Because of this show me and my son play almost every day now. I use perilous wilds, the chaos chart from gm mythic em, and a few oracle's from ironsworn. We lost our first characters the other day. Allow me to sum up our game... We were playing in a shadowrun style world with aliens In, because why not. So we took a job in Tokyo and got stuck there. We arranged an evac from airport but the dice decided we needed an interrupt scene first. A bunch of poor dice rolls and very character-driven (aka stupid) decisions later and we were zooming down the runway in a high-jacked private jet. We had pilot and Co-pilot tied up. My cyber hacker was in pilot seat and our "hireling/crew member", a yellow, cyborg-lizard humanoid was co-piloting. My son who was playing deadpool was hanging out of the door being held by his underpants by a large humanoid shark (our crews muscle) aiming a bazooka at the police road block half way down the runway... Will he destroy it and make a path? Will I be able to pull up the plane in time?? Nope. His bazooka shot hit the floor in front of us, took out the front landing gear and we slid into the barricade at god knows what speed. And a half dozen security vehicles go up in a mushroom shaped cloud of heat and fire fuelled by jet fuel. Everybody died Instantly. However I gave deadpool a death roll due to his regeneration. The Emulator is genius in my opinion. I remember how much work it was as a DM to turn player character decisions into some kind of story arc. Yes you can railroad them but the emergent story is so much more interesting. The PCs themselves will feed you ideas and weaving their own volition into your machinations takes a huge load off of prep time. However, with Mythic, You can 1) take a back seat and just roll dice as acting GM. Or 2) Play a character or a party of PCs and let the dice fall where they may. I think that it it super cool to take your hand off the wheel and Play out an Adventure based on random tables. Tables that you can influence, of course. Super Cool.
As soon as you started to talk about Ironsworn a HUGE grin started appearing on my face. You have no idea, how incredible this is for me! I continued to play Ironsworn, got many supplements, partially out of curiousity sparked by you, tried other systems and even tried making some solo versions myself. I found your series only a few weeks ago and since then I’ve purchased both the GM emulator and a copy of Savage Worlds and my gaming table has been all the better for it.
That moment of joy when I saw the notification of a new video. That moment of satisfaction once I was done looking it. I am glad to see you back and I am waiting for all those great content to come. Keep up the entertaining and instructive work.
Welcome back Trevor. I've been soloing and reading about soloing since Mythic first came out as a single book and I have to say that this is the most comprehensive and easy to follow review/explanation of the Emulator I've ever seen or read. Very well done! Stay safe.
OMFG UA-cam, WHY DIDN'T YOU ALERT ME OF THIS!? I HAVE YOUR STUPID ALARM CHECKED... (In all seriousness, I'm glad I randomly checked this channel for updates, and it is great to see you back Trevor... Even if UA-cam has ensured I am a few months behind the curve.....)
What a great overview on Mythic, it's for sure an amazing GM emulator. I'd like to thank you for the experience that was the first season of Myself and Die. I've got so inspired and motivated that I started my own UA-cam series playing solo. My videos are in Portuguese since I'm from Brazil, It's been an amazing experience. Thanks for everything. Looking forward to see Arn again, exploring the Ironlads.
Hell yes, it's so exciting to see you back, Mr. Devall! I'm actually just about to finish Season 1 of MM&D and I'm jazzed as hell to hear Season 2 is a-comin'! Also, your series definitely sold me on the Mythic GM Emulator and all of its surrounding books; the Fate Chart is a brilliant concept and I love having the NPC Motivation chart to just spark ideas. You've been a huge inspiration; after seeing your show I've been hard at work trying to see if I can start a podcast doing something similar, and it's got me more excited than any other idea I've ever worked on, and I'm really hoping it comes to fruition. Thank you so much for this tiny peek behind the curtain and showing us how things work in greater detail!
Great to see you back Trevor. I also really like the Mythic GM Emulator. It has really helped me being a better GM. I also agree, that it's very important to just go with the very first thought you get then using it. Looking forward to the new season.
