For me personally, I like the narrator to have a certain tone, timbre etc, like Starkey for example….you sir have a great voice for this and is one of the reasons I’m subscribed to you - not just the subjects you cover and your vast knowledge. Top stuff and would not be out of place on commercial tv 👌💪
@@historyprofiles a pleasure and may I add, well deserved imho. I will definitely look forward to you telling of Magnus the good, and I agree, underrated! Wishing you further success in the future. Best wishes
Knowing how scary battle already must’ve been it had to feel great knowing the person ordering you into battle was also taking part in battle. That’s why being a leader today could never compare to being a leader in past history. Not only did past leaders have to deal with the politics of there countries you would often hear about how they won a great battle
Bro if you only knew how many of my UA-cam videos I make while listening to your videos😂😂😂 keep them coming I'm almost through your last Harold hardrada videi!!
I really believe it’s time someone made a big budget blockbuster movie about pre Norman England. There’s such a wealth of material there that it would be difficult to narrow down the characters and plot lines.
My favourite time in English History by far! Wessex unifying england, the kings that followed, Viking England, and finally Edward the confessors england, and of course Harold Godwinson, what a glorious end indeed. I beleive they are releasing a show called King and conquer, which will show Godwinson as King and the struggle between him and William

@@danielsantiagourtado3430 fun fact! Edward is an Anglo-Saxon name! Only used to name Norman kings due to their respect for the st Edward the confessor! Thought I’d throw that in there haha! I will be covering Edward longshanks soon too!
I find it interesting that Cnut spelled Harold's name with an O instead of Harald like all his other ancestors, maybe he thought his son would be more easily accepted with the Saxon spelling. Perhaps the shrewdness of Aeflgifu?
Makes a lot of sense for his mother to name him the Anglo-Saxon Harold, she was a key component at the witain for arguing for his ascension to the throne
A few people that crossed Emma seemed to have come to a sad end. As I recall, those mercenaries that were escorting Alfred were from Boulogne according to one source I have read. Godwin could have made more enemies than he knew by executing them. Just a thought rwmccoy
Yeah Godwin was a true opportunist, only loyal to himself and Cnut, after Cnut's death he saw his opportunity to bend the politics of England to his will, Harefoot however was too powerful and had too much supprt from the anglo-danish nobility. Thus Godwin was forced to serve him. But yes Godwin had many enemies alas he managed to stay alive until his natural cuase of death at a feast!
@@mithunkartha Emma’s defamation of haralds mother survives to this day! That was Emma of Normadies rumours to discredit him and his mother. Cnut being a savvy political and military figure, definately could not have been outsmarted by his first wife by bringing up a son that wasn’t his. He would have had him killed if that was the case most likely
I also liked his protrayel in Valahlla. One of the few accurate things they did on the show, apart from him killing Sweyn, As sweyn died before he was born. I did like how they eneded it with him taking England though.

Yes, leaders back then had to fight alongside their men, why die for a man who wouldn't die for you. A philosophy lost to the rulers of today
If nothing else royal families are entertaining. Thanks once again, Ollie!
Thank you for watching!!!
The story well told, illustrated beautifully. Well done. Thank you.
