Traveled from PV to Guadalajara on ETN thanks to this video. Sat on the top front seats of the double decker which provided excellent views of the six hour trip. We were given a sandwich and a bottle of water. Bus and bathrooms wee clean. Loved it!

Thanks for walking us through sample bus travel in Mexico. For perspective, bus travel is very common in Europe as well. I once took a bus from Zurich, Switzerland to Milan, Italy (8 hrs). I’ve also taken a bus from CDMX to Puebla. Again, super comfortable and safe. European bus travel is same as MX...affordable, very comfy, charter type of bus. It’s only the US that, for whatever reason!(influence of car industry??!) doesn’t take advantage of bus travel in a big way like many countries do.

One of the most invaluable added features of the first class bus companies is that they pay their drivers more, formally train them, require them to take periodic actualization courses, and schedule them in a way to minimize somnolence. As statistically safe as it is to travel by bus in Mexico, like everywhere else, it is still very much an operator dependent endeavor. So yes, I know you guys are on a budget but do always travel top if the line, to maximize your safety. Cheers!

Great camera work. Too many UA-camrs pan so fast it, lterally, makes me dizzy. Keeping your destination secret is also another great move...Adds some fun suspense.
Try this on for size. I was on a bus trip from my home in Sonora to Washington state to visit my kids and grandkids maybe 7 years ago. On the US leg, I sat next to a guy who was 6'6", who -- literally -- lived on the bus. He bought a month pass that let him travel anywhere for around $325. He had a set route where he could go to shelters to bathe or get food or whatever.
I'm 5'9" and my knees where not happy campers. I can't imagine how his felt. He should have moved to Mexico.

    Saludos

Bus service in Mexico is actually pretty nice, if you miss your bus, or are stranded, bus stations are usually open 24/7 with stores, bathrooms and probably a place to charge your phone, and a waiting area to rest. Buses in America are older i guess because not many people like to travel that way, and in Europe the buses are usually nice, but sometimes the terminals, or stations are not the best and dont have a lot of info availabe (i had to wait for some buses in parking lots and not so comfy places,
If you want to travel in México, going by Bus, is super cheap and convenient.

"First Class" Mexican bus service is what American would consider a step above a basic
    Greyhound ticket.
I bought one of these tickets by accident for a trip from Merida to Cancun.
The seats are tiny and the aisle is small.
At a minimum, you want to buy a GL (Gran Lujo) "Luxury" ticket.
An upgrade is to Platino (Platinum), which gets you access to a special waiting area, if available,
    presumably with private bathrooms.
This may not sound like much, but considering the "public" bathrooms require you to check your bags at a cost, just to go through the turnstile, then pay to enter, and then tip for the privilege of using the toilet, is something to consider for the small difference in the price of the upgraded ticket.

many buses are Scania, Volvo and MAN brands and are built and assembled right here in Mexico in Leon Guanajuato.
    Mercedes Benz are imported.
there are also some called DINA that's a Mexican brand.

Travel by 🚌 in Mexico, I would suggest a blanket and a small pillow. Because it will get cold. Just a heads up on anyone travling by 🚌.

Because there's no market, people either have a car and drive or fly

I can verify, Mexican buses are the TRUTH fam! Unbelievable first class comfort and quality and it's not even expensive. Here in the USA we have ratty Greyhound. They wish they could be like ETN buses.

I always pay the extra 50-100 pesos when I travel in Mexico by bus. It’s well worth it, usually not a lot of people. It’s great.
