I love the Andy Summers sound. Was chasing it for a while. There is a EH Electric Mistress reissue signature Andy Summers pedal called the Walking on the Moon pedal. It’s so spot on, and has the legend’s signature on it for extra fun. One of my favorite pedals.
Great set up! That Electric Mistress is a bit of a revelation for me . . . I always avoided flangers, they just seemed a bit OTT but this one has a subtlety to it that really is more of a chorus! Back then I read somewhere he was using a Roland Dimension D rack-mount and I was doing a bit of demoing for Roland so grabbed one from them (still have it) and I think it's plausible - maybe in the studio? FWIW I tried the Boss Dimension C for pedal set-up but ended up with the MXR Analog Chorus - dead simple but beautiful understated vibe. Thanks for the vid - really informative.
What a great gig to play. The sounds you are recreating are fantastic. Fortress Around Your Heart was from Dream of the Blue Turtles, the first album after The Police, and Sting played guitar as he had Darryl Jones on bass.
Thanks for sharing Rob! I am sure the gig will be great fun. I saw Sting live a few days ago and the harmony of Police's music is so interesting. The sound of Andy Summers can't be compared to many other guitarists. Pretty original and unique, although the elements of it are not so "special". Have fun!
Hi Rob, I recall Andy using a JC120 at one stage. He also had an envelope - high pass, low pass- filter. Still you nailed the sound with what you have, so no need to stick a JC120 in your hand luggage :) Cheers from an unusually sunny Cambridgeshire.
I've spent years playing in a Police cover band, (and countless hours) dissecting Andy Summers tones. If you wanted to "go even smaller" you could get a Mooer E-Lady Flanger . . . (no volume drop). I love the Police & Andy Summers = huge influence & inspiration for me. Nice tones & playing. oNe LovE from NYC
When you absolutely gotta kill every m********r in the room, accept no alternative, the EHX Electric Mistress. If... you need cheap and especially touring compact, specifically for the Electric Mistress, try the Boss HF2, or the Boss BF3 (but not the Boss BF2). I use the Boss BF3 mostly now because of its compact versatility. Another tip for Andy Summers, is run the Electric Mistress into a Chorus.... originally the EM went into a Roland JC120. Works bang on for Walking On The Moon.
Another great video Rob, thanks! Just one question: when you take this pedalboard through airport security, do they a) comment on how close to Andy Summers’ sound the board is or b) ask you to lie down with your hands behind your back? 😂
Beautiful, I'm also a fan of Andy Summers

Massive thanks for this. Summers is one of my favourite players and you have completely nailed the sounds. Subscribed! 👍🏻

Sounds great! Love the De Do Do, ace! Mistress is a fantastic thing too
It’s a classic song with nonsense chorus lyrics :). I do love it too
Awesome video from an amazing guitarist 😁
Thank you kindly!
Nailed it!👍🎶👏
Sounds are awesome Rob ❤
Thank you Andrew
Sounds absolutely mega!!!
It’s a super cool pedal

He was and is a hugely influential guitar player. Those voicings have inspired so many since.

Hey Andrew. Thanks for the info. Yeah , the JC120 might do me a bit of back damage

Thanks for the tip Micheal.
Sounds good
Thanks David
Great tones Rob!
Question for you: why not recreate this in the Quad Cortex?

👍👌
Enjoy
Are you using the correct chord on Walking?

Hah. Very good question. I’m hoping the former
Did you try to get the sound from the quad cortex?
Hey Jon. Hope you’re well mate. I didn’t as I know I’ll be using a back line amp on the gig.
Hey Rob, where/when are you playing here in Finland? 🙏
I’m there on the 31st July playing Cafe Carusel also playing on the 1st but not sure where
@@RobHarrisGuitar just my luck. Going away 29.7--> for the Alps🙈 Hope you have a great time here
Brilliant! Why didn’t you use the Quad Cortex to recreate the sounds?
Hi Will. I would usually have programmed the quad cortex up, but I know that I’m going to be using backline amps on theshows
So many gorgeous tones from a small number of pedals. Love it.
Brilliant
Thanks dude
