Mecir « il Gattone » le chat, vraiment dommage que ce joueur n’ait jamais gagné un Grand Chelem, il en avait le niveau, mais pas tout le temps le mental assurément le plus beau toucher du Tennis jamais vu avec Mc Enroe. Et surtout la personnalité la plus atypique, pas de coach, il ne s’entraînait jamais en tournoi. Parfois en plein match il demandait le score, bref une personnalité vraiment à part, et surtout quel talent insolent. Son art du contre pied tout en douceur est une merveille😍😍😍

Becker realized time was running out and suddenly produced his best form of the match to seize 11 of the next 13 games and square the match at two sets all. An increasingly desperate Mecir, who prepared for the tournament by going fishing in New Zealand for a week to rest an injured ankle, entered the final set knowing he had beaten his opponent in their only other five-set match at the U.S. Open in 1986. But this time he was powerless to stop the match from slipping through his fingers, and Becker rounded off a remarkable win after almost four hours on court.
Mecir should have won this, but ran out of gas, mentally and physically. I was at this and unfortunately never saw him again until he was coaching Kachera. Cut down with injuries to early Mercier, so beautiful to watch. Cheers
