The challenge: Make a song that transitions between 26 genres of electronic music, in alphabetical order.

Check out the making-of vid here: • Making of a 26 Genre Song
New song every Monday, and new audio geek video every Thursday!
One genre per letter, ya'll.
And this is not meant to be an exhaustive list... I went for the genres I thought would fit well together in a song, so a few important ones didn't make the cut.
Gabe Miller Music Can you please make a 10 minute loop of the Melbourne bounce drop?
Hey men you forgot Tribal!!...
Great idea. With so much genre bending these days, it's easy to get muddied down with adjectives. Knowing the essentials helps with sorting, but when studying styles/ history or even making playlists, simple is the best way to go.
For example : T = trap but techno doesn't exist... yeah.. sure...
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about understanding electronics basics try Letza Easy Electronics Lessons (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got great results with it.
HOW DARE YOU NOT INCLUDE MY FAVORITE GENRE OF ARGENTINIAN CYBERGRIND MICROFRENCHCORE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Calm the F down the title does'nt say "a dictionary of genres"
Andy Miller haha lol
why argentinian? racist
I mean, he skipped a lot of primary electronic genres in favor of some very niche genres to keep in a relative bpm band. Example: zouk isn't even specifically electronic, a lot just happens to be electronic now.
@@rimelgana1656 it’s a joke you calm down
this genre is called "full flavor"
That DUBSTEP drop was sick btw good work with transitioning all of the genres together
Kiskool r yeah
Kiskool r
It really was
i want a 10 minute version of the melbourne bounce
upp
LOL
Your hardstyle is slowwwwww
Every second song is slooooow.
I wonder what 110BPM would sound like in this vid xD
He kept the bpm consistent the whole time.
so true.. i got offened XD
Just change the 'speed' to 1.25x on the video.
If he change tempo every 4 or 8 bars, there will be no coherence on the song. He sacrificed the tempo of some genres to make sense. Is a song with elements of 26 sub-genres of electronic music, not a 26 songs mashed together.
i like how it's just mostly the entire melody in mortal combat
0:00 ambient

😆
xD
ha
Lolol
you are frikin good at melbourne bounce!
imo the melbourne part was too thin, no power..
It’s the only original thing i heard on UA-cam about Melbourne bounce, maybe is more Melbourne bounce than Melbourne bounce is
The work involved in this challenge is unreal. Pretty much hurts my brain just thinking about it. Good job man.
+James Cordara Thanks!
I'm amazed nobody is in the comments fucking arguing about how you got your genres wrong.
I guess for you, that means you know your stuff.
Can't say much about some of these genres but as long as I understand your work is remarkable. To connect this genres by alphabetical order. I would like to see something similar made by the ones critizing your work. Keep going.
> B-B-BUT YOU MISSED "insert random shit genre here"
The video isn't about all genres, there are a shitload of different genres, you can't make video about all of them, deal with it. I also like other genres which weren't mentioned here, it doesn't matter, the video is not about all the genres. The content is good, appreciate it.
Raivis Benkitis what that's not what video was about it was about a genre for each letter lol
Glad you chose chip tune :)

Came for Techno and was disappointed
The rave is trance u know....
SO TRUE
sorry m8.
I do actually listen to a good bit of techno, but I've never tried producing it. And one genre-per-letter, so there's that.
3:45?
*ONE GENRE BY LETTER*
Sounds absolutely amazing. Some of your transitions were really smooth and gradual between genres! Though there were a few that felt a little jarring. Was unavoidable given how different some of the genres were though. Absolutely fantastic job all around!
Bro you killed this! Perfection!
UK Garage
Valen that's exactly what I was expecting haha
UK garage is great!
Name of the track?
This was really awesome to watch! Great job :)
That was an amazing compilation ! It really is hard to differentiate electronic music but you nailed it !
I love this video. This showcases my mind set everytime i'm making music or listening to a playlist. I need this type of organized chaos! Whether or not that's what comes out in the end when i'm making music,is another question for another day.
This is what it sounds like if you scroll through the factory patterns of a Korg Electribe
just found your channel, great music!
Trance is called rave in this video.
There are different kind's of Trance music. Psycore is the fastest side of Trance music. And Psybient/Psychill/Psydub is the slowest side of Trance.
