One classy thing I love about the producers, was when the actress who played grandma had her stroke. They kept her in and just wrote around her issues. When it could have been a whole lot easier to just write her off the show.
Loved this show growing up. I think everyone loved it. It represented a special place in time. Family values and Love of Country and God was practiced in everyday life in America.
I'm 42 & I loved the Waltons. I even wanted to be a Walton so I could say "GOOD NIGHT JOHN BOY, GOOD NIGHT MARY ELLEN" but I'm Black so that might've been a little odd to have me as a sibling 😅😅. I also use to love watching a show titled "Hee Haw" with my Grandma. Those are good memories, before remote controls when you had to get up & turn the TV either left or right.😊
Surely they would have loved having you as a sibling. :) I'm 57 and when I was a child since I was the youngest I was both the remote control and the dishwasher in the house I grew up in since none of my own siblings wanted the job. :-). P.S. I watched Hee Haw too, with my mom... I remember Minnie Pearl always saying, "Howdy, I'm so proud to be here!"
Adam! You have just made my day!! I loved the "The Waltons!" Always reminded me of my family! We were never rich in money, but love was overflowing! Thank you for this video!! Safe travels!!!! :)
The Walton's was my Mother's favorite television show too! The house is a must visit for me. I'm putting it on my list. I would have never known it's existence if it wasn't for TDW. I love this daily Vlog channel. Happy Friday everyone.
My grandmother loved watching the Waltons. Brings back many memories of watching the reruns with her when I was younger. Thanks for bringing back great memories Adam! You're the best!
I remember watching this off and on when it originally aired (man I'm old!) I love the John Ritter connection! Elevates the show 10x in my book. Thanks for giving us a tour, so cool!
This was amazing to see. My mother was such a huge fan of the Walton's that I was named after the character Olivia Walton. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Yes it clearly was and Earl Hamner had commented on how his family squeezed into this tiny house. That comment confused me because on the show, the house looked big
The movie was called The Homecoming: A Christmas Story...... and Patricia Neal played the Momma Olivia and Edgar Bergen played the Grandpa, and Andrew Duggan played the Father.... however, the rest of the family cast was the same.... Ellen Corby and the children. The original book was Spencer's Mountain... which was also a movie with Henry Fonda, Maureen O'Hara and James MacArthur.
Hey, LadyDragonsBlood, glad to see someone remembers the connection to Spencer's Mountain. It is certainly one of my favorite films of the early 60s, even though I didn't see it until the early 70s. I had actually read the book in 1968 when I was 13. The story of the relationships to Spencer's Mountain and Warner Bros. is very complicated. Lormiar, the Walton's production company, while later acquired by Warner, was an independent company and they somehow got involved with Earle Hamner about doing the TV show as Spencer's Mountain, but Warner said "No!" Since they owned the film rights and the television rights were somehow tied up in there too. I think back then it was very easy to befuddle TV producers and screw around with TV rights. Anyway, the folks at Lorimar were pretty crafty too and they encouraged Hamner to write a derivative work which was The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, a TV movie and the pilot for the show. Since significant details were changed and different, and since Hamner could claim it to be a derivative of his own original work, he could sell the rights independently of the first. At least that's the story as I've heard it. I think Warner Television had the distribution deal for the show, but they were not involved in the actual production. The show was cancelled in 1981 and Warner did not acquire Lorimar until '89. Lorimar had office and studio space at Warner Bros. Burbank facilities, thus the house exterior set was (and I think still is) located there. In terms of television successes, I think Warner probably regretted their "No!" when it came to doing Spencer's Mountain for TV since the Waltons was a monstrous success and ran for 9 seasons, an enviable accomplishment then and even now, although today it seems to be more common. It was a great show, very good family entertainment and an interesting study in the the business of film and television.
LadyDragonsblood. Spencer's Mountain was the very first idea of the Walton's. like family via Earl Hamner then the Homecoming Christmas movie was the start of what is the Walton's.
My fovourite show of all time! My family was hooked on it during my childhood! We always waited for that ...."Good night Grandpa ....Good night Elizabeth" ....that was priceless!!
My son checks out waltons videos for me from the library ALL THE TIME LOL I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THEM AND IM 54 WHO WAS RAISED SIMILAR IN COLORADO. LOVE LOVE THE SHOW ❤
Thank you for doing the research and delivering to us the greatest stories told of our Great America ! Your journey's should be included in the modern day's school curriculum, TDW inspires! Thank you!