I really appreciate you doing reviews of these. Ive seen this used, but never explained. It helps. Its too frequent that we spend money on something that seems cool, but we get it and it just does something in a way that seems so backwards we end up never using it. (Probably would NOT be the case with this, which I only know because of this video.) When you add that to the money we spend on games we never end up playing, that gets expensive, especially for the Covid economy.
Oh cool to have you back ! Thanks for the show wich i loved to watch during my lockdown in France. I learned a lot about solo gaming, thanks to you. Nice to watch those behind the scene too.
Good to see you back and healthy. This was a really good video. I’ve been interested in Mythic for a while and this is an excellent, practical summary. I look forward to seeing the other videos in the series. I am really excited to see your Ironsworn campaign. Stay safe.
In passing you mentioned there were not any events that acted upon threads ( “as it turned out it never happened” 11:04) but I think it did once. One of my favorite parts of the story when you had an interrupted scene, random event at 7 min into episode 12 “close a thread” and we got a great part of the story where the contract on Simon is renounced. Thanks for the great content
I'm so psyched that you are going to use ironsworn. I just found the rule set and can't find an example that isn't 2 hrs long. This supplemental series is helpful thanks!
I started watching your show in the midst of quarantine, and it inspired me to play my own sci-fi adventures with the Mythic Emulator and Stars Without Number. Needless to say that discovering your show and GM Emulator bring me peace and joy in this strange and interesting times.
Well that was an excellent, and simple look at the Mythic GM Emulator. Even without having the series to see it in action, definitely good enough to give an idea if it is the rules system for you. 👍
I loved the explanation, I'm just starting in this solo world and I find this video inspiring. And I'm so excited you decided to go with Ironsworn in season 2! I can't wait! I just discovered the game two days ago, and I was using its tables to play a little FAE adventure on my own. Thanks!
Oh I’m really excited we’re getting a season 2! I just found out about this series 3 days ago and I’m on episode 8 now, I’m really excited to try playing alone, I don’t really know anyone who would be interested in playing with me (and tbh I’m a little too shy to RPG with someone, its weird I know) but anyway I am enjoying the story of Simon so much! Love from Egypt x
Oh he returns! what a nice surprise, glad to see you’re healthy and safe Trevor and welcome back . Hope everyone stays safe, during these strange times to say the least. Thanks for the explanation on mythic. Btw I can’t help but see the guitar in the background, will we ever get to hear a tune? 🎵
Thanks Trevor for doing this series. You have inspired me to try playing solo. I have purchased the Mythic GM Emulator and the Une NPC emulator and have just started my first solo game. Look forward to a new series! :)
Thanks, matey. An absolutely excellent intro to the use of Mythic DM Emulator. I'm going to make good use of that to help me get to grips with RPG gaming again. I've been away from the scene for far too long. Not played since Uni days!!! SUBBED!
So good to see you again Trevor! I was actually just thinking about you and this series a bit ago, seeing as I'm doing more solo roleplaying lately (as I'd imagine many are, haha). This is a great idea for a supplemental series! I know you always said Me, Myself, and Die wasn't intended as a "how to," but these top notch videos do act as a great introduction to solo gaming. I think a few videos like this will be super useful. And, of course, I am so pleased to hear that season 2 is still in the works! I've used Mythic many a time, but so far have not tried Ironsworn. I'm eager to see how it plays out for you. Best of wishes friend! Thanks for your continued entertainment, and stay safe!
i finally sat and read through this system after a while of it sitting in my collection. its really ingenious for solo gaming. i was thinking about expanding the ideas in the system by also using the Tome of Adventure Design.
Thank you so much for starting this series. I have been slowly learning more and more about solo RPG play and this series boosted my interest immensely. It's so well produced and your acting for the characters is amazing. I also really appreciate that you followed up explaining the tools you used for this first season. This gave me a great example to see how a solo RPG can be played and has me excited to run myself a game. I'm excited to get caught up in season 2 and see how Ironsworn works compared.
Love this series. As a LONG time GM I am very interested in this idea. Because of your show, my wife and I got all the books from Drivethru. We are going to try a GMless game as two players. Hope it is doable.
