- Troy raises his son, Jake, in a secluded cabin in the woods to avoid conflict in the cities. Jake grows up learning how to survive in the forest, but he knows nothing about what's happening outside. This changes when he meets a woman named Henrietta while he's attempting to retrieve medicine for Troy. Jake forms a relationship with Henrietta, but Troy is wary of her because he believes that she will uproot their peaceful life in the woods.

Yeah thats a massive plot fail imo
Without seeing the actual movie and going by the recap, my guess would be that Troy did attempt to clean it and take care of it that day but it probably was much worse than he could handle without proper medication. The stuff they had on hand wasn't working since they were expired and the wound got infected so that's when he had Jake make that run to the clinic because that was their only option.
That's exactly what a person who describes themselves as a 'survival expert' would do.
So they nailed it.

I loved the open ending, really keeps you imagining what his new life is, but the sheer fact he managed to go through so much during the rest of the movie already was enough for us to know that, no matter what comes next, he's gonna be alright, with or without his parents. He doesnt need a "home", because he's not alone anymore. He got a whole world around him now.

I've never heard of or seen this post apocalyptic drama starring Alicia Silverstone. A man living in a post apocalyptic wilderness with his naive and inexperienced son sets out to kill a mysterious beautiful young woman whom had sex with his son.
There's the hitch. It's not a post-apocalyse movie. It feels like one because that's what Jake has been told by this father Troy. Henrietta going to the police is meant to show that to the audience.

man this movie had a good premise but it was such a disappointment. and i was so sure Alicia Silverstone was gonna turn out to be his mom that the sex scene was just one giant cringe of horror for me. i can't have been the only one.

@@nerychristian I honestly think they had originally planned it that way but backed away because it was too Oldboy/gross. I mean think how much more sense it would've made! The crazy dad had some sort of fight with the mom, took the boy away, and then warned him against going back specifically because he knew the boy's mother lived nearby. And why else have the rando woman happen to be exactly old enough to be his mom if you're not gonna use that twist? Plus, why would she be so nice to a total crazy rando unless she suspected he was her son? Hell they were even both blond. Finally, there's even that big speech he gives about what he thinks his mom is like -- and she even thanks him for it!!! It just feels like a last-minute rewrite in response to bad focus group feedback.
