When Burial sampled Metal Gear Solid

- So I was watching a video on Ableton stuff and stumbled on this gem. (I didn't make this, all I did was cut out a bit that was interesting to me, but you can watch the whole thing at • Video )
plot twist: the uploader is burial
He said he used Sound forge, so no chances.
Aftermath Music he doesn't use sound forge much anymore
Monir, yeah thats true. He also used some daws for some of the songs in Untrue.
I wish it was so i could tell him how much his music means to me
@@one_man_community how do you know that? Where did you read it? Thanks 💕
I knew it! Always thought that sounded so much like the mgs2 intro... :p
When the ray J sample starts and the elements all come together in a sorta stripped-back version of Archangel 😲 i feel like i need to hear a full version of that 😂
Woah holy shit the man himself hearted it. Big love
I can’t claim to be the original creator of this clip unfortunately! It’s from a longer video that included breakdowns of other songs but it’s since been deleted from UA-cam. 😕
@unadopted that sucks! Remember what it was called by any chance?
I've listened to that song about 100 times. Finding out that it's Metal Gear Solid and Ray J was... unexpected.
Burial was touched by God
God was touched by burial
lol
show me God music
Just thinking about how he used Sound Forge to make this also blows my mind.
plot twist: after looking into it for ages and believing it for a while I now very very much doubt he did use Sound Forge
He used Sound Forge for all but one track. I know a couple of guys who started making music in Sound Forge and Acid.
@@LASHH9669 i agree - total bullshit story in my opinon. how the fck should that work...
@@GabREAL1983 Jon Hopkins still uses sound forge (well, he did for Immunity) xlr8r.com/gear/in-the-studio-jon-hopkins/
@@GabREAL1983 all it takes is a lot of talent and ambition - both of which burial has. you can make good things with minimal amounts of software. look at the amazing art people make in ms paint as an example. and, as much as i love burial, his music is not *that* complex purely in terms of production. you could make it in audacity if you wanted to.
Burial is actually a fucken genius! his style is so unique. Hopefully we'll get a third album from him!
Antidote Audio You should also take a look at Sorrow, he's great also. His tracks Embrace, and Kalypso are awesome personally.
He releases an ep every couple of years.
he's dead....
jsut kiddin... no, he's not dead.
i heard something about an album soon... who knows
The seamlessness of this video is impressive and chill-inducing
It’s astonishing how he mixes all the songs from different songs and video games and makes them into one song. He’s so mysterious, his songs are mysterious. That’s what makes Burial so interesting.
He mixes all the songs from different songs and makes them into one song? Ikr, how did he ever come up with that? It really is what makes him *so* interesting.
Plot twist: I'm using a little known technique called sarcasm here. It's called sampling. Thousands upon thousands of producers have been doing it since the 80s, across dozens of genres. DJ Shadow for instance famously constructed his classic album Endtroducing... entirely from samples in 1996. Many, many artists have done it since (and dare I say it before), let alone using samples at all.
Fellas, this is kind of a tutorial on how sampling works.
A sonic alchemist.
Burial completed Metal Gear Solid with no hands and his eyes closed.
This video gives me goosebumps
only Burial can mix MGS and Ray J in a song and make it an absolute hit
This feels so right
Burial is a master sampling.
Samson G bless
i just watched this like 4 times over
This is insane, my brother
Is the snare a fuckin tennis racquet?
that's the part of the magic, you need to pick up right things and split em like Burial did/doing,
but it's crazy when he did all these crazy tracks like Archangel, insane respect to Burial 4ever.
crazy how this is getting me emotional lol
:o
My life is now complete. I've seen how this masterpiece was made.
Yeah , you haven't though.
I personally am not a big fan of the high pitched vocal samples, but the drums are just my favorite on Untrue. I admire unorthodox drum patterns, and the fact he had to do each drum loop per hand in SoundForge makes it even better.
I am a huge fan of the vocal samples now
@@ethhics character development
@@ethhics Proud of your growth, son.
Harry Gregson-Williams is Burial
I FUCKING KNEW IT! DAMMIT, ALL THIS TIME, I *_KNEW_* IT!
Does somebody know where I can find burial samples/kicks snare etc
I remade it too and made the project file available. And did not sample the original drums but built everything from scratch :) ua-cam.com/video/o41Y9OiCFYI/v-deo.htmlm56s
Crazy to think that Metal gear solid and Ray J apparently goes well together
I loved MGS 2, how did I not notice?
he sampled mgs2 not once, ghost hardware has sample of freedom to decide
Can’t get over 8 seconds onwards. Music comes from a different place. Given that archangel sampled this bit of music and made something truly special boggles the mind.
Do you know which software he uses here to make it?
