Hi! I just to stop the video to comment. I am an INFJ personality....rare....I pick up everything just by taking in all the different senses that I am experiencing! In watching all the cross stitch videos I am also analyzing everything in that video...the person, the background, what they think is beautiful, their voices, their nails, their tone of voice, along with how they speak and what they say! There is a ton of psychology going into everything concerning cross stitch! So this leads me to you!! You are a very good teacher, your voice is perfect, how you think before you speak....it is nicely thought out! I can tell by the way you work that your are very particular JUST LIKE ME! Your mind works like mine too! Cross stitch is saving my life mentally! It helps with my shaking and anxiety! I take my work seriously and I want a clean back! Anyway, I just had to compliment you! I really appreciated your showing the difference between waxing and not waxing. I have been contemplating trying wax and I think, with the help of your video, I have finally decided only to wax my ends where I am threading and my thread has begun to fray from multiple treading/unthreadings. I just want to say thank you for this video. I am stitching my first HAED and this stitching technique has helped so much. As I am only on the first page of my piece and only working with two colors of thread, the thought of wrapping my head around parking was daunting. Your way of stitching is so easy and workable. I LOVE the way you do the "diagonal" stitching method. I, like you, seem to like the horizontal stitching the best. I haven't noticed significant lines from stitching in a column, but I have not gotten much done on my first HAED yet, so they could become noticeable as time goes on. But using your technique will be awesome. And I do like the fact that you've minimized the number of threads that are being parked. Now, my only problem is that my current HAED design is in a box in storage. Guess I'll just have to find another chart and start a new one!!!! Thank you so much, Karen.

Hi Karen, Thanks for that I do diagonal stitching only when I have a lot of black background, otherwise doesn't work for me but as you say whatever makes you happy!! But I love the needle threading you did and I tried it and I was amazed it worked ! I also tried parking, did not like the threads everywhere....so I have all my needles pre threaded and that works for me. But I love watching what other stitchers do, you always learn so much. So great first video !

Hello Karen. You are an absolute joy to watch and listen to. I finally understand that technique. Can you please help me with a few questions? Do you start with new threads at the top of every diagonal? When you reach the bottom of each page, do you end the thread or park it on to the following page below? How do you continue the diagonal on page 2? How does the diagonal continue? I love the method of 1 row of 10 stitches because I have missed stitches, and the back would get bulky. Thank you for sharing this technique.❤
Hi Jenn. Awesome that my video has helped you. And certainly I can answer your questions..yes i start new at the top of the diagonal. When reaching the bottom of the page I find it easiest to park your threads in the overlap area and then they are ready for when you do the next row of pages. When the top of your diagonal goes onto the second page unless you are going to just go page by page you will be going across 2 pages. So if you use Pattern Keeper it is not an issue cause the pages are together into one big chart. If however you are working from a paper pattern it will be best to tape your pages together. That makes the transition between pages easier. Your other option is when the top of your diagonal reaches the edge if the page just work the diagonal going down the side of the page until you have the page completed. On thing with doing this is you run the risk of page lines. Hope this answers your questions and helps. If not just let me know
@The Needlebugg I finally get it. I'm so grateful for taking the time to explain this method. You're an angel and an absolute joy to watch. So genuine and down to earth. ❤ One more question: if I can. I'm stitching 1 over 1 on 28 count, with one strand. I have adopted the loop start, and it works well, but I have great difficulty trying to tack the end thread. Is it possible if you could do a video on how to tack the thread on 28 count? I find there not enough thread within the fabric to split at times. It's the only issue I have at this point. Bless🙏

Thank you for this. I use a simliar technique and find like you that working top down works best. The only difference in m method is choosing the colour to work first in a 10 stich 'row'. I look to see which colour is on the right hand side of the row. I stitch that as a half cross stitch, leaving gaps as needed, then wotk the next on the right, till all the colours are done in one direction. I then look at the left hand side of the row and work that colour back, then the next to left . i find this works well. i park as you do.

