Da due soli strumenti Mozart trae la perfezione musicale assoluta, elevandosi ancora una volta di più sopra qualsiasi altro compositore. Grazie infinite ai fratelli Oistrak e a te che hai postato una simile meraviglia.
Igor plays neatly on his violin; David plays so warmly and joyously on his viola. It is touching but oooh the difference between both instrumentalists.....
The great master David Oistrakh here playing viola, partnering his son Igor, also one of the greatest violinists of the 20th Century. The Duo in G by Mozart is a masterpiece of the highest order. No one but Mozart can infuse so much depth and completeness in a work for only two instruments, violin and viola. One of the rare times when when the music and the performance are joined in the most sublime way.
No one but Mozart ? Maybe. But you should know that Mozart wrote the two duets for Violin an Viola in the Johann Michael Haydn's style in Salzboug (1783) because Haydn was sick and unable to complete an order from his master the Archiepiscopo Colloredo. Mozart generously offered Haydn to help him and wrote the two missing duets (6 were ordered and Haydn had only delivered 4 so far). Mozart wrote the two duets (K423 & K424) counterfeiting perfectly the JM Haydn's manner. He succeeded to the point that Colloredo didn't saw the trick. In a way Mozart reached his best trying to imitate Johann Michael Haydn. The elder Haydn brother (Franz Joseph) was a deep inspiration for Mozart, but Mozart was even closer to Johann Michael who was a real friend. Mozart admired the music of both brothers and considered them great musicians. This anecdote underlines the immense facility of Mozart, but also stresses that he was more than often unhinged and that his most remarkable pieces where done when he had special constraint (like “in the Michael Haydn's style”). I personally consider these two duets as the best chamber music written by Mozart... with the help Johann Michael Haydn.
It,s VERY DIFFICULT to find GOOD Violists REALLY but Guess What I DID find >>>>David Oistrach (viola) with son on the violin .And this is simply a PLEASURE to listen BEAUTYFUL sound from both players .........and EXCELLENT Interpretation ......... It,s GREAT performance !.
After listening to several recordings of this piece I am now convinced that this is by far the best one.
My friend is 91 and I only 8 years younger and hope to find tempi like father and son, such a top recording from Decca.
