Welcome back to another Gears of War Lore video! In this video I'm going to be explaining the Gears of War Berserkers! In this video I talk about the Gears of War Locust Berserker and it's variations; from the Gears of War Lambent Berserker/Lambent Zerker, Gears of War Matriarch/Gears 5 Matriarch & more!

The Lambent Zerker is the most powerful incarnation of the three. If it didn't have to vent through its chest cavity it would be nearly unstoppable.

i wont forget playing gears as a kid with my brother, when we first go to the berserker it was around 1AM and we both just looked at each other, turned off the xbox and went to bed. neither of us slept that night. but hands down one of my favorite memories.

Honestly the OG berserker scene was terrifying at first but the ultimate edition gears 1 turned up the fear factor with that lol. Literally watching her rip a gear soldier apart was awesome and scary lol
The berserker is definitely one of my favorite foes in all of gears along side corpsers and savage locust
If your still there after a year lol savage Theron is one of my all time favs
My personal favorite is Snipers or Bolters. Reason: they drop a longshot or Boltok when killed

Honestly this was probably my first "monster girl" inspiration when I first got into anime. Blind, strong. Mad as fuck. I mean these big bitches scared the fuck out of me and I loved it.

Berserkers are one of the most fun Locust enemy types to fight, regardless of what form they take; they're such a scary and awesome highlight in any Gears game they appear in. In the 1st Gears of War, they're like a survival horror enemy, in Gears 3, they're easier to kill (with their weak spot) but make up for being super aggressive, and the Matriarch in Gears 5 is a good mix of both (from what I remember of my playthrough); kicked my arse on Experienced difficulty.
That guy that gets ripped apart always terrified and stopped me from playing when I was 8

The matriarch's back actually does have protection. If not damaged the back spikes will grow back and you would need to refreeze it to break the spikes. However in horde it always has its back exposed

I really wish the Matriarch from "5" got introduced in the original series. She's the mother of the Locust Horde, after all. It would have been awesome if they had given her bigger part, maybe made her a integral part of the Locust Council, made her a general, (imagine that, an intelligent, sentient Berserker able to speak and capable of higher thought), or made her the Queen's personal confidante and bodyguard. (That'd be a great reason for why she hates Delta Squad (and Marcus) so much, they killed her best friend and mentor, so she vowed revenge and put all her time and resources into killing them)

the berserker absolutely freaked me out the first time I played Gears 1 I’ll never forget the second time you fight the berserker your walking through some type of green house and as your walking into a door way she busts through the wall and this scared the shit out of me I threw and broke my controller

Yes, but the drones are not the ones who reproduce, it is the Kantus, being the alpha male caste of the horde, who have the reproduction rights (Skorge himself says it in the Raam comics), that's how Kantus and Berserkers spawn everything the rest of the locust castes

I ALWAYS HATED Beserkers. The fact a OneShot doesn't do DIDDLY-SQUAT doesn't help EITHER. Not to mention, I almost PEED myself, when I first played Gears 3, and saw the LambentZerker survive the Hammer Of Dawn strike.
The one shot only does damage if you pre-heat the beserker with the scorcher or incendiary grenades

I played Gears of War 2 first so i was always missing that piece of the experience, but now I realize we probably don't see berserkers in 2 and 3 because the Locust couldn't afford to lose females after the lightmass bomb reduced their numbers. Plus, the torture barges weren't just cruelty for the sake of it, but an acceleration of Ukkon's method for making drones out of humans.

I still love gears, but the locust kinda lost there mystique for me when it turned out they are simply started from mutated humans.
It was always like that, they were never native creatures of Sera or environmentalist hippies and other nonsense that the fans thought and Joshua Ortega himself (writer of Gears 2) said it, from there the idea was planted that the locust are mutated humans.
So real reason berserkers aren’t in gears to is because the game developers wanted to make gears 2 more action packed oriented while gears 1 focused more on the horror aspect, as well as not wanting gears 2 to just seem like gears 1.5.
Lore wise I think most of the berserkers were probably killed in the light mass bombing. The locust, releasing that they’re the only ways to breed, probably took them deep into the hollow and to be used for breeding purposes only. That’s why it’s possible for there to be a lambent berserker in gears 3. They’re still alive, just no being used for combat anymore.
I don't think the lambent was the worst because you could shoot it in the chest but the original you need the hammer as no gun touches it
A shame the Beserkers weren't used more in the sequels - they were truly terrifying

O my god….. I remember playing this mission for the first time and damn I was scared. The scary face👹,the muscles 💪 , the screeches, the speed and strength of that thing was insane. I died so many times. The way it killed that solider was so traumatizing. Ripped him like a piece of paper. Yeah hell of an introduction.

i was 6 when i played gears one and that specific scene made me never touch gears again until i was around 10
I think it would at least be interesting the concept of a swarm berserker wich compared to the original ones this one after all the time gained a little of knowledge and could carry a weapon as well something like a female warden would be

The locust horde had plenty of terrifying creatures/soldiers in their army though the berserkers, regular/lambert/matriarch, were something even the bravest Gear soldiers would make them feel true fear. While the likes of Boomers, Grinders and Maulers were just as large they had some form of control of how they attacked Gears whilst the berserkers were essentially an unstable mass of muscle that was bulletproof and would smash anything/anyone around them.