@@shaneconner5659 thanks for the info. Listened to the first show and good stuff. I think I will learn some things. Side note: I am already a subscriber to Matt's youtube. Love his Star Wars plays!
@@shaneconner5659 well I blew through the podcast. I talked to the boss and because of MM&D, ATO and you, I got the hardcover of Ironsworn. We cannot wait to try it out! I cannot wait for the next Season of Me, Myself and Die!
@@stephenreuille5204 That's awesome! In all fairness, I haven't started playing it yet. I've never played a tabletop rpg, (alone or in a group) and I'm struggling understanding the flow and mechanics of it all.
Hey, glad to have you back! 😃 I hope you're safe and well. Have you had the chance to take a look at Variations I and II? They're a very good addition/upgrade to the GME. Very, very good! Can't wait for your Ironsworn series!
Love it! Thank you! I've enjoyed your first season and I'm just about to start a solo RPG adventure with the Mythic GM Emulator. It looks fantastic at helping generate ideas for game play improv.
An alternative that I've found extremely helpful is consulting a tarot deck for every question. Once you learn the broad meanings of the 4 Minor suits, the 10 face values, and the 21 Major characters, you can combine cards in a given order for some incredibly nuanced results
Great to see you again Trevor! I hope you are keeping well in this bizarre time. Thanks very much for your deeper dive of the Mythic system, it has been a great tool to add to my RPG toolbox, and as a result I’ve been running two games with it. One for my daughter (9 years old), and another one with her, and her two cousins (aged 9 & 6). I find it great for their adventures because they are often interpreting the rolls. Looking forward to the next supplement on Perlious Wilds... Have you seen the new product the author of that one is testing? I find it a more fleshed out system for creating dungeons, but haven’t tried building one on the fly with it.
re: "Judge Food" - My hypothetical NPC hireling dreams of being an Iron Chef and will forevermore do a full Dungeon Meshi on any plant or animal my hypothetical party comes across as to its flavor and nutritional value. ;) [Actually, I've been wanting to do a Dungeon Meshi inspired game for awhile so... maybe not so hypothetical!] Also - totally hype about this series and upcoming Season Two, but can we talk for a sec about how dope your place is?
I don't know why it is still entertaining even though I know how Mythic works (mostly) to the point that I'm considering using it again. PS: I decided that Mythic became a bit cumbersome and went for the easier (but still good) system, MUNE. Anyway, will you do a supplemental video on Ironsworn at all? I downloaded it after you mentioned you'll be using that system, but it was a bit of a read lol (too busy running my solo D&D). Watching someone explain it is always better :)
Thanks for this. We try this tool for ourselves at home but it´s a little sad that Mythic is only in english. I understand and speak the language very well but of course we play in our native language, so sometimes it´s a bit interrupting. Greetings from Germany 🙂
I decided to start using Mythic with Basic Fantasy RPG, and it kinda threw me through a loop (with the Fate Chart at least). The first scene in the Adventure "Gold in the Hills" is interrupted (rolled a 2 on a d10), and I move away from the current thread for the Event Focus. The only thread I have is Ellarwen and Aura (a pregenerated character) traveling to the Old Dwarven Mine to investigate and search for a band of goblins called the Black Fangs (per the synopsis in the "Gold in the Hills" adventure). I'm at a loss because I'm not sure how to move away from a thread when I only have one thread. 😅 Back to the Event Action and Subject: Event action: Cruelty Event subject: Masses Cruelty (of the) Masses made me think of an evil cleric at first, but then I remembered Ellarwen's backstory. She was sold into slavery and escaped. So my fighter elf kinda had this flood of memories coming back of her previous torment. The "cruelty" being the slavery and torture, and the "masses" meaning there were more people other than Ellarwen that were taken as slaves. I then added that Ellarwen was taken because she was different - being an elf. Which makes me think that's why the king killed her family. Maybe the king dislikes elves and sold them as slaves. It's my very first time using Mythic, but is that a good interpretation? Figured I'd ask the master of solo RPGs himself. 😄
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG nice. I was reading it today. Got caught up on ironsworn after your latest video and i think i will give it a go. Never tried Solo RPG. Your content is great, man. Cheers!