@@zuzannahardej2371 burial? not sure. the maker of this video? ableton live suite 9
@@fredrickzoller5643 ok, thank u :) I meant the maker of this video, sorry. I heard everywhere that Burial used SoundForge
Damn, the Weeknd really took inspiration from from J. I can definitely hear the influence
Wait.... His biggest song he didn't even know music theory to write his own score, meanwhile brostep artists compose everything themselves 🤦🏻
This exact sequence would go bonkers on a live set holy shit
burial used sound forge by sony to make his tracks
God, this gives me chills.
Burial seems to listen to a lot of crappy music to source samples ahaha
Strings go soooooo hard
you can call me ray, and you can call me j
Magnificent edit! Kudos to your enthusiasm and curiosity! Amazing video right here!
crazy awesome
4 years & no one discovered you in this comment section.
Woah it's you here!
can anyone help me find the original video
Drum Kit?!
I would like to see video of reaction from Harry Gregson-Williams, fr
What ?
one of my favorite songs from the album!
what's about kinda copyrights?
its the only explanation
did anyone perhaps have an isoleted clip or whatever, of that intro specific of the metal gear when he throws himself of the bridge please?
It’s on the MGS2 Original Soundtrack album
the coolest people in the world grew up with MGS 1-3
Do you know which software he uses here to make it?
@@zuzannahardej2371 Ableton live I guess
@@zuzannahardej2371 he used tri angle
u will now using the same shit?
If you enjoyed this, Resident Advisor recently released a great video showing more of the samples behind the album: ua-cam.com/video/Et5B-zfAIIo/v-deo.html
0:43 moment when you listen it.. nuts.
Bruv, if youre still here? I fucking love this!
Finally i found this video after 2 years ago omg
When I grow up I want to be Burial Mommy
how do you do the drums?
where did you get the drum samples?
metal gear?
psycho mantis?
The 24 dislikes are Alan Walker fans.
That picture of the kid on the laptop isn't Burial, someone just uploaded that on his last.fm page. I believe a lighter version was later found on some guys Flickr account.
briliant, thank you
the pieces are coming together 🤯
So badass
This is awesome holy shit i never realized this
Burial does some creative shit. Damn. The nearest thing i can think of is a weird sample I caught from 1997 in a jungle track that had a bell sound from a cartoon that had a train coming.
Burial is everything.
impressive work man!
where can i find the clip at the beginning?
It's the opening cutscene from Metal Gear Solid 2.
@@unadopted thank you man, i couldnt find it ahah
Awesome :D
Oh, the original video doesn't exist anymore. :'(
Oh no. That is sad, was a great video! :(
Jesus Christ, this is such an awesome video. Too bad the original was taken down.
Yeah the original had similar breakdowns of other tracks and was really good. Not sure why it was removed. :(
What a gamer
Wooow this was an amazing video!!
wow that's so insightful !! thanks it's given me loads of ideas !!
thanks for uploading. instant fav
simple yet effective
Seriously amazing remake man.
mind blown
Incredible..
That intro, WOW
Are these the stems for Archangel? Like how did they get the individual parts? Or is someone just a master at recreation?
The person who made the original video (not me, see link in description to watch the whole thing) is just really good at remaking this stuff. As far as I know Burial didn’t actually use Ableton Live, he did it all in SoundForge instead.
@@unadopted Do you know the name of the dude who did the original video? It's gone now and I'm trying to track it down.
Oh no, it’s gone? That’s a shame, it was a great video. :( I don’t have the channel link unfortunately but you can see in the top right of the video that his name was David Rodriguez. Not sure if that helps much.
No he isn't.
:'(
WOW !
LOL
thankyou for this!
my god!!!
genius.
hehe
my god!!!
masterpiece
Genius.
Well done!!!
💙💙💙
and he mixed all this in Soundforge, to make that famous album!
even more unexpected fact
Where's the "tell me I belong" sample though?
+Zion Burrell He's not actually sampling the word "belong" its little bits of words chopped and put together very cleverly to make it sound like he's saying it... wheres the faint "archangel" sample from? No one ever talks about that one... lol
Yes!
No one ever talks about that one!
Pixel Dust Weird right? Being that its the song title and all haha
What burial song is this?
Burial: Archangel (Hyperdub 2007)
Sandstorm bro. U don't even read?
four tet is burial
Coit no he isn’t four tet sucks
Cant believe he wrote untrue in 2 weeks
FlameSp33y AMV and this is a bad thing?
@@qwertypop343 no not at all, it's a good thing. I should know I have it.
FlameSp33y AMV its incredible, really.
@@qwertypop343 agreed, I love burials music, I even used a Mt eden remix in my latest video of burials archangel song
FlameSp33y AMV ah you produce music also? they say mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery I suppose...ha
