I use a stamping block, the ones you can get for cling stamps, it works great! I also found a small glass cutting board at Wal-mart for about $6, it's textured on once side (which comes in handy sometimes!) and smooth on the other. I think they are tempered so it's harder to break.
      I can't wait to see the peppermint video, I'm only a few months into working with clay and I'm not sure I understand what you mean by working from a cane for the peppermints versus working from the marbling that you did in this video.

      Heather Wells I have become much better at making these and I do love doing it. It is like meditation for me. That all ends though when I try to get a hole going through it. Makes me crazy and irritated. :p If i just do a hole in the top for a bale then I am fine. If I actually try to make it work like a bead then more often than not I ruin it. :p

    Nicky

    • @heathernwells
      @heathernwells  9 років тому

      Nicky Smiles If I had time I would sand them with a really fine grit sand paper, then buff them for a lasting shine. I use varnish. I have been using triple thick, but is seems that there are some newer laws that forced the manufacturers of clear glazes across many industries to change their formulas. Since this change, I have heard some people are having problems with some varnishes getting sticky after a few months.
      I haven't had a problem with triple thick getting sticky, but I hope to test some other varnishes soon.

    What a cool technique! I'm a complete newbie seeking simple techniques to start with. Just learned marbling and swirling from you. Hope they are as simple as you make them seem. TFS!
    OMGoodness, camera was too close to your work surface or zoomed in too much. Guess you need to for your mini's.
    Oh! Question: I'm a stamper, so I have bunches of clear acrylic blocks, will they work in place of glass? I know acrylic won't be as cool to the touch, but just a smooth as glass.

    You make this craft look so simple! I was swirling along with your video and mine turned out like a hot mess! The colors blended together, couldn't see a swirl, so I just added to my scrap clay collection. I'm using Sculpey III in a warm room, I bet that had something to do with my failure. What kind of clay did you use? And was the room cooler?

    Hi Heather, I do my candy canes a different way but I like the way you do yours. I will have to show you how I do mIne on my channel. BTW, I heard a little voice in the background, is it a boy? Girl? How old? Are they your child? Grandchild? Just curious. Just being nosey, LOL It looks like it's time to do your nails again, what will you be putting on them this time? Pastry items? Can't wait to see what you come up with. Anyway, have a great week! Dee

      Hi Dee,
      I will come check out your channel and sub scribe :)
      This time in the background my two nieces stopped by. One is just turning 2, and the other just turned 4. I have a 5 year old son, and a 13 year old daughter.
      I had an idea for one nail in particular, it is a mojito, I didn't know whether it will work or not, so decided to go with Mexican Food this time. I made a couple tiny quesadillas, a burrito and cheese enchilada. I made a lime cane for the mojitos. I may try a margarita, or tequila sunrise as well. It's funny, I don't drink, it makes me really sick. Anything more than a small glass, and I am really ill. I think the drinks are pretty though..
      My nail appointment is Saturday night :)

      For a nice polish without glaze. You need to sand with progressively smaller grit. Ending with the super fine sandpaper (think automotive). Use wet/dry then sand wet to prevent dust in your lungs. Then you buff it with a micro fiber cloth.. it’s extremely tedious but gives gorgeous results

      I think that the top piece needs to be transparent so you can see what's happening underneath.
      I've seen others using an old transparent CD box.

    How do you make a hole in the bead?

    • @larryyin
      @larryyin 6 років тому +1

      cavies12345 you stick something in it like a metal “ skewer” and then bake with it there. It is easy to take them off after.

    yes the beads are awesome...but I agree that the nails need to go...too many of you ladies seem to think you need to decorate your nail...clean looking are so much more attractive....just saying....

    What annoyed me here is the kid talking. Why didn't her mother keep her quiet or take her to another room? Otherwise the video was good. Thanks.

      Sorry you hated my nails so much. They were in my earliest videos. I haven't filmed in a really long time. HOpefully you are able to get some use out of some of them

    You need to have a quiet environment and no child chattering, it was very annoying! Also either clean under your long nails or shorten them.
