Hi there @@nannertime any chance you might be able to do a video on Fox's ARMA 3 Server Tool Extended Rewrite (FASTER), and how to use it, to host a private game with several mods, please?
Dude, I want to personally genuinely thank you for this video. The VLan (using ZeroTier) worked for both my girlfriend and I. We were working on making short missions using the editor and stuff but for some reason we could no longer connect to one another no matter what methods we used. we also had 3 major mods (apex, sog, western sahara) so it sucked that we couldn't play with one another for months!
You did a good job on this video explaining how port forwarding works. However there is one part where I can foresee the hoster getting problems in the long run. When they manually fixed their IP settings in Windows network settings it does not change the router's behavior in regards to that IP address. The router still considers it has ownership of that address in the range it manages and it can assign that address to another computer/phone/whatever later after the lease times out. And that creates an address conflict in the LAN network. It's best to leave that on dynamic, unless you can be sure you can set an IP address that is outside the range governed by the DHCP server in the router. Better would be to go into the router configuration pages and find "DHCP Address reservation". Or maybe it is named differently where you assign a specific IP address to a Physical/MAC-address of the network adapter of your computer. The MAC address is shown as a sequence of 12 numbers and letters (hexadecimal; 0-9-a-f) like the Physical address in the IPCONFIG output. Once this reservation exists your router will always (barring router factory resets of course) assign this IP address to that computer when it renews the DHCP lease or when joining the network. MAC/Physical address registration under Wifi security is something different though. It just allows those particular devices to join the wireless network. It has nothing to do with an IP-address. Look further in other menus if you think that this is the place for IP reservations.
Oooo thanks for the feedback! I did not think about this potential issue. I actually have never heard anyone mention this problem. I will keep it in mind. Would you happen if another device takes the 192.168.2.150 address and the original client that has the static IP address set to 192.168.2.150 in Windows attempts to connect to the same network?
So, to fix this potential issue you would just need to reserve the IP? My router utility has a simple function where you can select a device in the network and click a single button to reserve the IP. I do still see the normal DHCP page where you can reserve a IPv4 to a specific MAC address.
@@nannertime I dunno some other technical stuff might be good. Like how to get the best performance/looks ratio out of your arma 3. Or something like that, since arma doesnt run that well sometimes.
Having a clear and coherent guide was the goal! I got sick of having to watch 4 separate low quality, outdated videos just play private games with friends.
Hey, I recognize some of those clips... PVT Pile's first mission! Great video dude, very informitive. Keep 'em coming and don't deploy the tow ropes! 🔫
This video is missing a very important part! It is imperative that you have a static IP plan from your ISP. If not you have a dynamic IP, meaning your IP will change randomly. After you have set a static ip on your computer you can go to a website that shows you your IP and you can see if it is static or dynamic. Hope this helps some confused friends looking through new comments on a 1 year old internet tutorial.
It really is not easy. There are many variables that some are set without knowing and then everyone has a different ISP and a different router, so I can't have a straight forward step by step tutorial on it.
What else would you like to know about Arma 3? Ask a question, and I will do my best to answer! Mod videos are definitely on it's way! Leave a 🔫 if you found this video helpful.
You know what? I just faced this problem yesterday. I've tried to host a game, and my friend can't see my game. Try to use direct connect, still not happening. I already have zerotier, but idk that I can use it for Arma 3. Glad your video just appear on my youtube homepage.
If you cant find your friend's server using zerotier, try this, go to adapter options in the internet settings and click zerotier > properties > internet protocol ipv4 > properties > advanced > below in that window there should be a check box with a box with a number in it, uncheck that box, and put number 5 in the box next to it, click OK and save the changes and try to find your buddies server
@@nannertime haha thnx bro, my friends and i always struggled with port forwarding, and mostly relied on VLAN using hamachi at first which wasn't the best then i stumbled upon zerotier and started using it, glad i could help!
im not sure if im the only one getting this issue but all my friends and I no matter whos hosting using any of these methods, we get this issue where probably 90 percent of the time when trying to join we can see eachothers server in the list but when we actually connect it just immediately returns us back to the server list, the host can see in the chat "connecting, connected, disconnected" over and over, does any one else get this issue and know how to fix it?
Yes. Usually, I just have my friends keep trying for another 5 minutes and it will work. Something is loading in the background that takes Arma a minute to upload from the client to the server.
Port Forward, will work only if you have a PUBLIC ip address. If you have only static ip, not public, it wil not work. I have this experience with that.
My 3 friends are playing on a server, but I can't see it. I'm the only one who can't join. They all can join a server I host without issue. What do I do?
That's a strange situation. It's hard to tell without more details. If you can't see that one specific server, that means your ISP is blocking you from accessing that server or the server is blocking you. If you and your friends are in different countries or use different ISPs then that could be it. Very strange situation. If they are in a private server with friends only and the host blocked you then that could be the problem too. You could try directly connecting via IP.
Hey dude, hope you still see this, I need to fill in (for forwarding a port) Service port, IP Address, internal port, protocol (wich is UDP), Satus (wich is enabled) and common service port. What do i need to fill out there?
1. Follow the rules I listed in the video. 2. Check the local IP address of your server and cobfirm that it matches the IP address you port forwarded. 3. Confirm Arma 3 is allowed inbound and outbound through your firewall.
Server isn't showing up for my buddies under VLAN. None of them are running VPNs and im not sure how to make sure Arma has access through my firewall and such like I saw you state in a different comment.
Look up how to allow games or programs through the windows firewall :) If it still doesn't work, look up if you can allow it through your router's firewall.
Wheb I try UPnP, it tells me "port forwarding failed" even though I've already set up port forwarding for 2302 till 2306 in my router and my firewall inbound and outbound rules. Any clue what could be going on?
