I remember the Tweenies fondly, not only as one of my most frequently watched childhood shows but because my Mum also loved them and said they were her favourite. Years later I asked her what it was about them, and she said it was the way they taught children lessons.
My daughter was about six months old was The Tweenies first aired. I can remember how her face lit up when she saw it for the first time. She absolutely loved it from a baby through to her early school years. She had everything Tweenie, toys, clothes, her first little bike, bedroom theme. We went to see their live shows too. The videos also helped no end in the early stages of pregnancy with her sister who also became a huge fan. Really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for bringing back some wonderful, happy memories 😊😊
As a young child, I love the tweenies to the point that I had a tweenies themed bedroom, I'm talking bedsheets, curtains, lampshades, wallpaper- it was a lot
As a British child that grew up in the early 2000s/2010s I can confirm that the Tweenies are one of my most memorable childhood shows. Also, the iconic build a house song will forever be my favourite song from the Tweenies, as it has a very dear place in my heart to a friend of mine that is no longer with me, that song specifically holds a very sentimental time in my childhood. Also, if you haven’t yet, I would love to see a similar documentary on Mr Tumble, as the love I have for that series while growing up in a special-needs school where virtually all of my friends relied on sign language to communicate, will forever hold a place in my heart! Your video was absolutely amazing, and I hope you will be able to do more in the future!
3.30am and I’m watching a 45 minute documentary about the Tweenies. Absolutely no idea how I ended up here, from ASMR of all things. But I’m not complaining. What a fantastic video, loved it!! (Oh and Jake was always my favourite)
Same here, I had a little plastic mug with the Tweenies on them that I was attached to as a kid, and it’s still on my desk holding my colourful highlighters to this day!
Used to have to say the Tweenies was the first concert I went to, I went to see the enchanted toyshop in 2007. I also ended up naming my first dog after Milo.
Man people will definitely have a lot of nostalgia in them revisiting this show again, that’s for sure. Am amazing 43 minute video that reminds me of DefunctTV, wow!!! Great video and thanks for the nostalgia.
18:42: That basically sums up me putting up blinds in my house last week, but with profanity mixed in 19:01: Max: Don't say the word. Me: a slew of words, none that are child-friendly
I absolutely love this documentary Adam, you've done a brilliant job with this :) Like you, I grew up with the Tweenies because of my younger brother, and also like you, Fizz was my favourite closely followed by Milo, Jake and Bella - and yeah, Bella got on my nerves as well when I was younger
I remember The Tweenies. The outing ones were my favourite as a kid, such as the aquarium, the plane hanger and the police station. Max was my favourite character. I saw them live on stage in Dagenham as a kid, was an experience
Yeah I loved the Tweenies and found an Tweenies annual form 2005 in recent months I didn’t remeber I even had it and commented it on Milo’s voice actors TikTok and he loved it
I had the Tweenies Ready to Play PC game as a kid and I wrote a letter to Bella once about giving her a pot of cold porridge which was one million days old. XD
Even if the show had it's flaws, I will always still love Tweenies to this day. Max and the rest of the gang still make me laugh even today because, the episodes are suprisingly well written when they come up. Especially the going out episodes, they were always my favourite one's and, still learnt things from it I never knew about the world even today.
It was interesting to see an alternative perspective on 'The Tweenies'. Some other parents we knew at the time were very keen, but we really weren't. We enjoyed the anarchic and autonomous feel of 'Teletubbies' and were disappointed that this wasn't present in the Tweenies. We didn't like the presence of authority figures. All that said, it's interesting to see it from the other side and your points were enthusiastically made by some of our friends.
Having listened to the music section, I remember Best Friends Forever, vaguely remember Have Fun Go Mad, and still get Number 1 stuck in my head to this day. I'm 19. 😂
One of your talents is to make your audience interested. I was aware of The Tweenies but never took an interest. This is absorbing and I can't believe I watched the whole thing. BRILLTASTIC.
Great video brings back memories. My 1 year old niece loves the Tweenies she watches them alot she has some Tweenies DVDS and some Tweenies toys and Tweenies books and all the episode are on UA-cam for her to watch and when I go to my sisters house my niece is usually watching the Tweenies I can not believe she likes the Tweenies so much I thought she would be into more modern kids tv shows but no she loves Milo Bella Fizz and Jake.
