I worked for a company that brought many of our employees over to Saudi Arabi and they were kicked out of the country for having alcohol in their hotel rooms. Their jobs were terminated upon arrival when they got back to the USA. The company was right was to fire them. We can disagree whether Saudi Arabia is right about their laws, but really, these employees broke the law. You step this situation up to the someone with renown like an athelete with Olympic credentials, a corrupt government like Russia isn't just going to deport you. Griner got detained to letter of the law. It happened and nobody ever argued that the evidence wasn't credible, not even Griner. I don't comment very much but I think one of the biggest points that no one has commented on is no athlete can test positive for marijuana do we know if Britney Grinder is clean to pass the tests the Olympic committee will do? She kinda became world news because of her drug charges so I would imagine she's going to be heavily tested. I do agree with putting Caitlin Clark on the team because of her college career and stats so far. Looking at her actual stats as a guard against other guards because that's really the only way to compare a players position in the entire WNBA INCLUDING the players on team USA are the following
Clark is 9th in points scored as a guard
Clark is 1st in blocks as a guard
Clark is 3rd in assists as a guard
Clark is 2nd in scoring per shot efficiency
Clark is 7th in steals
Clark is 4th in free throw avg

League leadership and the players union are terrified that this kids performance has a possibility of unmasking their poor management of the league. What if the ratings tanked, after signing this huge new media deal, due to some unpredictable action, good or bad, taken by Caitlin?
Not only are some of Diana Taurasi’s records at stake, in the long run, what happens if a Rookie beats the 53-points WNBA scoring record? The WNBA and Players Union don’t want any of these things to even be remotely on the table
WNBA management and the Players Union does not want another “Michael Jordan” telling coaches, GMs and owners, who she wants on the team and what plays to run. Nor do they want a “Wilt Chamberlain” rookie year, who at the time, broke eight NBA records in his first season.
This paradoxical behavior and language is, in my opinion, the “players union” trying to “put Caitlin in her place” behind the scenes. A lot of the WNBAs top players have mothers, who were NCAA stars before the creation of the WNBA and have jobs in that community. They are protecting their legacies at the expense of the league’s popularity and revenue growth. At the end of her 4 year contract Caitlin should go overseas or quit basketball. All this emotional abuse isn’t worth it.
Why do we keep hearing, the “know your history” statement, which is not a “customer service” focused statement?
I feel like there is a MAJOR consumer choice issue going on here. The WNBA is seemingly telling its customers that they will not, under any circumstances, let fans dictate who is popular and who’s name sells the most product.
She’s so good, even with bullying, both on and off the court, they have to start rigging the outcome. The analytics group has figured out how to make her look bad, and on orders from the top, the coach and GM will sideline her when commanded to do so.
When her WNBA contact is up, she can go to FIBA, get fast tracked for naturalization in whatever county she qualifies, and then play in the Olympics for that country. Young Boomers and Old Gen Xers are trying to “pick winners”, in defiance of the evidence, and trying to tell the market what they are allowed buy.
I stand by my previous statement, the “players union” is trying to “put Caitlin in her place” and are pressuring traditional media outlets, refs, players and GMs to bully her because they have already made “informal promises” to others and she is getting in the way.