Turn off UPnP if you opened your ports. You need to enable UPnP on your router and close the ports if youre going to use UPnP. Also, so not use a VPN. Of youre using a satelite or cell service 5g for internet, then it wont work period. Check router firewall AND PC firewall
I have a very slow internet connection. Can I use the VLAN method just by connecting two PCs in the same room with a lan cable? Or just by connecting two PCs via lan cables to the same router, but without connecting the router to the internet?
I'm stuck... I can't fix it for an entire day. I can host, but when friend tries do join nothing happens, no error no connecting nothing as is "join" means back, i've tried upnp, port forwarding, nothing works. Nothing is happening, i'm losing my mind.
That means you port forwarded correctly. Next, I would allow Arma 3 through the firewall. Also, let the server sit on for several minutes and have your friend try again. Also, you need to select a mission and get into the lobby.
Am I missing something? I've got a server up and ready but my friend can't seem to find it in LAN :/ (using the VLAN way w Zerotier, we've exhausted all other options)
Make sure NOBODY is using a VPN Make sure you allowed Arma 3 through PC firewall and router firewall Check if you actually have IPv4. If youre router doesnt actually have IPv4, then you CANNOT host.
Hey, I wanted to set up an ARMA 3 server with strangers. Using the port forward method currently and I wanted to know if it was safe? Especially with the part where I have to show my IPv4 address.
If I were to host to strangers, I would make sure that nothing that needs protected is on the same network as the host PC. And the Host PC should also have nothing valuable on it either.
Why tf is it such a headache to setup a server like that? Why don't they do it like in literally any other game where all you have to do is click "host" done
Hey, i like your video a lot. But my friend is having an issue. He followed all your instructions for setting up the port forwarding and it worked for a week or so. Now its not working, and hes telling me his router isnt displaying his desktops ip anymore? Idk wtf happened do you have any solutions?

Using VLAN option: if I create the network on ZeroTier, and have 2 friends join it. Can anyone host the server on Arma using the network I created? Or does the one who made the network on ZeroTier have to be the one hosting in Arma?
In my router control panel it only shows "Assignment Name, External Port, Internal Port, Protocol" what number do I put for external , and which do I put for internal?
I went on the router and UPnP is enabled, as well as the port with UDP enabled and opening 2302-2306 ports. My computer also has all of the addresses put into the control panel. I also made sure that Arma 3 is allowed through firewall. I even made sure that UPnP was not checked off when hosting server. Despite all this, my friends cannot find the server Edit: When opening that port on the router, the only options I had were: External Port Internal Port UDP/TCP/Both There was nowhere that I could paste an IP, however it did show the matching IP address to the one on my computer
That's frustrating 1. Have everyone turn off any VPNs 2. Confirm your friends can see your game status on Steam. 3. Confirm you do not use a mobile phone company for internet service (eg Verizon, T-Mobile) Please explain what you mean by the addresses in the control panel.
@@nannertime In the video we were instructed to paste the IPv4 address, Subnet Mask, Default gateway, and DNS server addresses into the properties on our internet in the control panel of computer
@@nannertime Oh crap they just said they see it, I’m not sure what happened but I guess it just took a while for it to register. I also made adjustments to the router settings by making it both UDP and TCP, so maybe that did it
ZeroTier recently updated their software after this video, so you have to follow their documentation without the Control Panel Hosting won't work if any of the following are true: 1. You're on a VPN 2. Your router isn't using a true IPv4 3. You use a 5G ISP like TMobile or Verizon 4. Arma isn't allowed through your firewall on PC or router.

For real. Luckily, it should be a thing of the past for Reforger and Arma 4.
In my router control panel it only shows "Assignment Name, External Port, Internal Port, Protocol" what number do I put for external , and which do I put for internal?
Each router is different. You can find intstructions for your router at portforward.com
Dose the second method work for Ethernet too?
Yes it does
I went on the router and UPnP is enabled, as well as the port with UDP enabled and opening 2302-2306 ports. My computer also has all of the addresses put into the control panel. I also made sure that Arma 3 is allowed through firewall. I even made sure that UPnP was not checked off when hosting server. Despite all this, my friends cannot find the server
Edit: When opening that port on the router, the only options I had were:
External Port
Internal Port
UDP/TCP/Both
There was nowhere that I could paste an IP, however it did show the matching IP address to the one on my computer
That's frustrating
1. Have everyone turn off any VPNs
2. Confirm your friends can see your game status on Steam.
3. Confirm you do not use a mobile phone company for internet service (eg Verizon, T-Mobile)
Please explain what you mean by the addresses in the control panel.
I also made adjustments to the router settings by making it both UDP and TCP, so maybe that did it
Wooo! Im glad it worked. Have fun!
@@nannertime Thanks! Also I appreciate the video, it seemed to fix most problems I had
There isnt a control pannel at my zeropoint an it doesnt workand the other things dont work
ZeroTier recently updated their software after this video, so you have to follow their documentation without the Control Panel
Hosting won't work if any of the following are true:
1. You're on a VPN
2. Your router isn't using a true IPv4
3. You use a 5G ISP like TMobile or Verizon
4. Arma isn't allowed through your firewall on PC or router.
Great vid but my router is Ipv6 not Ipv4 so i cant host a server but still helped!
Noooo! Time to get a new router 🤟
yoo bro i have upnp on my router but still dosent work
Enable it. Also allow Arma 3 through your PC firewall and your router firewall.
Turn off any vpns
when i used the vlan method my game was stuck on a loading screen
Sounds like a problem with the firewall or mission
That last one zerotier, me and my friend already download and me create newort and join network but in the game my friend can't find server, help😢
alow zerotier and arma through your firewalls
@@nannertime so I need to shut down firewall?