One thing you didn't mention, but definitely alluded to, I think: A few of the episodes had either of the adults of the daycare go out into the real world, like the hospital episode and my favorite, London Boats
Firstly, no one but me and one of my colleagues at work remembers the fun song factory so I got so happy when you mentioned it! Secondly, if that’s the fizz doll that you can bring into water then I had the same one!!! 😭
Not many children’s properties let alone British ones can say they’ve toured arenas attended by thousands, between 2001-2003 was when that form of kids stage productions peaked, you had Tweenies in 2001, Bob the Builder in 2002 and then Thomas the Tank Engine in 2003, no better time for it.
Truly an iconic show. I didn't realise u til fairly recently that they had done live shows and obviously had to check them out. Theyon youtube and its a nostalgia fest. Still surprised how there aren't a lot of behind the scenes for this show, given its groundbreaking nature. They really did churn out episodes and content and had some iconic moments. And ine of my first exposures to theatre style, in one episode where fizz has a solo with some theatrical lighting and imagery. Definitely sparked something in me as i then went on to work in the industry. Still makes me smile when I see a coin op ride of these guys.
Remember Will and Iain doing are local panto and will coming out with a set of Tweenies feet on and telling the audience he was feeling a Tweenie bit tired.Iain is still playing dame all these years later
Yeah we have same favourite, I had the Christmas live video, my favourite the song is I believe in Christmas, and light of the world. And I had toy clock
When I was a kid Bella was my favourite. I think it was because so many of my friends were like her. Jake was my second favourite because he was the most relateable for me. I remember Milo being my least favourite because he was loud and overwhelming and I never got along well with people like that. Everyone used to think I was weird because Fizz wasn't my favourite. Literally everyone else I knew loved Fizz the best and hated Bella
I loved watching the Tweenies when I was younger and they still have a place in my heart today. I can relate to each of the characters, as I have had similar traits over the years.
I’d LOVE to know why fizz’s face changed shape. As a kid, I used to dislike her longer face compared to the later more rounder one. And why did they use those awful puppets when outside the nursery? I always found it so creepy 😂 Awesome video! You’ve got yourself a new fan ❤

I don't think Judy was in the episode but Max was and he didn't tell Bella to look after Jake she decided to do it. that made me start liking Bella more.
Adam martyn, growing up watching the tweenies, i always assumed that max and judy were co bosses in charge of the playgroup but watching the episode cross channel ferry max mentions that judy had given him the day off, hinting that judy must be the one in charge.
They could still be co-owners! Even if no one has seniority you still might say that, if that was the day they negotiated as her taking all the responsibility.
the tweenies 25 years man i feel old. i don't think anyone like bella, but jake is my favorite i always hate mello...and rizz. . . anyways i love that show when i was a little one and the fact it now 25 year old and me being 2 days older then it. . .what a show tho.
The Teletubbies (Original) are definitely top notch for me as my favourite kids TV classics, regardless of their weirdness gibberish language and scary moments (such as the Bear & Lion event). Also the Tweenies are most certainly top too, because we explore more about their personalities, like the way they fight and argue with each other over who’s best in some episodes. Milo was my all time favourite character and I sometimes find Bella a narcissist when she snitches on Milo or acts arrogant sometimes. TOP NOTCH GOLDEN TV IT WAS. Born in 2000 and it’s like the peak year of gold kids tv and music.😃😄🥳
You need to do a video on Play School, Adam. A very similar video to this one. Play School deserves the respect, being the one to lay the foundation of how children's television is depicted even today.
We actually had an adaptation of the Tweenies that aired here in the United States on Noggin in the early part of 2003 and only lasted for one season I didn’t think it was that bad because it had a variety of segments but I can see why people may have a difference of opinion
I loved Fizz - I didn't think Bella was worthy of my name she was so bossy 😂 😂 How come Teletubbies is still played on cbeebies now & not the Tweenies? I was watching it last week with my 2 year old nephew & Teletubbies came on!
I can't believe it's 25 years and I did grew up watching it touring my childhood. I remember seeing the image of Max as Jimmy Savile in the front newspapers at the time and tought to myself, what were they thinking?