Thanks so much.Jan hicks sent me for you pattern keeper video, however i have 4 of 20 pages of my haed done and find the stitches are terrible in that they aren’t consistent good x’es and the back is a mess. I was stitching x country 20 rows and parking and the back is thick and messy. So yes have entire top finished but technically it’s 1/5 done and not happy. So, trying to figure a way to keep back semi neat as you say and not get lines..

Meryl that is part of the reason I gave up using the Pako. I did not like how the threads tangled.short of covering them up all,the time or having some sort of bag to keep them in I don’t know how you would keep them clean and dust free. Hope you find a solution that works for you
Meryl right now I am using floss pages by Flossanthology on Etsy. Each page has 14 channels that you thread the floss into. So it keeps threads separated like the Pako. Easy just to pull 1 strand. And your floss stays clean and tangle free.i did a video on them just a short while ago. I really like them. Just search Flossanthology on etsy
I love using my tablet for my haed. I did change my page view to show pages it horizontally instead of vertical. That way they show it similar to a book and when I zoom in i can actually be on two pages at once which has made my mistakes at the page jumps much less 😁
Hi Karen - I really enjoyed this video! I am not familiar with diagonal stitching, other than watching one other video yesterday which mentioned your name (as well as BlitStitch) so this technique is quite new to me. I’ve never stitched a true “full coverage” piece before, mostly because of my fear of the parking method with the kajillion threads hanging all over the place. Years ago I began a HAED design and gave up rather quickly, also because of the parking method and becoming easily confused and stressed over the threads. THIS method of diagonal stitching really looks easy to pick up, so I’m excited to try it sometime in the near future. Your stitches look so neat and tidy! I had two questions for you. First, do you start and end your threads in the traditional manner of securing them under some of the previous stitches? I suppose if you are using two strands, you can begin your threads with the “loop method,” but when ending that color do you just secure it under several stitches that were already placed? Or do you just let the loose thread dangle on the back and figure it will be covered eventually by future stitches? I also wanted to ask what program you use to upload your chart on your iPad or tablet? I’ve seen videos where people highlight their stitches as they go on their tablet, and it seems like it’s so much easier to manage than having all the paper charts and colored pencils/highlighters, etc.. Thanks again for posting the video. I love your philosophy regarding this being a hobby and “fun” and stress-free. I will need to remember your three foot rule next time I make an error! Kevin
Hey Karen, I dont know if you have since deicovered this as its an older video but there is a program called pattern keeper for android devices. It is a fantastic program but unlike most of them it merges the pages and just puts a thicker line between them so you could theoretically stitch over pages if you want in the future.
Charlene Bron thank you. I have known aboutPattern Keeper since it was released. It surely is a fantastic app. Use it all the time. It is truly the best isn’t it!
@@NeedleBugg its amazing, the patterns I'm doing at the moment werent compatible with it in the beginning but the update a few months back made them work. I stitch so much faster now
I started cross stitching very late in life 69 , I am now 71 I love it and I wish I could have found this hobby early in my life as I won't have much stitching time left especially when tackling an haed ... I am going to start purple iris mini after Christmas and this is the question , lots of black so 1over 1 on 20 count adia isn't working for me so I tried 2over 1 and the coverage was good but I know I will struggle as the next row becomes more dense ... have ordered 22 count but then this makes the design large and I will still have to do 2 over 1 and I really wanted to do 1 over 1 if I go smaller count it will make the design too small ... my ideal would be to have a much thicker thread I have anchor as people say it is slightly thicker and that hasn't covered it doing the 1over 1 . I was wondering if it would be ok in a perl cotton 8 or 12 just for the black but then would it look ok with the rest of the floss ? I hope you understand my ramblings :) Diana
Hi. Thanks so much for a great flosstube. Really clear. Two questions. Looks like you are using a roll bar frame for stretching? What size do you use if you have 72 pages? How do you manage if your fabric is large? What do you use for stretching? I suspect you can’t fold a large fabric...
I am using qsnap so i just roll my excess fabric and use strips of fabric with a magnet on each end. That holds the rolled fabric. I place one end on the top of my work and the other end on the underside. Encasing the rolled fabric. My size of fabric is determined by the stitch count of the design and the count fabric o want to use. I hope this helps

