Thank you so much Kelli, I appreciate the motivation and follow! Im starting off with the basics and plan to make the videos until its finished! Thanks again!
I thought the rare 10°F nights here in Utah where bad, -40?? I can’t even fathom that! Your garden looks fantastic bro, I really enjoyed this video! I’m glad people are xeriscaping elsewhere outside of the southwestern U.S.
Yeah it gets bitter cold! It is always nice when we have a blanket of snow though, that helps protect them! We have been in droughts the last few summers here in MN, so the tide is definitely turning, hope to see more northern gardeners xeriscape! Thanks for the comment 🙏
Great video, looking forward to next one. I’ve started a smaller rock garden with slightly different alpines, never quite sure what I’m doing, lots of trial and error, always learning. I joined mn rock garden society and look forward to learning more and attending their sales.
Thank you! Awesome, alpines are so fun, some can be finicky and some are impossible to kill! A lot of trial and error with rock gardens, that is part of the fun I think! Good luck with the new rockery!
Love your style my friend. I can’t believe cacti species survive here in MN! I am starting a small kidney bean landscape project in my front yard and am looking for the natural aesthetic with varieties of rock and low plants between gaps for visual interest. Your garden is absolutely inspiring.
Thank you so much! It amazes me too that some cacti can survive here! I plan to make a small backyard nursery for really hardy cacti and drought tolerant perennials, feel free to check out the facebook page “Northern Cactus Co.” (there are two pages, in the one with cacti not the boutique). Awesome, kidney bean shape is a great start and can give a lot of visual points of interest! Im glad you are going with a natural aesthetic, it can be very pleasing to the eye and is much more friendly to local fauna!
Yes I do, its about a 25ft stream into a small 50 gallon pond! A pond recirculates the water from pond to stream! Eventually I plan to do a video on building a water feature as well!
Hi Will, this hardscape took me about a month working almost everyday for a couple hours after work! It was a big endeavor and I only used a hand dolly. If i had some machinery I think it could be done a lot faster, but I enjoyed the process and sweat equity!
It's great to finally see a rock garden video that shows love for both rock design and plant design.
Thank you so much!
Yes; a lovely rockery is a definite improvement from anthills + dirt.
Your rockery side of the front garden is lovely.
Thank you so much Holly! It sure beats watering crabgrass!
Wow! Great garden! Thanks for sharing it and all your knowledge. Look forward to the next installments.
Thank you so much Pat!
Really great video Johnny! Amazing to see it all in more detail! Can't wait for part 2!
@ryanharter711 much appreciated my friend! Cant wait to improve and continue with episode 2 and beyond!
Your garden is gorgeous. Thank you for the instructions.
Thank you so much, my pleasure!
I’m so excited you made a video! Thank you
Thank you so much for the support and the comment and subscribing, I appreciate you! Hope you enjoy it!
Spectacular. I’m going to be following your advice and studying the hardscape the next time I visit Duluth for some hiking!
Awesome! Do it up! One of my favorite rockery plants is there (not in my rockery yet). Campanula rotundifolia!
Yay! Thanks! I've been patiently waiting for this video. Hope you keep making them 🙂

That it is the nicest, most realistic looking rockery. Love the look. I only wish my lot had some slope to it to create one of these.
Thank you so much! You can dug and create mounds and create the landscape! You will love your creation after some sweat and tears! 😉

I didn’t know you had a water feature! You use a pump I assume? Can’t wait for more!!

You did an awesome job
Thank you so much! I appreciate the compliment!
Lots of great ideas! What are seedums?
Thank you! Sedums are a type of succulent plant with many many varieties, some of which are very cold hardy. They are drought tolerant and colorful!
Dam -40? I’m never visiting lol
If you do, bring a jacket, hat and gloves 😂
might be able to seal the wood hand rail with beeswax
How long did this take to build? This is an incredible project, the rock work alone would've taken me 3 summers to do.