My parents used to tell me I was bossy Bella and I would always get upset and say no I’m Fizz The Tweenies show at Wembley was also my first concert, I got the flashing pins and like a light up stick thing, I was really upset I wasn’t allowed a balloon until my dad showed me all the balloons on the ceiling
There are 2 moments of Tweenies I remember watching the first was an episode went the clock wouldn't work and the other saw Milo trick Jake into believing their was a ghost (Might be wrong)
Both that and Teletubbies were the most common preschool programmes played on CBBC, and later CBeebies when the preschool programmes moved there in 2002 on the blocks on BBC One and BBC Two from what I remember, although I remember the weekday afternoon strand on BBC One only showed the Tweenies, before going straight to the older children's programmes afterwards. But BBC Two had shown more preschool programmes than what BBC One did for some strange reason. I remember one morning back when I was 4 years old, tuning into the last few minutes of the pages from Ceefax on BBC Two waiting for Teletubbies to start on CBBC when I was at my nan and grandad's for a sleepover at their house; it was a great start to the morning for me after waking up from a bad dream! lol😂
I do really like tweenies… not as much as Teletubbies or Boohbah but it’s fun to watch because it’s a bit relatable especially when we get frustrated as kids.. i’m honestly surprised the show didn’t get much attention in the US despite being on noggin at the time this show is probably the most accurate for kids to follow without everyone being all “ happy go Lucky all the time shit” and instead let the characters have more emotion
I Loved The Tweenies when i was Younger my Favourite Episode is Fiz Bithday When Katy The Lady Next Door Made a Birthday Cake 🍰 For Fiz and Jake Milo and Bella Wear waching Katy Make it on The TV
@@gracekim1998 because it’s a kids show and they only show old programmes if they have something to do with someone or something like for example they have shown Michael Parkinson’s interviews to pay tribute to him
I really don't think people realise that the late 90s-mid 2000s period was really the golden age of children's TV. Tweenies, Teletubbies (my show), Bob The Builder, Balamory, and others defined an entire generation or two (and that's just the preschool and UK stuff I mentioned) If TV was still the way it was 20 years, the BBC could've made a children's block where they just aired old shows like the Tweenies (similar to what Nick Jr UK did with Noggin/Nick Jr Classics).
Thank you SO much for watching this video! The best way you can help it along is to give it a LIKE and SHARE it around all your socials! Give all your friends the nostalgia of the Tweenies!
I wish WatchMojo UK would do a playlist based on the Tweenies.
i had a Milo plush when i was young. i was the right age when Tweenies came to Austraila.
I remember the Tweenies fondly, not only as one of my most frequently watched childhood shows but because my Mum also loved them and said they were her favourite. Years later I asked her what it was about them, and she said it was the way they taught children lessons.
“Though it may look like Teletubbies on acid…”
That’s just Boohbah. 😂 I always preferred Teletubbies, even as a little kid
Wow! You’re just as good as DefunctTV talking about history of TV Shows - Good job!
Now that is an honour! Thank you!
I once saw Fizz, Jake and Doodles at a Children's TV display at my local art gallery. They are way bigger in real life than they look on the TV

The tweenies we saw in the nursery...normal tweenies
The tweenies we saw as puppets outside...stuff of nightmares 😂😂😂
That is the most wholesome 43 minutes I've spent for a while. Thank you Adam
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! Feel free to give it a share too as it really helps out! 😊
hearing the twins from the show Don't Hug Me I'm Scared reawakened my memories of the Tweenies
Dhmis x tweenies
This was such a nostaglic journey! I remember this show fondly and also an old little branded bowl I had with them on it.

There's an episode of The Tweenies where Judy visits Ireland and at one point talks to my Grandad

They could have brought it back on cbeebies today
it's pretty obvious why they didn't
@@gracekim1998 because it’s a kids show and they only show old programmes if they have something to do with someone or something like for example they have shown Michael Parkinson’s interviews to pay tribute to him
I really don't think people realise that the late 90s-mid 2000s period was really the golden age of children's TV. Tweenies, Teletubbies (my show), Bob The Builder, Balamory, and others defined an entire generation or two (and that's just the preschool and UK stuff I mentioned)
If TV was still the way it was 20 years, the BBC could've made a children's block where they just aired old shows like the Tweenies (similar to what Nick Jr UK did with Noggin/Nick Jr Classics).
There's also Brum, Numberjacks and Tommy Zoom, I think. I'd agree that was a golden age of children's TV.
i have the doodles and izzles plushies still
"He HATED Bella."
Same, dude. I always preferred Milo and Jake. Nowadays? She's okay, she definitely acts the age she's supposed to be. Lol
