Great reaction! You have to know that Journey sounds the same or better live than in the studio! Keep reacting to this show in Houston from 1981, it's fantastic! Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 🇦🇷🤗
You can never go wrong with Journey.. Steve Perry is the Voice of the 80's. Neal ..amazing lead guitar.. Jonathan Cain's keyboards amazing.. and Steve on the drums....don't forget Ross on Bass guitar
One of my favorite songs from my all time favorite band!!! And Neal Schon’s guitar solo in this song is also one of my favorites. Check out their song Send Her My Love. Perry sings with so much emotion that you believe every word is coming straight from his heart. Send Her My Love makes me cry every time I hear it. My #1 favorite song by Journey. Anyway, I love your reaction to this song and Schon’s solo!!!!! Perry and Schon are absolute gold!!! BTW, the solo is also in the studio recording but it’s slightly longer in this live performance. Just incredible
Yes, the guitar solo was part of the studio version. Besides Steve's voice, Neal Schon's guitar performance is exquisite. He started to play in the famous group Santana at 15 years old !!! I can hear the guitar vibe of Carlos Santana in this solo.
So many phenomenal songs. *When You Love a Woman *Why Can't This Night go on Forever *Still They Ride *The Girl Can't Help it *Stay With Me Awhile *Wheel In The Sky *Send Her My Love *Stone in Love These are all just a beginning, the don't have a bad song, and you won't just hear Steve Perry's voice, you'll feel it, I promise!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this amazing song. You have Steve Perry, the lead singer to thank for Neal Schon's (like the name Sean) guitar solo!! Before the Escape album was released, the producers told Journey that they needed to 'SHORTEN' Neal's solo, for radio play!! Steve wasn't having any of it!! They went back and forth and argued over the solo. Steve told them that if 'the radio stations want to shorten the solo for the next song, that was fine with him. BUT WE ARE NOT GOING TO SHORTEN IT!!!' Thus, you have this amazing guitar solo!! Steve Perry is such a 'Great Showman!' No matter where you sit, he makes you feel as if you were the ONLY FAN there!! My brother was at this concert. Over the years I have been forever grateful to have seen Journey for their 1983 Frontiers tour twice, when they played for 3 sold our shows in Houston, Tx. My best friend and I were at 2 of the sold-out shows. I also got to see them for their 1986 Raised On Radio tour and Steve Perry's solo tour in 1994!! If you truly enjoyed this song, then you'll be blown away by 'Mother Father' performance, from the same concert!!
Hello!!!!!🎶♥️😁 You asked for more Journey recommendations😊-YYEEAAHH I know ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ is everywhere😅, but watching #StevePerry/#Journey perform that LIVE (Houston 1981) is absolutely magical😊, as is EVERYTHING they do😁 AND ‘Mother, Father’, LIVE Houston 1981-you will be stunned🤗🎶😊
Neal Schon is absolutely one of the most, if not THE MOST underrated guitarists in the rock genre. His skills are incredible, and he and Steve Perry played off each other like no other lead singer and lead guitarist. Their writing and their playing was perfection. They are the most potent one-two punch in rock history, in my opinion.
Neil Schon is the most melodic guitarist along with Mark Knopfler in a completely different way. The beauty of Journey is how gorgeously all the talents blended and supported each other. ❤
Best guitar solo ever!! Not a bunch of noise like some play, but a wonderful melody. Just perfect. Studio big dogs wanted the solo to fade and shorten, saying it was too long for radio play. But Steve took over and said no way could it be cut.
Good Morning Girl-Stay Awhile - didn't know who they were, but it made me cry on NYE Top 100 for the yr (back '81). Yes, Steve is a CLASS ACT, always turns his back, to the audience to give the others their time to shine
You have to react to the song “Mother, Father” by Journey. It’s the same 1981 concert in Houston, TX. Steve Perry sings every last bit of all of his talent in this one. Your ears won’t believe it
"The Girl Can't Help It" is vocally breathtaking. Yeah, they love their keys since the keyboard player writes the songs. Of course, the guitar solo was commercially shortened for radio play. THX FOR DOING THIS SONG 💫💛💫
Journey had either songs from there Concert Live in Houston 1981, Songs like "Stone in Love " Girl Can't Help it " Open Arms " Mother Father " Escape " these are really great Songs.
I saw Journey on this very concert tour in October 1981 in Charlotte with my then-girlfriend. I was 16 at the time. The 70's/80's was an incredible time period to be young. The music was great. Love was great. Relationships with people were closer. People were happier. I'm so blessed I got to live it and have these wonderful memories. Great reaction.
Yes, to answer your question, the studio version solo is pretty much the same, minus the very rapid parts, so you SHOULD try to learn it. Every guitarist needs to learn Neil's solos ... they're just that good. You can learn a LOT from them. Mind you, especially on some of the pre-Steve Perry stuff (yes, there was life BEFORE Steve Perry ... and a damn good one ... Look for the Look To The Future album ... stunning), Neil is blisteringly fast as the group was mostly a fusion band, and instead of Steve Perry, they had Gregg Rolie (the keyboardist) as lead singer. Neil and Gregg came from Santana, and Gregg was also the lead singer there and is the sound you might be used to if you ever heard them. I LOVED the Look To The Future album.
No. They’re in love&together, but fight all the time “ Fighting is worth the love they say”. “ Now you can’t say your love will never die” They’re never in the same place. One loving. The other not. Vicious circle. Best guitar solo ever((actually a duet) live version of Hotel California. Have you done any from Heart? (Wilson sisters) She’s got pipes also!!
Great reaction. Journey is amazing and you should check out Open Arms live at same concert and video for Separate Ways. Also check out the band Kansas and Carry on Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind
