I use a clear solo cup to put my earth in then i put it in a red solo cup, that way you can take a look at your root system before transplanting.

That definitely helps. I like to at least do one in the solo cup to see what the rest might look like. Use that as the gauge.
Once they start to yellow to offen I know I've gone a bit to long waiting to transplant it seems also

the trick is to wait until the bud snaps off the stem. not the stem snapping. big difference.
Once the buds begin to snap off the stems I put the entire plant back into a plastic bin with a top on for 1 more day to equal out the moisture all throughout the buds. Utilize the left over moisture in those stems to equalize things. then do the final trim.
Putting the plant back into a bin for that extra day really preserves the terps properly and then no need to ever burp your jars with this method either. lock up the flowers and dont open the jars until ready to smoke.
It took me over 20 years to figure this out last month on my last grow. that last step by putting it in the bin BEFORE trim made a HUGE difference in the final flavor and quality.

1 week in closet at like 50 humidity then right into bag or jar. House is like 78 degrees. Sometimes 2 weeks🤷 idk works for me. No hay smell at all. I jus need to get down when to pull the plant. Tried early tried late, tried 2 late. I can never get it perfect.

  • @jm3517
    @jm3517 2 роки тому +7

One timing thing I’ve noticed is a lot of my weed used to smell like hay and everything I could find said that’s because it dried too fast but then I heard from Jeremy on the build a soil channel that it can also be because you jarred it too early while it was still wet and that seemed to be the bigger culprit in my case.
I was always afraid of overdrying because in my first grow I waited for a snap in the biggest branches and by the time that happened the humidity in jars was like 45%. So I overcorrected and I’d put it in jars a day or so early and control the humidity by burping, and while that would control the moisture it’s like it had locked in that hay smell. Now I wait until it feels just a tad bit overdried before jarring and the moisture from the stem or middle of the bud will come back out and bring the overall moisture up once it’s in jars and I don’t get that hay smell anymore.

I'm an old dude, been growing for years. I have to admit that the harvest, dry, and cure is the tricky part for me still.
A slow dry at lower temps is key though.
Also, I gotta agree with Chris. If my stems are dry enough to snap, I have already passed the optimal time to cure.
One last thing; you mentioned keeping a notebook (40:30) . My memory is not what it used to be, so I have been keeping a "garden journal". It really helps me stay on top of my feeding schedule, etc. And, I can review what was happening on previous runs, to refine my process. Especially helpful when "breeding "

Just finished my dry and cure.
    Went for 60° 60% r/h for 16 days.
I used a large room and while I did stay on top of refilling the humidifier Its a point worth touching on that the smaller the room the easier to control the environment conditions.
My humidifier was misting as close to without touching the plants as possible to achieve and average 55% r/h
The overall plant size also played a big roll in determining length of dry time too.
I did my first scrog with 2 large plants, large for my 3x3 anyway aprox 3.5 feet tall with a full 2 foot plus canopy on each. Strains were Cafe racer and Critical mass. They were probably done drying by day 10. I went a bit dry. Worked out to 36% in the jar. Small hygrometers definitely a must, helped immensely to know if I needed to burp, dry again or just keep it sealed and let those gases work there magic.
I also grew a small Bubba cush under two feet, Minimal veg. Mainly one huge cola. It dried in less than a week same conditions.
First smoke tests pre cure were not great but after even one week in the jar that green flavor and slight harshness turned smooth and out came some much more desirable flavors.
Critical mass turpenes have changed completely and taken on a sweet cheese smell.
I know.. not my favorite but theres some dank coming out and a pretty good flavor that has me patting myself on the back for the accomplishment of a successful harvest after a few PM infestations in a row this was a needed win.

Using citrus peels to rehydrate can get dry buds back to the proper humidity. Only use in two hour or less increments or you bud will smell soy sauce. But if done right I went from 38% RH to 62% just using citrus peels for about week now my bud hold humidity on its own no bovedas needed, smokes great and has a citrus terp profile. Happy growing!

Regarding the old weed not coming back to life I disagree as of recently ..
I had a big harvest last year , and I totally forgot about buds that I didn’t even trim , left in a closed trashbag , totally completely dry like powder almost .. I trimmed them and put them in a har with x3 62% bovidas , 1 hour later the bud is fire and most of the terpenes are there !! Incredible .. sometimes when you harvest a lot and search trough your old trimmings you find a bag with some gold in it :)

    • @SageLakshmi
      @SageLakshmi 2 роки тому +1

@@growshack9067 while there is a standard temp/humidity that is ideal for drying/curing, i personally have found that depending on where you live and time of year, it may require some tweaking. Drying in the middle of winter when the average household humidity in my region is like %30 rh is gonna be different that drying in mid summer. But ofcoarse, region dependant. Good luck mate and happy growing!

Find drying for full flavour is best done in a cardboard box within a cupboard with a bodeva pack, if the weather is extreme! The time it takes depends on the cultivar...indica dominant usually takes 5 -7 days and it's personal preference, I like the flower to retain about 10% moisture before jarring up!

Those hygrometers are a MUST. Best way to put it is that you cannot detect moisture. You can barely detect with nose, but ur nose certainly cannot detect the difference btw 50% and 80%. There is just no way.
I just harvested my first and it came out perfect. I used a different approach >>> Purchased a large sealing tote and cut square holes in the side(4"x6" cutout on all 4 sides) + slapped A/C vent filter on those holes. Then took a noctua computer fan and attached it to one of the filters. The bud sat on racks in the tote. Hygrometer on the racks. I put the fresh bud in the tote and turned on the fan. As the humidity changed, I changed fan speed. U can also cover holes if evap rate is too much.
It's a simple setup. Lotta control. Plus the filter helps keep out mold spores. This device looks like a mushroom monotub with way bigger holes. Being able to control evaporation rate is really cool.