Have read it. has a better fate check in my opinion, it's a revamp, on the fly, non table check, but still reflect the essence of previous fate check perfectly. The chaos factor is a bit off, but you can always homebrew it a little, which they suggest anyway in book mythic variation 1. It also has The NPC behavior check, which a bit complex and can be a little daunting at first, but can be useful if you want a true random game, my advice is to use it only on essential NPC or it will bog your game a lot. The other 3 new check that they offer is not essential, i think. Make sure to read the final chapter where they put an example game, just so you can get the feel how the new check system feel.
The point i dont understand is how I use all of this in other systems and settings. How does this system combines the fate chart with the rules and settings of pathfinder, for example?
I stuck asking the right question. festival I decided to use the system to resolve all interaction. So I think I only roll for my character (marvel 90’s version of black knight). He was on the sky flying with his atomic steed when his gear pick up an alert buzzing nearby. I already know some hydra’s agent try to steal some experiments on a Shield secret facility. I already decided they need 7 turn to open the locked doors and 3 more to escape. I roll a d10 and got an interrupt scene. So as black knight approche two hydra shoot at him. I find it possible they let someone outside just in case. So they fire. But if I tell « Do they it me » surely the yes is the more interesting. But it’s very unlikely between the fact I’m up in the sky and they are trained shooter but more kind to fail than anything. On the other hand if I ask « Do I dodge the shot » the yes is less interesting and it’s a near shire thing that I do. So I take the first option and they fail. So my next question as I fire have the same issue. If I ask « Do I hit them » between the fact I have a véhicule that can fire and they make them obvious by foreign at me, and that I’m in higher ground, yes it is. Very likely. Can they escape the shoot seem more interesting, but give more chance to a no than a yes. So I go for the first and hit them. I ask « did that made some huge noise » where the yes was the more interesting and was very likely, yes it did. So those inside know someone is coming. Next turn I leave the atomic steed and goes to the door. Once on the other side I change the chaos factor to 6 and rôle a 5. An altered scene. so I think someone waiting for me. And attack me as I enter. I imagine a more imposing goon. But once more how do I phrase the question. « Did he arm me ? » seem the right one. But I’m not sure. So I decide to asking you. So sorry for the long text and the trouble.
first thing i thought of with judge food that it might be posioned and the npc ate a bite of it, became sick and they like WHOA WTH and they judge the food and it was the food that made me keel over!
I know this has been a while but as someone getting into dnd, and solo play at that. i had a question regarding setting up scenes. would one always roll to evaluate a scene after initially creating the starting event? i noticed in some of the new scenes you didn’t roll to see if a scene would become altered or modified. just letting it play out how the initial random event roll set it up to be. or maybe you did and i completely missed it lol. if you do not evaluate the scene every time. how would you know when to do so, or when it would be appropriate? thank you for your time.
Just out of curiosity, can Mythic be used for any genre, or does it presuppose a fantasy setting? I am new to solo RPing, having discovered Ironsworn a few months ago, but I would be interested in other settings/ genres like perhaps Supers.
Any genre. In fact the Mythic Variations book details charts and tables for a bunch of different genres. There's a link to DrivethruRPG in my show notes!
I really enjoyed these videos, and it has inspired me to try to play some Solo adventures (I made a couple of characters in Traveller and I already feel like I played some sort of solo adventure :P) I noticed that you use the Mythic Emulator together with UNE. Have you ever tried CRGE? I've browsed the book a bit and seems similar to Mythic, but both UNE and CRGE were written by the same author. I'm still trying to decide whether to use Mythic or CRGE, and how different they feel to each other.
I have a question about the Fate Chart. Say you decide Chaos Rank 5 with a 50/50 chance, what happens when you roll a 50 or a 49 or 51? I take it if you roll a 11 to 50 it will be a yes and if you roll a 51 to 90 that the answer is a no.
Oh my god he's BACK!
"Remember seeing other people?"
yes... so glad I don't have to any more :-)

What a lesson Trevor!