🎉🎉🎉 Thank God I was 20years old back then 😊 Real lyrics, real musicians, and the real amazing voice of Steve Perry. It's hard to listen to new music nowadays. I prefer to listen to the old ones and rediscovering them.🎉🎉🎉 Nice job, young man! Keep digging the treasures of the past and you'll amplify your musical knowledge.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 Hugs from Brasil
I'm sure theres some Journey fans, maybe even most of them that think this Live version is better than the studio. I THINK SO, Its a TAD faster, and Steve is putting way more power and fluctuation in his voice. If I did a karaoke of this song? Its this version, I'm in LOVE with this version. EVERYTHING HE DOES I want to replicate. This song, makes me want to ACTUALLY get a voice coach just so I'd have the confidence to even SING this song at Karaoke. Thats how much I love it.
Should you desire to hear Steve Perry’s range and vocal control, react to “Wheel in the Sky” when Steve Perry wails with the guitarist, Neal Shon, is doing his guitar solo. Gotta watch it live though or you’ll miss it! This is a “can’t miss” band! The’70’s and ‘80’s were awesome years for phenomenal music. Auto tone wasn’t used, either they were talented or they weren’t! These guys were amazing when Steve Perry was with them. Perry stepped away and has multiple solo albums, all platinum or diamond winners. That’s as high as it gets! The only two original band members were Steve Perry and Neal Shon. Neal Shon was with Carlos Santa years prior to this so Shon was schooled by one of the greatest guitarist ever. The pianist is a very well, professionally trained pianist and, although I’m not fond of him personally, I, as a classically trained pianist and composer, respect his capabilities! I also play a good bit of Journey’s music for the piano. You’d love most of their music and they’re as good live, if not better, than the tunes recorded!
Don't feel badly about missing out. I am old enough to have enjoyed the 80s but didnt discover the amazingness of Steve Perry until a few years ago. He is truly the GOAT. Steve is a counter tenor, buut what is amazing is that his tone is the same from the bottom of his range to the very top. That is incredibly rare and what sets him apart. Plus his vibrato and phrasing are incredible. He wrote this song driving inhis car between LA and San Francisco.
Steve Perry and Neal Schon were awesome together! Mother Father from the same concert is amazing! Lights/ Stay Awhile 1980 Live Osaka Is another great performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Wheel in the Sky, Why Can't this Night Go On Forever, Walks Like a Lady, Lovin Touchin Squeezin, the list goes on and on. Journeys music is most uplifting!! Neal Schon has some great solo projects Beyond the Thunder.
Neal was making that thing talk. And, yes......most of that guitar solo is on the studio track. Neal added about 8 measures in the middle, but that's it.
Check out Journey on Midnight Special April 1978. Steve Perry finished with Journey with "When You Love a Woman." What you see these days with Journey is a cover band. We were lucky to have super musicians and singers back in the days before autotune and pitch correction plus all the other stuff these days. It's not that there are no good performers but they are lost in the nature of the industry now. Perry was a tenor altino with ridiculous range and breath control. Neal Schon, an extraordinary guitarist, started with Santana at 15. Steve "Machine gun " Smith is a top fusion drummer. Jonathan Cain keyboard etc and Ross Valory bass, were all remarkable talents. I've seen people analyze Perry's range and pitch and they just say it's not worth the bother because it actually dulls the voice.
My boyfriend took me to see journey I didn't know who they were I was 15 I'm a stickler for hitting the notes correctly and all that is so important to my ears I was terrified when the band started Steve Perry started singing I was transfixed
The years of "free love" left broken hearts. Conquest and submission. Loving the lust, hoping for love. Not wanting to give the heart away to fast. Fear of heart break. That's what I got.
All of Journey’s music is good and so is Steve Perry’s solo music. You will never ever again see another voice like Steve Perry again. The only person in modern music that I can say can somewhat hold that same title is Taylor Swift. Tay Tay is the next best thing of today!
Unfortunately the live version is nothing like the studio version. Also check out the video “Girl Can’t help it” it features one of the original American Idol judges Randy Jackson playing the base guitar. He was a member of Journey in the 80’s
The solo is awesome and I thank Steve Perry so much for not letting them cut it. But for me Steve Perry is always the best in the band for me. The Voice does it for me.
If you haven't checked out Journey Mother Father live in Houston the vocal acrobatics are incredible. The lead guitarist Neal Schon started playing with Santana at 16 Journey is one of the few bands that sounds better live
Journey, I gotta song the love l.I.VE version in Texas.I'll be all right.I'll be all right without without you.Alright question mark what's the song?I'll be all right.Be all right without YO.U
Mother Father live in Houston 1981. You won't be disappointed. 🎶
agree!!!
You HAVE to do "Still They Ride Live from Tokyo 83!!!! I mean.....WOW!!! 🔥
Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin, Lights, and Wheel in the Sky!!!! Steve Perry's soul is in all of his songs. One of the best of all time!
Sweet and simple is one sleeper song , Mother father is another must hear!
If you want to rock Separate Ways. If you want smooth Lights. Go into their 70s catalogue. Amazing vocals
Yes, the guitar solo was part of the studio version. Besides Steve's voice, Neal Schon's guitar performance is exquisite. He started to play in the famous group Santana at 15 years old !!! I can hear the guitar vibe of Carlos Santana in this solo.
Yeah the solo at the end is on the studio version as well.
So many phenomenal songs.
*When You Love a Woman
*Why Can't This Night go on Forever
*Still They Ride
*The Girl Can't Help it
*Stay With Me Awhile
*Wheel In The Sky
*Send Her My Love
*Stone in Love
These are all just a beginning, the don't have a bad song, and you won't just hear Steve Perry's voice, you'll feel it, I promise!