My best advice is to do what works best for you. It is ok to stray from the strict diagonal. Especially if there are just a few stitches of the same color close by. Everyone does it a bit differently. Experiment. You will find whst works the best for you. It really is all about finding your joy one stitch at a time
Hi Karen, I'm not sure if you mentioned it in any of the other stitch with me on diagonal stitching but I curious, I am starting at the top left corner, how do I go on with the next row of diagonal? Do I start from the bottom back up? Or do I start a whole new set of flosses on the second diagonal sections?
Cynthia Vang with the very first diagonal which is only 55 stitches. I carry my needed threads back to the top placing where needed. After that diagonal is finished and from there on i end my threads and start again at the top. I always work top down. HTH

I’ve probably asked you this before (sorry!) or you’ve probably posted the answer before, BUT can you tell me what app(s) you’ve used to save/scan and highlight your charts as you stitch other than Pattern Keeper? I LOVE Pattern Keeper and am using it for my first one only HAED (at the moment! Ha!) but I’m wondering if I can scan charts from my many other WIPs into my tablet rather than using the paper chart or paper working copy. Thanks in advance for your help. Hi Kevin! I used XODO for charts that I scanned and wanted to mark off.. you won’t be able to search but you can mark off your stitches. Did you know that pattern keeper now has the ability for you to use scanned charts. I will say I have not tried it myself but it is my understanding that it can be done.. if you are not a member check out the Stitching with Pattern Keeper group on FB. I am a little confused. In your video all your stitching was done under a horizontal line of stitches. I saw that there was some diagonal stitches already completed just to the bottom right of where you were stitching in the video. It is like you have changed it up in the middle of stitching an area, and jumped to different areas to stitch a different angle. I see many sides, or lines of stitching. I hope you didn't turn your QSnap on its side to stitch ... that would be a NO NO. Am I missing something?
Wil, no worries. I have tried many different stitching techniques on this piece. trying to find what works best for me. all my stitches are crossed the same way. not to worry.. actually considering framing it withe the back open so you can see all the different methods that I used. it surely will tell my stitching journey.
Is HAED the only company that has patterns that diagonal parking method can be used? Does HEAD have back stitching or 3/4 or 1/4 stitches? I have been stitching for years. I have never seen diagonal stitching until recently. I taught myself to cross stitch when i was in the military stationed in Germany. I love it and still learning new things. I love how you pin your threads. I have always used Aida cloth. Think I will graduate to even weave though. Love watching you stitch and thank you for talking us through what you are doing and giving an explanation as to why you do it the way you do. Thanks for the privilege of watching you!
Patty Earnest you can do diagonal stitching on any cross stitch piece. It does not need to be a HAED. People even do it on non full coverage pieces. The process is the same. HAED does not have any fractional stitches. They are all full cross and there is no backstitching. All the detail is done with color. Thank you so much for your kind words. Thanks so much for doing this, Karen. I had never thought about how stitching horizontally from the top down would make it so that your threads hang out of the way. I'll have to try that. If you are working with a color that doesn't have a stitch in the next row, do you end your thread off there or do you park down in the next row where it shows up again? If you do skip to the next row, how far are you willing to carry your threads?
blitstitch thanks for stopping by. Your video was my inspiration and thank you for that. I will park about 10 rows away if that color is not used again within those 10 rows i will end the thread. I will say when you get into a high confetti area is does get a bit tricky to park your threads correctly but i think that would be the case no matter what method you use
Itdepends on how big a jump it is. one or two rows is fine. any more than that i will finish off, or possibly trael through finished stiches to a conenient point.