ASDRION TM Well, true. There has also been a type called ambient-trance which was around way back in the early 90s with classic trance. It's like psybient's predecessor. I could list all the trance genres but there's just so many that I might as well do it another time. Psycore! I'm gonna go and check that out ;)
ASDRION TM there are very differents vertex of trance, but there is the original psytrance that defines the beginning, and that are made till today even with the lot of vertex the are originated from
You can still find that early 90s inspired trance labeled as techno nowadays! And ofcourse proper psytrance also has that trance effect.
ASDRION TM psydub/chill doesnt really count as trance, its downtempo psychedelic music pretty much. Trance is usually fast starting at 135 beats per minute
Really nice production! you did a good job.
Very nice! There's a lot of similar videos but that's the best of that sort I have seen! And best thing about it is that you actually made one song in all those genres! So hence people can hear the exact difference
nice one gabe!!!
Are YoU kidding with FUTURE BASS? WHAT WAS THAT!!
MAtomiX Official haha yeah? Wtf?
Sounded like Melodic Dubstep to me
Marshmello
MAtomiX Official
Illenium makes music like that
Must say you seem very talented. I wouldn't be able to do this kind of thing in a million years. 👏🏻👏🏻
IDM with 4on the floor kicks... yeah :D
Awesome man thanks for sharing
Hey i think you confused dubstep with brostep but i might be wrong
ConnorZ what is the difference
dubstep is basically a 2step (it's an UK genre) pattern with a bassline (mostly sub bass) on it. It appeared when 2step and jugle producers started to make their 2step tunes more sub-bass oriented and took off all the stupid lyrics they where putting on them at the time.
some examples are:
horsepower productions - fat larry's skank
el-b - amazon
skream - midnight request line
benga & coki - night
digital mystikz - anti war dub
brostep is basically the "kick on the 1st beat and snare on the 3rd beat" drum pattern which started to grow in uk dubstep in like 2005 or 06, mixed with strong bassline but this time more "mid frequencies" oriented, and not so much sub bass.
some early examples are probably
rusko - cockney thug
caspa & the others - well'ard
coki - spongebob
tc - where's my money (caspa remix) -> probably the first "true brostep" tune
but then it grew up to be what skrillex, zomboy, excision, datsik, 12th planet, etc. are currently making
it came to mainstream with skrillex's Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites EP release
You're not wrong. People are still referring to Brostep as dubstep. Since Brostep is so controversial in the scene, it's only natural to differentiate it from Dubstep...especially when they don't sound that much alike.
helostcontroll duck me you didn't have to write an essay about it lol
TYPlayzYT i like to show off... lmao.
Awesome work!
The UK Garage part is great! Can you do more like this?
Thank you. This was very informative.
Very interesting. Great video!
That's great work. Congratulations, a great job
Lol, the electro house and meblourne bounce ones were spot on with their tropes. Well done
DJ R3K0RD Thanks!
awsome transitions!
This is amazing!
Forgot chillstep :)
Big fan killigrew! 😁😁😁
Killigrew forgot ?
Doesn't exist
Funny, I've made like 4-5 albums in that genre :) it's basically dubstep without the aggression that it's quite often attached too.
Sick!! More video like this!
was looking for a - z genre songs and gave this one a listen - this one presents the genres way better than that one by i-D.
I really appreciate the effort you put into this!
lovely video!
Very cool Gabe :-). My favourite was the Melbourne Bounce
Trance? Electronic Body? Industrial?
The challenge says only one genre per letter.
Also, u got xylophone instead. Isn't that awesome?
Swag Waschbär omg thank you
Rave like Trance
*ONE GENRE BY LETTER*
Awesome!
That's a very good work. I'm from Brazil and I'm knowing some new music styles. Certainly you're show some of thes who I had never listened of. Congratulations!
That's awesome! Idea awesome , off course not all music like a style) but cool!
Awesome!!
Thank you. Very nice and computing ❤️
Anybody know any sources for the "quiet storm" genre as it's presented in this video (at 4:12)? Because I can't seem to find anymore this genre anywhere.
Lmao I didn't notice the background was a map
Sorry, but wat is "Lmao"🤷♀️
@@BJ-jk3ex Laugh my ass off
dude this is so awesome
Interesting stuff! Keep up the good work, friend!
