make tutorial on everything, and use this style of tutoring, don't complicate like other videos. i know tasker know, but my first days, it was hard to get through the docs and less videos about it. well done on this!
Yeah.. guys.. I know this is late to say, but the thing is I've had tasker on my phone for years now and never got to use it regularly because I didn't understand what I was being shown in the videos. It's a common "failing" of a lot of UA-cam tutorials.. especially around anything tech... that the builder and/or programmers will assume certain things don't need to be explained. The thing is, If someone is new to anything, it's just going to be a jumbled mess of pieces to try to put together until they can understand how they work, no matter how smart they are. More importantly, "why" they work the way they do. What would be really good to know is not just how to create variables in order to put them into profiles ... (I have been taught that pieces of text can be made and put into slots) ... but why they are handy in the first place and, why they function in tandem with the rest. It would be nice If this kind of explanation was at the front of everything, for all of the aspects of creating an automated task. I'm not at all trying to be harsh.. after all, there are way worse examples of confusing tutorials out there. These, i don't feel are confusing so much as they are just over simplifying things á tad too much when they need explanation. This is a very original system. There aren't other programs out there that are relatable, that are going to give people any way to be familiar with this kind of system. It's almost on the same level as programing your phone with a language like python, but it's all wrapped in a gui to make it "user friendly"... but gui's won't explain why you want or need to use variables. :) Just want to add my two sense. Especially because, after all this time, I don't think most people are going to connect with this app because of the learning curve with the brisk and brief setup videos. Which is a shame because it's a really rad program. A little more background on these elements that are working together in the app would help tremendously.
Thank you very much for the valuable feedback! Variables show up pretty much everywhere in Tasker, so I thought that if you have a good understanding of what they are and how to use them, you could then figure out what to do with them if you come across them in Tasker. But as an example, here's what you can do with variables: www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/di56he/howto_protip_use_variables_for_states/ They are used in many many places though, so it's tough to come up with a single example that would make you understand all their uses. I tried to focus on making it super clear that a variable is just a place to store some text. What you do with it depends very much on your use cases :) Let me know if you still have trouble figuring it out and maybe if you figured it out already give me an example of something I could say to make it clearer for everyone? Thank you again!
I understand about variables and how they work. What I was hoping to learn, and can't find anywhere, is how to set a variable based on the current state of something that does not have a built in variable. I think I may be missing something and will slap myself when I learn the simple answer, but I can't figure this out and would appreciate an explanation. For example, I want a task action to happen if the torch is on at the time, but not happen if the torch is off at the time. How do I get the current state of the torch and/or set a variable that equals the state?
@@joaomgcd hey, thanks for the quick reply. This is not quite what I'm after (but still helpful, so thanks). However, I did finally realize that I could use the Custom Setting action to find out what I needed. 🙂
@@joaomgcd - no worries. I think maybe I wasn't clear in my question. What I meant to say was that I want to store the state in a variable, which I know how to do, but I don't know how to find out what the name of the state is. That is the part I was able to resolve by using Custom Settings. The find option on that action is very handy!

Loved the tutorial... 😍😍😍. Need one about the 'Array' thing too 😁 Have one doubt about the 'Variable Value' profile that, does the Tasker always check the value of the variable we set in the 'Variable Value' profile? For example, if the Media volume (%VOLM) is changed to different levels using the phone's volume button, can the Tasker detect the value of this Media volume and flash a certain predefined warning something like... Profile - Variable Value - %VOLM ~ 15, then run Task - Flash "Volume at Maximum" (where this flash Task with this text is created already) NB: not sure if you get what I'm trying to ask 😁😁
@@joaomgcd Wow, that's really a new information. I've been using some profiles and tasks which reads the Android logcat and perform the tasks. Lemme try this way too. And regarding the Arrays.. is a yes 😁😁
@@joaomgcd Yes it's working flawlessly. I tested this with lots of existing variables. Hi Joao, I have a question on the wifi connected state. This setting seems to require location access 24/7. Does this create significant battery drain? Any suggestion on how to use this state without having location pinged constantly? Thank you
The location isn't being pinged at all. :) Tasker just needs the location permission because it *could* get your approximate location just by checking your WiFi networks. It doesn't mean that it does. Hope this clarifies it!
@@joaomgcd thanks that definitely helps! Does the Wi-Fi checking take up a lot of battery? If I set 2 conditions. 1 for it to be Monday and 2 to check wifi connected. Will wifi be checked on Tuesday through Sunday?
@@catdaddyxoxo Hi. It doesn't take up much battery at all :) I'd say you would never notice it since Tasker gets notified by the system when your connection changes so it doesn't even have to check from time to time.