Since I can’t see your whole chart, are you splitting all the boxes diagonally down the middle starting at the first stitch in the upper left hand corner? Hope this question makes sense! I want to try this and I just want to make sure I’m marking my chart correctly.
Heather P ... yes. I split just as you described. Just watch for the pages that start with only part of a 10x10 block. I like my diagonal lines to be as shown throughout the whole page. Just let me know if you need further help. Thanks for watching
Thank you for your tutorial. I have been having a lot of issues with what I would call "crowding" . I thing this is the solution to my problem. I did have one question: what is the purpose of the different colors your pattern is marked? also when setting up the space on your pattern that you will be working from is there a certain amount of stitches you will be working with on the diagonal? Sherry loves stitching i used one color, usually yellow, to mark my diagonal which is 10 stitches wide. Then when marking off my completed stitches i use a different color every day. That way i can track how many stitches i did each day. As far as your issue of “crowding” what count fabric are you using and how many threads?

Trina Portner the darker lines on the chart designate a 10 x 10 square. The grey lines on the fabric should match the dark lines on the chart. On the fabric the 1st grey line is stitch #1. And the last thread before the next grey line is stitch #10
Great tips and video Karen! I have a question regarding your long experience stitching...what do you do with all your finished work? Do you sell it? I've been stitching a lot lately and already have all my walls covered up and much money invested in this hobby, so I was wondering what others do?
zainescu bianca thank you for your kind words. In my early years I gave away a lot of my stitching as gifts. More recently - the last 20 years- I stitched for myself..to date there are about 40 samplers hanging in my living room and dining room. I had 16 more that were not framed and had them made into a quilt. If you watch my 2nd stitch with me video I talk about my samplers and then there is a slideshow at the end. I don’t sell my things because you would barely get your cost. Was going to put some in a shop that takes handmade items on consignment but pieces I spent months on and many dollars I would barely get $100 for them..not worth it so I had the quilt made. Gabby Ferreira i got mine from Heaven and Earth Designs. 123 Stitch also has it in 14 ct. ABC stitch therapy carries it those are the ones i can think of off the top of my head
Diana Jones I purchased my chart as pdf and save it to Dropbox...then I open GoodReader which I have connected tp Dropbox find the chart and download..when I download I choose the option to sync. Then all my changes are automatically saved.

I really appreciated your showing the difference between waxing and not waxing. I have been contemplating trying wax and I think, with the help of your video, I have finally decided only to wax my ends where I am threading and my thread has begun to fray from multiple treading/unthreadings. I just want to say thank you for this video. I am stitching my first HAED and this stitching technique has helped so much. As I am only on the first page of my piece and only working with two colors of thread, the thought of wrapping my head around parking was daunting. Your way of stitching is so easy and workable. I LOVE the way you do the "diagonal" stitching method. I, like you, seem to like the horizontal stitching the best. I haven't noticed significant lines from stitching in a column, but I have not gotten much done on my first HAED yet, so they could become noticeable as time goes on. But using your technique will be awesome. And I do like the fact that you've minimized the number of threads that are being parked. Now, my only problem is that my current HAED design is in a box in storage. Guess I'll just have to find another chart and start a new one!!!! Thank you so much, Karen.

Hi Karen, Thanks for that I do diagonal stitching only when I have a lot of black background, otherwise doesn't work for me but as you say whatever makes you happy!! But I love the needle threading you did and I tried it and I was amazed it worked ! I also tried parking, did not like the threads everywhere....so I have all my needles pre threaded and that works for me. But I love watching what other stitchers do, you always learn so much. So great first video !