Your creativity and interpretation are amazing!
You are a inspiration!
I didn’t know I needed this video until it came out! I’ve been avoiding using Mythic because it was complicated, now it makes sense. Thank you!
Best explanation of how to use the Mythic GME I've seen.
Great to see you back Trevor. I also really like the Mythic GM Emulator. It has really helped me being a better GM. I also agree, that it's very important to just go with the very first thought you get then using it.
Looking forward to the new season.
Fantastic! I've had a few people asking me about solo RPGs, this will be a great resource to have them check out! Great to have you back, Trevor!
Great to see you back Trev! Looking forward to Season 2! Ironsworn, yeah yeah!
Awesome explanation. Cannot wait for season 2!!!
YEY - Welcome back. Thanks for the tips. Look forward to season two!
Oh cool to have you back ! Thanks for the show wich i loved to watch during my lockdown in France. I learned a lot about solo gaming, thanks to you. Nice to watch those behind the scene too.
I just got into solo RPG, and this is the best and most succinct explanation of the entire system I could find. Thank you so much.
Good to see you're back . I enjoy your series. You're fluid and free-form style helped me with my solo games.
Great summary of the emulator. Watching you use it in Season 1, and hearing your explanation makes it so much more approachable.
Just got the Mythic GM Emulator for Christmas and I'm pumped to try it out!
Trevor: _"Remember seeing other people?"_
Me, almost November/2020: _"Huh? People? What is it? Is it edible?"_
SEASON TWO!!!! Love it.
Just getting into this hobby I know this video n others are like 3 years old but you have helped me tons, Thanks
This video was so helpful, getting my head around using Mythic GME now. Thank you for making this and Me, Myself & Die. It's so enjoyable to watch!
AHHHH HE'S BACK!
Also, you should look into Mythic Variations 2. I feel it simplifies the fate mechanic significantly, while also adding more detail.
Thanks Trevor, I really enjoy the show, I am at work when it hits UA-cam, but I never miss an episode... looking forward to next week!
Thanks Trevor for doing this series. You have inspired me to try playing solo. I have purchased the Mythic GM Emulator and the Une NPC emulator and have just started my first solo game. Look forward to a new series! :)
Great! Content very important for us, solo players. Thanks!
Thanks, matey. An absolutely excellent intro to the use of Mythic DM Emulator.
I'm going to make good use of that to help me get to grips with RPG gaming again. I've been away from the scene for far too long. Not played since Uni days!!!
SUBBED!
Good to see you again, Trevor! I prefer simpler solo engines but Mythic GME is a classic and I usually suggest to begin soloing with it
I’m going to miss event focuses and meanings. Great video. I’m also going to miss exploding dice. Good job man, you sound like a good group GM too. :)
Longtime GM, just found your video. I love your energy and delivery, great stuff :)
Brilliant. Thanks for taking the tike to explain it.
Listen to the "Ask the Oracle" podcast ;)
@@shaneconner5659 thanks for the info. Listened to the first show and good stuff. I think I will learn some things. Side note: I am already a subscriber to Matt's youtube. Love his Star Wars plays!
@@stephenreuille5204 Yeah I really like it. It's a pretty good overview of how he intended to run a gm less coop
If you play using just ironsworn, I'd keep perilous wilds close by, just for the creature chart. Good for wild monsters.
Hey, glad to have you back! 😃 I hope you're safe and well. Have you had the chance to take a look at Variations I and II? They're a very good addition/upgrade to the GME. Very, very good! Can't wait for your Ironsworn series!
The Legend is back :)
Love it! Thank you! I've enjoyed your first season and I'm just about to start a solo RPG adventure with the Mythic GM Emulator. It looks fantastic at helping generate ideas for game play improv.
Oh, and my brain keeps getting tangled between hearing "Mord the Orc" and "Mork from Ork." LOL.
Hah!
An alternative that I've found extremely helpful is consulting a tarot deck for every question. Once you learn the broad meanings of the 4 Minor suits, the 10 face values, and the 21 Major characters, you can combine cards in a given order for some incredibly nuanced results
Helps me so much, thank you!