Thank you Adam. Looks like a beautiful area to visit. Did not realize his childhood home was that close to me. Only about 4 hours drive away, will definitely have to visit someday.
I loved the Walton's. One of my favorite TV shows of all time. It lost something after the John Boy character left, Grampa died and Grandma had her stroke. But that is kind of like real life, Things change.
Adam this was FANTASTIC!! Loved every blessed minute of this video. The Waltons was my all-time favorite TV show back when we owned a television.... now I watch the old episodes on DVD's. Thank you so much for taking time to visit this place and taking us along~
Adam....you struck gold with this one.....seriously. One of the best shows EVER on TV and still holds up well today!!!!!! makes me long for the simpler days of my youth......
A sincere and heartfelt thank you for this vlog, Adam. It brought back wonderful childhood memories of Sunday night TV with the family. I still remember all the characters so well, and when you mentioned John Ritter, I did remember him playing the minister too, which seems strange in contrast to Three's Company.
The Waltons were a part of my youth in the early 1970's. I would plan my whole week around the show, my neighbor also loved the Waltons, we would watch it together. I miss those times. There is nothing on tv like it now.
The Waltons is my absolute favorite show ever! I always wanted to go here. Thank you for taking me. This whole vlog was great. Safe travel blessings. Peace.
Loved this show growing up even though I watched it many moons ago in New Zealand. I probably watched re-runs being born in '73' but one of my favourite memories as a kid. Thanks for the tour ♥️.
I've enjoyed many a Daily Woo's but I gotta say this one is my favorite. The Waltons and the whole vibe of the show holds a special place in my heart. I remember gathering around the tv once a week to watch and always gleaned a few life lessons. Grandpa was my favorite. Visiting there is a major bucket list item for me, thanks for sharing your visit. - Safe travels Adam
Hi Adam, a while back you asked for suggestions of places to visit, and I suggested a visit to Walton's Mountain. Thank you so much for doing so. It was great to see where the inspiration to create the TV show came from. It brought back so many wonderful memories for me, from the 1970's, remembering loved ones now passed, we use to look forward to every episode. Regards from the UK.
I loved this! Thanks for sharing. 😊 I saw a truck same make and model as John boy's in the show in Laughlin and geeked out a bit. You're never too young to appreciate classics. I say this because my boyfriend's mother looked at me a bit suprised when I said it reminded me of The Waltons. My parents always shared the shows they watched when they were young. I also like Little House on the Prarie as well. We still have her set of books she had as a little girl. Thanks again for sharing all your cool adventures with us. :)
Good Morning John Boy! TY Adam, for sharing something so dear to my heart! I love the Walton's so much I watch the original pilot movie, The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, at least 4 times a year I have the DVD, but you can watch it on You Tube. This show is about a better time that many of us remember. Life was good. I remember getting all of my chores done early on Walton's night so I could watch the new episodes. Great subject today, and great vlog!
The trip to Rockfish was the icing on the cake. It's good to know it was a real place and the old post office is still standing, with skeleton key lock and all! Loved it. Thanks soooo much for a wonderful video.
Watched a GREAT episode yesterday of The Waltons and today I asked myself, "I wonder if Adam has every vlogged anything about The Waltons?" and BOOM! Here it is. THANK YOU ADAM!
Loved The Waltons & Little House on the Praire when I was a kid! I know that the Walton house on the WB lot was used as The Dragonfly Inn for Gilmore Girls.
Adam, your narrating skill is top notch. I love the way you keep me wanting to hear more while keeping the story with details. Wonderful job, pat yourself on the back.
+Housemousell MAD magazine took aim at everyone....and in doing so produced some of the best comedy spoofs ever. I used t o like the way they would have a pic on the back cover of stars from the show they were featuring reading the mag. Is it still around, or has it gone the way of all great stuff?
I loved this vlog on Waltons mountain. Thanks for letting us visit it with you, its impossible for many of us to travel, and its great to travel along with you!!