Timing of watering is something early growers definitely have trouble with and don't understand when and how much water to give. Depends on pot size, stage of growth, medium, cultivar, ect. But should have been included in timing somehow.

Another trick I do is cover the top layer of soil with either cardboard or aluminumfoil. I did this mid flower 🌼. And was truly successful.

I have also used the trick on putting a wet flower in a jar of dry buds to get some moisture back. I first heard of this tip from The Garden Sage. I felt it added some flavor too. Recently had some blue dream cured for 6 months, the moisture level was perfect due to bovda pack. I do feel overall I prefer a fresher flower and if dried properly one month cure in a jar is perfect. (In my mind)

Now that I’ve been doing it this way, my smell and flavor have been on fire🔥…in the winter in my house that means 4-6 days with alittle air flow👍🏽

As the branch first appears I put a small ring around the shade leaf beneath this trains the branch out from the stem. By the time the branch is stronger than the shade leaf stem there is enough of a outward push from the stem to help with air flow, bud development and such.
Don’t twist the ring closed, had to learn that one the slow way.

Another good tip, trim bottom of solo cup, leavin a tiny strand of plastice ever 1 inch, just enought to keep bottom attached to cup. Put that cup into another untrimmed cup, so it can hold water. Many people have weighed in on flushing pro and con, but my question is what causes black ash and chemical taste in bud if not lack of flush.

    • @loopmantra8314
      @loopmantra8314 2 роки тому

Too fast drying/curing more likely is the culprit.
Me personally, I always feed only water last two weeks, occasionally flush, but more for easier trimming, because they eat themselves out that way.
Tried both flushing and feeding all the way through, not so much of a difference tbh - but like Chris said in that one video - that's precisely the thing, if there's no real difference, you're only wasting nutrients in the end, better to flush

@@loopmantra8314 Thanks Loop, sounds like a good explanation. I didn't ask if he followed good drying/ curing protocol when I tried the product and found it lacking good taste and proper white ash. I assumed it was because it was lack of bringing down the salts in the end. The problem was only with one growmie that produced this problem more than once. Like you, and many others, I do water only for the last two weeks and have never seen this problem, and he bombs them till the end. Now I must find out how he dried them, I gotta know

If dealing with photo's I recommend transplanting at the 2 week mark give or take a day or so. Of course if the plant looks healthy that helps if not then I'd have to cull a stunted one and start again for those prominent root zones
Also if a seedling leaf's start to touch the soil use a plastic tie to wrap them leaf's up in a pony tail to avoid any touching soil as that will cause all types of disease to occur

I have a question. I’ve never done any last and I’m wondering; when you tie something down, do you ever let it back up? Thanks you guys for this show. I got an email this morning from AC Infinity telling me my humidifier would be shipped in May. Pigeons I wrote back and thanked them for being a sponsor.

Great freakin show guys. One of the best yet. I recently was telling a growmie how one of my biggest things is "sequencing" my tasks. Like not being able to flower because u haven't cloned or lack of supplies which usually leads to another task having to be put off or done sooner than expected.
I always plan everything out now and always keep a journal.

You can always clone anytime in flower. Better if the clones are not needed for the next round. As they will need to reveg.

For drying have you ever tried a probed moisture meter set on wood? Dry to like 12-13% and pop it in some grove bags. Lowers the guessing game.

I like to use one screen "scrog" 2 times .... once to train earlier in veg. then I let it grow. then once I flip to flower I take it off and redo it . amazing results . 2 major l.s.t. sessions for the most part . and defoliating to expose all the nugs and cut all the rubbish on the underside .

Did you heard about rehydration? When you want to keep weed a long time , you must dry at 7-9% water. when you want to use it again, put in jar a piece of apple or something else wet, wait half hour. of course do that if you must keep it during year, to next september

The first grow I ever did I grew on the roof of the porch during summer…. I couldn’t even see it properly I’d just water everyday with a hose from the ground. I never added nutes not once. After a while it was huge so I got up there with pliers and literally broke it at the base and bent it in half and tied the broken end down. I kept up watering from the ground. Kept this up for about 4 months there about. Eventually I got up on the roof to get it down and ended up with nearly 3lbs of weed. Not bad for my first grow no fertiliser No anything.

This seems to be where I am having my biggest trouble. Growing is easy. I grew up on a small 4.5 acre farm. I get to harvest and it's like falling down a steep hill. Follow all recommend practices and it doesn't slap like I'm thinking it should. Could be the genetics, but prior to harvest, everything is as it should be.

I got 2 wy-kiki in flower now. One stretch 3x but one stretch like 0.25x got them out the same pack. The other 2 phenos I haven't flipped yet are really slow growing and short compared to the first 1

I prefer to transplant before the roots have hold of the medium. This way I can gently allow the roots regain a more natural growth in its larger pot. When doing HST its nice to have that space for root growth.

Hey love to here some different way train and when love hear this i am in mid flower i am still doing some basic bending and you will be suprized how much training you can do that will stress out the plant that can actually make the plant produce different tricomes due to the high and extreme stress abd doing it at the right time can make your canopy explode up full buds

That time you switch from drying to curing is purely personal preference and you can play around with a bunch of different techniques but the real question is if you grew some fire pack or not. You can mess up the dry/cure but you have to make mistakes to learn. Washing buds can help your mess ups or bird shit covered nugs. Good luck. 👍