Ultiyplayer Thanks!
This was so cool!
Explosive Yeast Thanks!
that's awesome, dude
Amazing!
damn so nice mix! but more deeper and wider in real
Nice!!
so glad i found this
electro house and Melbourne bounce was so good
I think Glitch wasn't glitchy enough, also lol i can't believe you put japanoise in there 😂, also you did confuse dubstep with brostep but it's ok, overall you did a great job!!
Good job man
I would like a version that only contained the lounge melody, I love that one!!!
Gabe what kind of Midi keyboard do you use? By the way, this music is really well done!
Isaac Carlton Thanks!
I use the M-Audio Keystation Mini 32. Great little keyboard.
This may be too much to ask, but can you come back to this idea in the future? There are a lot of genres id love to see your take on. Spedifically weirder ones like say extratone. Xoxo
I'm not planning to come back to this idea, but I'll definitely give extratone a look. In the meantime, I have made a ton of other genres that aren't in this video on my channel. :)
Awesome !
I try to learn the differences between all elctronic music genre but it's difficult...
What a great way to get familiar with this astonishing number of electronic music genres! BRAVO!
Sadly no sounds of Drum&Bass, Neurofunk, Techstep...
How did you make the background video?
wow you really beefed some of these up
Thanks for compiling! Not a bad guide at all. Tends to get to the point pretty well.
"Xylophone: Sorry, best I could do." Would've been hilarious if the xylophone was xenharmonic.
Well done! Would you mind if I use it for another video and credited you?
Ha, I saw that boyinaband video. Fun to see others doing it too
Nice KOAN Sound profile pic.
sviator1 thanks mate, love his stuff
+Ginger .-. Same here. :-)
See mine!
Mejor o peor atinado cada estilo, la forma de presentarlos es muy interesante, enhorabuena
Is it possible for you to you make a kind of documentary about the diffrent electro subgenres? I don't understand them all or can say, this belongs to this subgenre and this song to this. Would be nice if somebody could explain the genres, it subgenres and give some examples. Maybe even how this the music is made. Thanks for your attention ;)
I appreciate your answer, listen to some of those monstercat playlist gave me an idea what each genre sounds like. My problem though is i have never heard of some genres like chiptune or Melbourne Bounce.
Moreover some of the music genres sound similar to me. It would be nice to have somebody telling me where the distinctions between the genres are.
Thanks for your reply ;)
The ultimate guide of electronic music till early noughties : techno.org/electronic-music-guide/ since there are a lot of new subgenres ( EDM is not a subgenre to me but a kind of music industry )
You used big room for electro house tho, but gimme a full version of that hardstyle and we good
Great!
Awww, the drop of the Dubstep one would have been nice as a transition to DnB, but hey, still a great compilation ^^
extratone? ( i thought it would be funny u added it in lol)
Veltal _ u crazy 😂
Extratone isn’t even a genre, it’s just EDM with a 1K or higher tempo, with some tropes like horrible sounding and very loud drums
@@ourladypeace3 i love Extratone -_-
This was a sick track do you have it on Spotify.
do a part 2 with others genre. if u can
Cool!
i would loop the dubstep and progressive house parts over and over again.
what is the Melbourne bounce song??
Fluffy this
It's all original
Hw create one melody and try to make it to all genres. It's a challenge.
There's a genre call quiet storm? I'm definitely going to check that out.
I'm enjoying all of these though, even if I think the some of them are not very good representations of their genre.
Can anyone tell me the songs that were in this video, please?
MIHAI VITEAZUL It's all one song, not multiple songs mixed together. Hence the same melody throughout and stuff like that. :)
Youre good at producing melbourne bounce ! 😁
why havnt u added the song titles in the description?
The best for me is electro dance, idm, lounge, melbourne bounce, outsider house, progressive house, quiet storm, and trap
Just found out about synthpop and I love it
The whole thing is a banger but the IDM part is particularly good
Does it have be in alphabetical order? Does it have to be the same genres or meet a time limit or BPM?
I freaking love you included japanoise
hahaha, I loved the transition from chiptune to dubstep!
Quiet Storm sounds like a calmer version of lofi...
Bro... That Hardstyle track is awesome... I really want it :0
He's a very good DJ.
