    Maria, trai migliori soprani degli ultimi 50 anni. Silvano idem ,il vero baritono dopo l ' abbandono di Giangiacomo. E Gianfranco idem con Mario ( del Monaco) . Vere autentiche voci. Come solo il Veneto ha sfornato per numero e qualità.

    As a young staff producer I was involved in this production in 1981. Cècchele was not well received at the time. I must admit when listening now I find he sounds pretty good. I think the problem was his voice was too small in the theater. The voice records well and that is probably why he sounds better than he did live. Chiara was terribly underrated - she is nothing short of magnificent here. The young Delores Ziegler making her European debut was still unknown in 1981. (She went on to make a huge career (and as far as I know never sang Emilia or other comprimario roles after this). Other casts in this production included Carlo Cossutta as Otello, Margaret Price/Pilar Lorengar as Desdemona, and Cappuccilli as Iago. Krenz's contract as Musical Director of the Bonn Opera was terminated at the end of this season (1981/82) and he didn't really much opera conducting after that. He was a pretty despotic bad tempered person - but I find the performance here in retrospect nevertheless quite exciting.

    Qulcuno sa spiegare perché Maria Chiara è stata poco presente nei teatri esteri?