You are an absolute joy to watch and listen to. I finally understand that technique. Can you please help me with a few questions? Do you start with new threads at the top of every diagonal? When you reach the bottom of each page, do you end the thread or park it on to the following page below? How do you continue the diagonal on page 2? How does the diagonal continue? I love the method of 1 row of 10 stitches because I have missed stitches, and the back would get bulky. Thank you for sharing this technique.❤
Hi Jenn. Awesome that my video has helped you. And certainly I can answer your questions..yes i start new at the top of the diagonal. When reaching the bottom of the page I find it easiest to park your threads in the overlap area and then they are ready for when you do the next row of pages. When the top of your diagonal goes onto the second page unless you are going to just go page by page you will be going across 2 pages. So if you use Pattern Keeper it is not an issue cause the pages are together into one big chart. If however you are working from a paper pattern it will be best to tape your pages together. That makes the transition between pages easier. Your other option is when the top of your diagonal reaches the edge if the page just work the diagonal going down the side of the page until you have the page completed. On thing with doing this is you run the risk of page lines. Hope this answers your questions and helps. If not just let me know
@The Needlebugg I finally get it. I'm so grateful for taking the time to explain this method. You're an angel and an absolute joy to watch. So genuine and down to earth. ❤ One more question: if I can. I'm stitching 1 over 1 on 28 count, with one strand. I have adopted the loop start, and it works well, but I have great difficulty trying to tack the end thread. Is it possible if you could do a video on how to tack the thread on 28 count? I find there not enough thread within the fabric to split at times. It's the only issue I have at this point. Bless🙏

I’m working on my first HAED and realize that it would be my only one if I don’t find a better method for myself. I’ve done many cross stitch patterns before but not with so much detail. I’ve been working cross country which always seemed to work for me but is driving me crazy with so much confetti.

Thank you for this. I use a simliar technique and find like you that working top down works best. The only difference in m method is choosing the colour to work first in a 10 stich 'row'. I look to see which colour is on the right hand side of the row. I stitch that as a half cross stitch, leaving gaps as needed, then wotk the next on the right, till all the colours are done in one direction. I then look at the left hand side of the row and work that colour back, then the next to left . i find this works well. i park as you do.

Thanks so much.Jan hicks sent me for you pattern keeper video, however i have 4 of 20 pages of my haed done and find the stitches are terrible in that they aren’t consistent good x’es and the back is a mess. I was stitching x country 20 rows and parking and the back is thick and messy. So yes have entire top finished but technically it’s 1/5 done and not happy.
So, trying to figure a way to keep back semi neat as you say and not get lines..

Thank you for this most informative video. When using the Pako organiser which I also love I would like to know how you prevent your threads from collecting any dust and any lint circulating due to air-conditioning?
Meryl that is part of the reason I gave up using the Pako. I did not like how the threads tangled.short of covering them up all,the time or having some sort of bag to keep them in I don’t know how you would keep them clean and dust free. Hope you find a solution that works for you

Meryl right now I am using floss pages by Flossanthology on Etsy. Each page has 14 channels that you thread the floss into. So it keeps threads separated like the Pako. Easy just to pull 1 strand. And your floss stays clean and tangle free.i did a video on them just a short while ago. I really like them. Just search Flossanthology on etsy
I love using my tablet for my haed. I did change my page view to show pages it horizontally instead of vertical. That way they show it similar to a book and when I zoom in i can actually be on two pages at once which has made my mistakes at the page jumps much less 😁
Hi Karen - I really enjoyed this video! I am not familiar with diagonal stitching, other than watching one other video yesterday which mentioned your name (as well as BlitStitch) so this technique is quite new to me. I’ve never stitched a true “full coverage” piece before, mostly because of my fear of the parking method with the kajillion threads hanging all over the place. Years ago I began a HAED design and gave up rather quickly, also because of the parking method and becoming easily confused and stressed over the threads. THIS method of diagonal stitching really looks easy to pick up, so I’m excited to try it sometime in the near future. Your stitches look so neat and tidy!
I had two questions for you. First, do you start and end your threads in the traditional manner of securing them under some of the previous stitches? I suppose if you are using two strands, you can begin your threads with the “loop method,” but when ending that color do you just secure it under several stitches that were already placed? Or do you just let the loose thread dangle on the back and figure it will be covered eventually by future stitches?
I also wanted to ask what program you use to upload your chart on your iPad or tablet? I’ve seen videos where people highlight their stitches as they go on their tablet, and it seems like it’s so much easier to manage than having all the paper charts and colored pencils/highlighters, etc..
Thanks again for posting the video. I love your philosophy regarding this being a hobby and “fun” and stress-free. I will need to remember your three foot rule next time I make an error! Kevin
Hey Karen, I dont know if you have since deicovered this as its an older video but there is a program called pattern keeper for android devices. It is a fantastic program but unlike most of them it merges the pages and just puts a thicker line between them so you could theoretically stitch over pages if you want in the future.