The first movie was called "The Homecoming: A Christmas Story," and featured the late GREAT actress Patricia Neil. Not sure why Ms. Neil did not do the series, but I'm sure there is a UA-cam video about it. I watched that movie in 1972 on NBC (channel 4) on the upstairs TV at my Grandmother's house when I was 9 years old. It had a profound effect on me then and has continued to to this day. Almost every year I watch The Christmas Story. Turns out "The Waltons" were "Pioneer Stock" just like my own family. That's why it resonated so deeply. I look forward to visiting the "Sacred Ground" of Hamner's childhood home - thank you for this wonderful video to tide me over till then. We are creating our own Walton's Mountain here in Cobden. Here is a slice for those of you rife with Nostalgia for Americana. ua-cam.com/video/fj4T5qBTkJU/v-deo.html
Being a huge fan of The Waltons, watching this Vlog just, made so nostalgic. I purchased the entire DVD collection of the show and I sit down, whenever I can and truly enjoy that classic masterpiece of television series. I'll love to visit that place and pay homage to Mr. Hamner & to say "thank you" for the humble legacy that he left to us. Also, I definitely would love to meet some of the cast members from the show as well. Thank you, Adam the Woo for this Vlog. You made my day!!
I remember seeing the LA Walton's Mountain just as it was being erased in the early 80's. Excellent vlog today Adam, fascinating to see where all the ideas came from. I must visit some time.
Thank oyu so much for this vblog. I have the entire dvd set of the Waltons and have seen every episode so many times. You have taken to a place I have always wanted to visit. Thank you for this.
I watched The Waltons all the time and I still do. I must point out one thing to you, Adam. Earl Hamner Jr died on March 24th, 2016. That was last year.
thank you so much for sharing this adam.i grew up from 6 years of age watching this series with my mum and gran in the 70s.and i had a big crush of mary ellen .
I love how welcoming they were to give you the key to the house and let you wander around without anyone following you around. That made it even more special. Your mother is going to love this vlog.
We discussed where you were at and my I said, I bet he visits Walton's Mountain (Earl Hamner hometown) ,and here you are , taking the Trips we don't have time to take , so thank you so much as we virtually take them with you!!!!!!
I can't believe i was just reading Hamner's autobiography yesterday and now you are at his childhood home. Also the pilot episode was called "The Homecoming", but it featured an almost full different cast, then it was picked up for TV and recast and then it became The Waltons. There was a movie called Spencer's Mountain starring Henry Fonda that was filmed in the area you are in which was an earlier incarnation of the show but with different characters altogether. See you tomorrow Adam,, from the UK. =)
A very enjoyable read, lots of photos of all the places you have visited in this vlog. It was as if you brought the book to life you did a fantastic job my friend. =)
the man who played john walton was a really bad alcoholic but being on the show with the cast and feeling like he was part of a family made him quit drinking. just a little factoid
Wonderful, wonderful vlog today! Another place I always wanted to see, but never did.... so thanks for taking us along! You never disappoint! Thank you, Adam!
You're killing it brother, some of the best work you have ever done has been lately since you have been on the back roads of America.Keep up the great work.
we find your country an amazing place and would love to come for a very long extended visit, say about 30 or 40 years maybe.... until then Adamthewoo can do our exploring for us
Colin Brandist Good morning from Indianapolis, Indiana!! Thank you for the nice comment about the USA!! I hope you get the opportunity to come, if so hook up with Adam, he knows all the good places!!!
Nice job, thanks for taking us back in time and a lot of this background info I didn't know. The Walton were a classic and many good lessons learned. Love the show and still watch it when I can find it.
My gran and I watched this show along with Fantasy Island,Love Boat and Little House on the Prairie. That was our weekend treats. Man she would have loved to see this place. That church with the ivy was pretty. I remember Ritter 👍👍 Wow that post office!!!🤗 Thanks for this brought back some really happy memories of my and my gran and Sunday nights. 💖 Beautiful drone shots too!!👍
Wow Adam, u really did a excellent job on this video. Thank you so much. I was 6-7 years old when the Walton's started airing and as pretty much all of the 70' s shows I loved it, loved them all.
Andy@TheDailyWoo, thank you SO much for this video! I got chills seeing Earl's/JohnBoy's desk. I always wished I had a two storey house with a window right in front of my desk, just like on the. show. And the kitchen table! The whole video was great. So much fun to see and well done. Thanks! 😊
Great job Adam, I grew up watching the Waltons every Thursday night with my grandparents and those are still some of the best memories of my childhood, what a great and wholesome show likes of which we don’t seem to have these days, thank you so much for a trip down memory lane and how lucky are you to actually get to go in the real house!!! WOW, thanks for sharing👏🏼👍🏼
One classy thing I love about the producers, was when the actress who played grandma had her stroke. They kept her in and just wrote around her issues. When it could have been a whole lot easier to just write her off the show.