I also got to see them for their 1986 Raised On Radio tour and Steve Perry's solo tour in 1994!!
If you truly enjoyed this song, then you'll be blown away by 'Mother Father' performance, from the same concert!!
Steve perry the Best male voice ever no one cant touch Steve perry voice

Journey is a one of a kind band. I saw them live 1981 in Pittsburgh PA. Loved every minute of it!!
Mother,Father live form same concert is a must.🔥❤️
Neal plays that guitar the way Steve sings..outstanding!!
I would argue that Alex Lifeson and Eric Johnson are in that category as well
Steve Perry is 'THE VOICE'! Every song by Journey is a beautiful journey! Enough said.
I'm really thankful and impressed with the reaction and the descriptive commentary of the guitar solo.
Steve Perry is the GOAT. To see them in concert was amazing.
I am JEALOUS
@@Sohum- He is literally known as “The Voice.”
I never thought Neal Schon, the guitarist, ever got the recognition he deserved!! So many great ones, but so was he!!
Check out Open Arms, and every other song in this concert. It is absolutely amazing!!
“ Don’t Stop Believin” is the most downloaded song of all time…
Best Singer Ever!!!!!❤
I'm happy you are hearing great music now... Every song, every album...
Good Morning Girl-Stay Awhile - didn't know who they were, but it made me cry on NYE Top 100 for the yr (back '81). Yes, Steve is a CLASS ACT, always turns his back, to the audience to give the others their time to shine
There are certain songs that should NEVER be duplicated...This is one of them.❤
Who’s Cryin Now is the same live in concert as the record
You have to react to the song “Mother, Father” by Journey. It’s the same 1981 concert in Houston, TX.
Steve Perry sings every last bit of all of his talent in this one. Your ears won’t believe it
"The Girl Can't Help It" is vocally breathtaking.

The Voice. Only Steve Perry can sing this good live. And shout out to Neal. My favorite guitar solo of all time.
Love this group, one of my favorites growing up!…..one of the others you MUST listen to is The Bee Gees…the vocal range of them is off the charts!
I don't know Stephen, but Stephen knows what's up. Good call. Greatest band ever!

Listen to Sam Cooke and hear Steve's inspiration for his amazing vocal skills
Wheel in the Sky live from Tokio with Steve Perry as vocalist is great since you have reacted to some of the best already.
They were very particular about the songs they wrote and the words.
Steve is a countertenor. ❤

Might I respectfully say, that you look a little bit like Steve Perry… Put on the long locks, and it could be a dead ringer…
Hahah that’s the first time I’ve gotten that. I’ve got pictures of me with my hair grown out on my instagram if you wanna compare 😅
Grow it back 😍
You have gorgeous hair. Make us happy and grow it back! 😊
Thank you! Glee is TERRIBLE. They tear the soul out of a song before they do it.