I started cross stitching very late in life 69 , I am now 71 I love it and I wish I could have found this hobby early in my life as I won't have much stitching time left especially when tackling an haed ... I am going to start purple iris mini after Christmas and this is the question , lots of black so 1over 1 on 20 count adia isn't working for me so I tried 2over 1 and the coverage was good but I know I will struggle as the next row becomes more dense ... have ordered 22 count but then this makes the design large and I will still have to do 2 over 1 and I really wanted to do 1 over 1 if I go smaller count it will make the design too small ... my ideal would be to have a much thicker thread I have anchor as people say it is slightly thicker and that hasn't covered it doing the 1over 1 . I was wondering if it would be ok in a perl cotton 8 or 12 just for the black but then would it look ok with the rest of the floss ? I hope you understand my ramblings :) Diana

Hi. Thanks so much for a great flosstube. Really clear. Two questions. Looks like you are using a roll bar frame for stretching? What size do you use if you have 72 pages? How do you manage if your fabric is large? What do you use for stretching? I suspect you can’t fold a large fabric...
I am using qsnap so i just roll my excess fabric and use strips of fabric with a magnet on each end. That holds the rolled fabric. I place one end on the top of my work and the other end on the underside. Encasing the rolled fabric. My size of fabric is determined by the stitch count of the design and the count fabric o want to use. I hope this helps

My best advice is to do what works best for you. It is ok to stray from the strict diagonal. Especially if there are just a few stitches of the same color close by. Everyone does it a bit differently. Experiment. You will find whst works the best for you. It really is all about finding your joy one stitch at a time
Hi Karen, I'm not sure if you mentioned it in any of the other stitch with me on diagonal stitching but I curious, I am starting at the top left corner, how do I go on with the next row of diagonal? Do I start from the bottom back up? Or do I start a whole new set of flosses on the second diagonal sections?
Cynthia Vang with the very first diagonal which is only 55 stitches. I carry my needed threads back to the top placing where needed. After that diagonal is finished and from there on i end my threads and start again at the top. I always work top down. HTH