I agree
I agree too she was a very important part of the show
And when Grandpa died in real life, they wrote his death into the show.
Lsassee.
The Walton's, Grizzly Adam's, little house on the prairie. Loved them shows.
Loved this show growing up. I think everyone loved it.
It represented a special place in time. Family values and Love of Country and God was practiced in everyday life in America.
All the things that are being very purposely rejected in today's world.
That's what this World is missing SO badly now! And that's what we all need SO badly!
I'm 42 & I loved the Waltons. I even wanted to be a Walton so I could say "GOOD NIGHT JOHN BOY, GOOD NIGHT MARY ELLEN" but I'm Black so that might've been a little odd to have me as a sibling 😅😅. They would have adopted you and you would fit right in!
latishabrown801 and if the president was on when ya turned it left and right your night was done!!lol

I've never heard of the Waltons
They started the Walmart chain.
Sam passed away some time ago.
Chris Walker CBS in the 1970's
The show had nothing to do with the walmart founder
Tampa Jay! Another great contributor to UA-cam!
My grandmother loved watching the Waltons. Brings back many memories of watching the reruns with her when I was younger. Thanks for bringing back great memories Adam! You're the best!
Its school bus boss
Family time with the kids watching The Walton's and Little House on the Prairie. Great vlog nothing wrong with being geeky.
I remember watching this off and on when it originally aired (man I'm old!) I love the John Ritter connection! Elevates the show 10x in my book. Thanks for giving us a tour, so cool!
+Adventures by George the episode where Ritter first comes to town and is exercising in their front yard is unintentionally hilarious
Just awesome man!! Great episode from start to finish. I love the Waltons, I'm 43 and literally grew up with them.
+The Lawn Care Nut it was amazing to finally go there
This was amazing to see. My mother was such a huge fan of the Walton's that I was named after the character Olivia Walton. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
I must say,"The Waltons" house looks allot smaller than in the tv show.😮
Yes it clearly was and Earl Hamner had commented on how his family squeezed into this tiny house. That comment confused me because on the show, the house looked big
Another great post, Adam. I am of your generation (born one week before you in August '74) and I love the Waltons...takes me back to a great place.

I'm 30 -- and it was basically must see as I grew up too. I'm either old as the hills or a living anachronism.
Born in 1961 (you do the math🤣) and yes this was part of my childhood (I was 10 when it first started)
jason leman....they're still the best. My grandkids watched them too!

Hi Adam, a while back you asked for suggestions of places to visit, and I suggested a visit to Walton's Mountain. Thank you so much for doing so. It was great to see where the inspiration to create the TV show came from.
The backlot in California has been WV & CT. Also, Loralei & Rory' s house was also in the TV show Pretty Little Liars
Adam, your narrating skill is top notch. I love the way you keep me wanting to hear more while keeping the story with details. Wonderful job, pat yourself on the back.

I love how welcoming they were to give you the key to the house and let you wander around without anyone following you around. That made it even more special. Your mother is going to love this vlog.
Oh this makes me so nostalgic!!!!! Great vlog!!!
+paulallan1000 I need to read that myself one day
A very enjoyable read, lots of photos of all the places you have visited in this vlog. It was as if you brought the book to life you did a fantastic job my friend. =)
the man who played john walton was a really bad alcoholic but being on the show with the cast and feeling like he was part of a family made him quit drinking. just a little factoid

+ Kenneth Nash Man I thought the vlog was gonna get bloody! I mean the tree didn't get him, but the pot hole nearly did the trick! :))
Thanks! 😊
Morning Mr. Woooooo!
I wasn't a huge Walton's fan but I love hearing the stories behind tv shows and movies. Great vlog. Hope to see you in Ohio some day soon. :)
glad you enjoyed it
the episode where grandma came back and they were all trying to pet her and she felt unneeded was maybe the best episode ever on the show
Thank You Adam... used to watch this show as a kid and my mom/grandparents loved it too.