Amazing channel name. Amazing
Judge food - "There's nothing to eat but maggoty bread"
Awesome! Eagerly anticipating your return, any rough ETA on episode 1?
one of the mythic variations books simplifies the fate chart.. so its not a chart anymore.. and just as good
You were missed, sir!
Judge + food = Judging a chili contest. Orcs vs. goblins vs.elves
Nice
That was helpful. I am glad I found out about This channel
Subbed! These are great, thank you!
in 2020, the game Mork borg was introduced, and has a very interesting "atmosphere". I'd love to watch you run a game of Mork Borg.
Man, OMG... D&D is a lot but... THAT'S WHY IT'S INTERESTING! I AM ALMOST TO STORY TELLING!!!!! 🤩
I find it a more fleshed out system for creating dungeons, but haven’t tried building one on the fly with it.
re: "Judge Food" - My hypothetical NPC hireling dreams of being an Iron Chef and will forevermore do a full Dungeon Meshi on any plant or animal my hypothetical party comes across as to its flavor and nutritional value. ;) [Actually, I've been wanting to do a Dungeon Meshi inspired game for awhile so... maybe not so hypothetical!]
Also - totally hype about this series and upcoming Season Two, but can we talk for a sec about how dope your place is?
I thought he turned into cannibalism OMG! run!
Can use Mythic to any ttrpg.
Wow i cant wate four you to play iron sworn ive ben reading it im even looking forward to playing it my self id like to see it play out
Thanks for this. We try this tool for ourselves at home but it´s a little sad that Mythic is only in english.
I understand and speak the language very well but of course we play in our native language, so sometimes it´s a bit interrupting.
Greetings from Germany 🙂
A list that is composed of characters is a string!
Back to the Event Action and Subject:
Event action: Cruelty
Event subject: Masses
Cruelty (of the) Masses made me think of an evil cleric at first, but then I remembered Ellarwen's backstory.
Yeah! Always go with your gut instinct. You will subconsciously start to put the pieces together.
Great video. Have had any chance to check the mythic variations 2?
Yup!
You should have FAR more subs
Damn, I want to watch this video but I don't want to spoil myself, I'm only on episode 7!
The point i dont understand is how I use all of this in other systems and settings. How does this system combines the fate chart with the rules and settings of pathfinder, for example?
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude
I wish I had discovered Mythic 10 years ago. I would be so far into a solo campaign instead of just starting one.
What’s the difference between this one and the red book with the same name?
I really enjoyed these videos, and it has inspired me to try to play some Solo adventures (I made a couple of characters in Traveller and I already feel like I played some sort of solo adventure :P)
I noticed that you use the Mythic Emulator together with UNE. Have you ever tried CRGE? I've browsed the book a bit and seems similar to Mythic, but both UNE and CRGE were written by the same author. I'm still trying to decide whether to use Mythic or CRGE, and how different they feel to each other.
Trevor, have you ever tried the Mythic deck or the Game Master's Apprentice? Have thought's on a deck based emulators in general?
Nah, I’m more of a chart guy than a deck guy. Old habits 😁
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG same but am trying new things ;-p but, like an old dog ... lol.
I prefer Sci-Fi or horror themed RPG games. Does the Mythic system translate well with these genres, or is there another system I should look into?
It works with any genre, but Mythic Variations has tables specifically for those alternative genres. Link in the description below :)
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Thank you very much
I'm a bit confused, is this just an RNG way of saying yes or no to a question? Like flipping a coin with chosen weights?
I have a question about the Fate Chart. Say you decide Chaos Rank 5 with a 50/50 chance, what happens when you roll a 50 or a 49 or 51? I take it if you roll a 11 to 50 it will be a yes and if you roll a 51 to 90 that the answer is a no.
Something like that, yeah. The numbers all change based on the odds and the chaos factor, but that’s the basic gist.
Also, see the next supplemental episode :)
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Thank you! :)
So.. I need a percent die for this?
Yes, percentile dice, or 2d10
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Thanks man, i just got my Mythic from Amazon. Your video made it pretty clear how to use also. Great content.