Hi Karen! I’ve probably asked you this before (sorry!) or you’ve probably posted the answer before, BUT can you tell me what app(s) you’ve used to save/scan and highlight your charts as you stitch other than Pattern Keeper? I LOVE Pattern Keeper and am using it for my first one only HAED (at the moment! Ha!) but I’m wondering if I can scan charts from my many other WIPs into my tablet rather than using the paper chart or paper working copy. Thanks in advance for your help. Hi Kevin! I used XODO for charts that I scanned and wanted to mark off.. you won’t be able to search but you can mark off your stitches. Did you know that pattern keeper now has the ability for you to use scanned charts. I will say I have not tried it myself but it is my understanding that it can be done.. if you are not a member check out the Stitching with Pattern Keeper group on FB. I am a little confused. In your video all your stitching was done under a horizontal line of stitches. I saw that there was some diagonal stitches already completed just to the bottom right of where you were stitching in the video. It is like you have changed it up in the middle of stitching an area, and jumped to different areas to stitch a different angle. I see many sides, or lines of stitching. I hope you didn't turn your QSnap on its side to stitch ... that would be a NO NO. Am I missing something?
Wil, no worries. I have tried many different stitching techniques on this piece. trying to find what works best for me. all my stitches are crossed the same way. not to worry.. actually considering framing it withe the back open so you can see all the different methods that I used. it surely will tell my stitching journey.
Is HAED the only company that has patterns that diagonal parking method can be used? Does HEAD have back stitching or 3/4 or 1/4 stitches? I have been stitching for years. I have never seen diagonal stitching until recently. I taught myself to cross stitch when i was in the military stationed in Germany. I love it and still learning new things. I love how you pin your threads. I have always used Aida cloth. Think I will graduate to even weave though. Love watching you stitch and thank you for talking us through what you are doing and giving an explanation as to why you do it the way you do. Thanks for the privilege of watching you!
Patty Earnest you can do diagonal stitching on any cross stitch piece. It does not need to be a HAED. People even do it on non full coverage pieces. The process is the same. HAED does not have any fractional stitches. They are all full cross and there is no backstitching. All the detail is done with color. Thank you so much for your kind words. Thanks so much for doing this, Karen. I had never thought about how stitching horizontally from the top down would make it so that your threads hang out of the way. I'll have to try that. If you are working with a color that doesn't have a stitch in the next row, do you end your thread off there or do you park down in the next row where it shows up again? If you do skip to the next row, how far are you willing to carry your threads?
blitstitch thanks for stopping by. Your video was my inspiration and thank you for that. I will park about 10 rows away if that color is not used again within those 10 rows i will end the thread. I will say when you get into a high confetti area is does get a bit tricky to park your threads correctly but i think that would be the case no matter what method you use
Itdepends on how big a jump it is. one or two rows is fine. any more than that i will finish off, or possibly trael through finished stiches to a conenient point.

Since I can’t see your whole chart, are you splitting all the boxes diagonally down the middle starting at the first stitch in the upper left hand corner? Hope this question makes sense! I want to try this and I just want to make sure I’m marking my chart correctly.
Heather P ... yes. I split just as you described. Just watch for the pages that start with only part of a 10x10 block. I like my diagonal lines to be as shown throughout the whole page. Just let me know if you need further help. Thanks for watching

Thank you for your tutorial. I have been having a lot of issues with what I would call "crowding" . I thing this is the solution to my problem. I did have one question: what is the purpose of the different colors your pattern is marked? also when setting up the space on your pattern that you will be working from is there a certain amount of stitches you will be working with on the diagonal? Sherry loves stitching i used one color, usually yellow, to mark my diagonal which is 10 stitches wide. Then when marking off my completed stitches i use a different color every day. That way i can track how many stitches i did each day. As far as your issue of “crowding” what count fabric are you using and how many threads?

How do you know if those are 10 x 10 squares I am a new cross stitch
Trina Portner the darker lines on the chart designate a 10 x 10 square. The grey lines on the fabric should match the dark lines on the chart. On the fabric the 1st grey line is stitch #1. And the last thread before the next grey line is stitch #10

Great tips and video Karen! I have a question regarding your long experience stitching...what do you do with all your finished work? Do you sell it? I've been stitching a lot lately and already have all my walls covered up and much money invested in this hobby, so I was wondering what others do?
zainescu bianca thank you for your kind words. In my early years I gave away a lot of my stitching as gifts. More recently - the last 20 years- I stitched for myself..to date there are about 40 samplers hanging in my living room and dining room. I had 16 more that were not framed and had them made into a quilt. If you watch my 2nd stitch with me video I talk about my samplers and then there is a slideshow at the end. I don’t sell my things because you would barely get your cost. Was going to put some in a shop that takes handmade items on consignment but pieces I spent months on and many dollars I would barely get $100 for them..not worth it so I had the quilt made. Diana Jones I purchased my chart as pdf and save it to Dropbox...then I open GoodReader which I have connected tp Dropbox find the chart and download..when I download I choose the option to sync. Then all my changes are automatically saved.
